As long as Williams stays healthy, it's hard for me to see him doing any worse than what Geno Smith did last year, who averaged 241 yds per game, had 20 TDs and 9 INTs. That feels like the floor for Williams. Taking some other recent QBs into account, like Stroud and Love, this seems like Williams most likely ranges for various stats:

    Completions: [LOW 310 | AVG 338 | HIGH 375]
    Attempts: [LOW 490 | AVG 526 | HIGH 580]
    Comp%: [ LOW 62.5% | AVG 64.3% | HIGH 65.2%]
    Yards: [LOW 3620 | AVG 3964 | HIGH 4284]
    TD: [LOW 20 | AVG 25 | HIGH 32]
    INT: [LOW 5 | AVG 8 | HIGH 12]

So the high probable numbers would be 338-526, 64.3%, 3,964 yds, 25 TD, 8 INT

If Williams hit that number of passing yards, it would be the 6th best all-time for a rookie QB. 25 TDs would be 5th, only 8 INTs would be 5th best, and 64.3% would be 6th. So hit mean set of numbers put him between 5th and 6th all-time for a rookie. With the upgraded supporting cast, I think he exceeds those numbers in every category. I think he falls in between the average numbers and high numbers for al the stats.

Vegas has him at like 3600 yard's or something as his over under.  I also think if you are saying those are the high probability yet those are 6th best all-time that probably says that isn't "High Probability".  Do I think he is capable, certainly, I also think there is a large number of really talented #1 overall picks who had their fair share of struggles in their first year, as that adjustment takes time.

I'm 100% on board with this and it's possible Poles had an agreement with him to re-visit talks when he was healthier.  (i.e.don't go anywhere without talking to us).    There's no doubt Williams would prefer a longer term deal and most teams likely wanted to give him a 1yr deal or at least less guaranteed money.   Maybe this is why he bypassed the center position in the draft.  He kept enough cap space to make a deal like this.

Plus I think if you wait until after the draft the signing(s) don't count to the comp pick formula, so I presume there is a wave of free agency we will see take off once the comp impacts are gone.  My guess is also the more time you can wait on Connor the better cause you have a better idea of his general health/recovery from the injury.

In looking at the last game, what makes anyone think we'll have a top five defense?  I see top half and but not top five.

I agree - I think people are overating a strong finish. The dline has Sweat who came out on fire - but it is still on the mediocre side.  DB's look good but are young so can take a step back vs. forward and we literally played so few quality QB's all year. Do I think the D is solid - sure, but this is not a top 5 D, I would argue it might be a Top 10 D.

Note: I am very happy with direction of the team - but I think we have a lot of overhyping potentially going on here. Just like with the team won 7 games but its now destined for 11. We had some win's against really really bad teams and yes we had some tough losses but at same time we benefited from playing teams with hurt QB's, etc (as did teams with us).

  4. If they go all offense - I’ll throw out Tennessee running back (Wrigth), his USC teammate (Rice), or Van Pratt as my picks.

If they go defense - I’m hoping the Oregon dlinemen is still on the board.

I expect this too, but doubtful it will be a blue chip player, at least until the trade deadline in the middle of the season

I think they are going to have to live with that this year and than next offseason they can address it - whether via free agency, the draft or both. Back to your point - they are focused on building a culture and continuing to develop roster while also putting Caleb in a great spot to develop. I think if all goes right they can make a run at 10 games - but let’s get it right and than add another wave of talent next year (maybe even a trade acquisition).

Allen has never been known for elite speed. Instead, he gains separation by running precise routes. That is why many believe, even at the age of 32, he has many productive years left before retiring. He seems to be a perfect mentor for Rome O.

Well said and I agree - we have two really good vets and both hopefully will help Rome (and Scott) and heck maybe even Velus (cause Velus physical skills are legitimately good).

no i understood you. I have seen dozens of examples where he read the defense, made a quick decision and threw the ball like Bagent did in rhythm.

He also has that fast throwing motion, but yes he makes fast decisions successfully a LOT of time. Ive seen at least 50 examples over maybe 3 or 4 games of him doing it. It is in his skill set. He held the ball much longer on other plays where WRs werent open, or he was big play hunting. He never won a game in which he put up fewer than 30 points at USC (last year or both not sure), so obviously they had no defense and he was doing his Brett Favre impression.

Oh an to the protection, he has this Aaron Rodgers thing hwere when a defender breaks through the line, he circles around to redirect the defender back to the blocker he beat. It's pretty cool to watch, and youre like "he looks like Rodgers there"

So often he did have a lot of time to throw by his own making.

Rodgers is a really good comp.

Poles has a plan if he doesn't get help in the DL, he will bring in a vet. There will be a round of cuts to choose from. Do not underestimate players on the team getting better. I was curious when he said players are going to have a hard time making this roster. To me that means he likes some backups we aren't thinking about.

I agree - I see him getting another dline or two on one year deals - whether 2nd wave of free agency or post draft cut.

exactly right - this draft and next years draft are both aiming at the 2025 season, one where our stud QB isnt a rookie, and where we can fill the final missing pieces including another pass rusher.

The window for us to seriously contend for a superbowl opens in 2025, although I wouldnt put a ceiling on what this team is capable of this year either. But its a PLAN for 2025.

This is well said - I would be shocked if they like Van Pratt if they move up - maybe Borom and our 4th to move up a few or a next year 5th or 6th to move up 5-10 spots.

  10. This is a good pick in terms of BPA. Raw upside but needs some development. I like what they are doing and expect next year we will see a few more defensive selections. I wonder if they go db / safety in round 4 or maybe stick with them and take an interior / center prospect.

yeah he doesnt feel like that at all.

I think the negative narratives on high ranking players were really in play this year by teams hoping to create situations where players slide to them.

For example, Williams seems to be nothing like the sullen, selfish player he was painted to be the last couple of months.

I think Odunze is a really really good and grounded dude. He is going to work hard, etc.  He has good 40 speed and shown a ton of ability to make tight catches and use his body. It really comes down to me - will those strength's overcome his lack of quickness - or is he quick enough to get enough seperation where he can dominate in the pro's or with the margin's shrinking and the hits better does it kind of negate some of his strength's and he ends up more "okay". Barring injury I think no matter what he will be a solid 750-900 yard guy...the question is can he be a 1300 yard type of receiver.

There was no bad choice, this tells me , they will keep Allen for only the one year and use that money somewhere else. Poles has to have a plan for an edge rusher. Maybe someone he likes will be available at 75.

They can get a comp pick if Allen leaves.

I felt the trade back here was good but if they have Odunze rated that highly I’m good with it.  Makes Keenan a one year rental unless he wants to stick around on a team friendly deal.  I could see him go right back to LA for that.

I was good with a trade back but can’t complain. I think my first prediction months ago was Caleb and Rome. I’m fired up.

A week or two ago I asked why Poles hasn't declared Caleb will be the first pick in the draft?  This is now the worst kept secret in the NFL especialy after watching his pre-draft press conference when he was talking about Caleb in glowing terms.  After reflecting on that a bit I now believe he's just doing this to give that moment to Caleb.  Caleb has been very clear this has been one of his goals for a long time.  IMO that's a class move by Poles not to steal the spotlight and that moment from him by making the announcement early.

I also think the NFL prefers teams to wait - even though technically the  Bears could announce they are selecting him and actually sign him to a contract before the draft.

I just screenshot this off the TV.  It supports the OL principle that we like.  Top need, center 92% success rate.  Sign me up for a trade down and Graham Barton for the win!

Is the above like the last X years worth of 1RP and who hit vs. who didn't by position?

  16. NFL is investigating the FA signings of Saquon and Cousins per shefty. Expecting loss of draft picks - potentially more severe for Falcons vs. Eagles.  Some swirling reports that maybe the Giants/Vikings actually pick up the lost picks.

Would Falcons lose their 1st rounder (or will it be a lesser pick or a future pick) and beyond that - will Vikings potentially get that pick.  Could have major implications on Bears positioning - especially if NFL set a tone and took away #8 pick (I would be shocked - I'm expecting something like a 2nd or 3rd rounder if they wanted to come down hard).

No. The Bears can go without a 1st round WR with other holes to fill and a draft deep in WRs.

Its the thing that gets me - I do like the top 3 wideouts - but I also think there is a good chance one of the other talented wideouts is as good if not better. Now odds are solid that the other 3 have lower floors, etc.  But you can find premiere wideouts later in 1st round and into 2nd and 3rd round, especially if you pair them with a good QB.  I don't feel the same way with stud LT's....I feel like 9 times out of 10, a stud LT was a Top 10 / 15 pick.

ALt has routinely slipped to 9 or 10 in simulations. He could be a realistic target without a trade up.

I don't think I've seen an NFL mock draft by anyone that is reputable with Alt sitting there when the Bears select at 9.  Most everyone in the world has him either going to Chargers or Titans. Doesn't mean it won't happen and just cause reporter(s) say it doesn't make it true.  Bears could draft a DB at 9 for all I know - but given what their depth chart needs are, talent on the board, etc, but common logic has it narrowed down to oline, wideout, dline.
