This is an approach we are not used to. I feel like Poles is hedging his bets with Fields this year. He has created a ton of roster flexibility and can lock up players next year that are deserving while still adding talent from other teams. If for some reason Fields is not the answer at QB, the team is young enough that they could bring another young QB in next year and roster age would not be an issue. This roster may not have a high ceiling (unless Fields balls out), but it has a pretty high floor.

He scored 2 TDs against the Bears last year on a total of 5 receptions on the season. In Week 17, he had 3-103, 1 TD against the Bears.

If the Bears can neutralize Bosa, chip, screen game, run at him, bootleg and rollouts away from him, I think the offense can score. On defense, it is stopping the run and stopping Deebo. I would almost have Johnson follow Deebo or at least when he is on the outside, then Gordon when he is in the slot. I think they will attack Vildor if he is starting.

There were 6 teams worse than the Bears last year. None of those teams did anything that would make me believe they would leapfrog the Bears. Then you have Seattle, Atlanta, and Washington all with one more win than the Bears. I could easily see the Bears better than all 3. Then you have an 8-9 Cleveland team w/o a QB and Minnesota both with 8 wins. I could see the Bears somewhere in the mix with those two teams between 7-9 wins.

It makes no sense to trade a starting caliber RG on his 2nd year of a rookie deal. The media are like sharks, blood in the water. They all want to get the scoop or be the one that is quoted asking a specific question or a snarky question. What a way to live. They need to move on from asking Jenkins about being traded. For Fields, he has 3 things against him, Ohio St QB, Bears QB, and Black QB. That is a lot of stigmas to overcome. Everything he does wrong will be amplified and anything he does right will be lessened (it's only preseason, the WRs ran good routes, anyone can make that throw). He has 10x the critics than he does in backers. The only way to stop the noise now is to ball out.
