  1. Wouldn't it be kind of odd if Lovie had Peppers come with him on a recruiting trip and it didn't involve Mario Williams? I'm sure the Jackson interest is real but what is Julius doing in Texas with Lovie if he's not trying to convince Mario Williams to sign with us?
  2. Mario Williams is the best player in free agency, similar to when Peppers hit the market a few seasons ago. It's him over anyone else. I just looked at his wikipedia page and was blown away when I saw that he has a 40 1/2 inch vertical at 6'7 283! That is the very definition of a freak. You put two freak athletes together on different sides of the line and you have a dominant defense. Vincent Jackson concerns me because of his injury history and his history off the field. Not known as a guy that's a competitor. He wants his money. I think there is a huge bust factor with him personally. He's already 29 going on 30.
  3. Just listened to Hub on the score and said he was the surprise cut of the offseason. I know nothing about him but supposedly he's pretty good at football.
  4. I've been reading that supposedly Mario Williams isn't all about the money and might even accept a lesser type of deal so the Bears can sign another guy like Vincent Jackson to go with him. The rumor is that Lovie and Peppers are flying to Texas to speak with both of them. How insane would this be?
  5. I don't think Moon Mullins track record has been very good on these sorta things. I'll believe it when it gets reported on Sports Center. Mario Williams on this team with Peppers = Top 3 defense in NFL, easily. Only problem with Williams is he will take up most of your remaining cap space. Then it'll be a guy like Meachem or Eddie Royal to finish free agency. Vincent Jackson or Colston give you room to possibly sign another impactful free agent like Ben Grubbs. If it were up to me, I'm going for the biggest bang for your buck, Mario Williams and Eddie Royal.
  6. I would hate to have to root for a guy like Finnegan..
  7. Somewhere, Ditka is smiling.
  8. Awesome. I can dig Kameron Wimbley. He's a baller. I'm honestly not sure who I would favor between Colston and Jackson. Both players have their flaws. I myself would rather have Colston but I'm not 100% on that.
  9. Seems like he might be the backup plan if Michael Floyd isn't there. I like it.
  10. Signing Mario Williams would instantly give us the best DE tandem in the league since Freeney and Mathis in their primes, but probably better. I can't imagine a quarterback that's going to enjoy tryiing to throw over two 6'8 athletic freaks on each side of the line. It's a no brainer if you ask me. You go all out for Williams, if he signs elsewhere it better not because it's for more money.
  11. Did Bowe not get the tag yet? I believe tomorrow is the last day you can place a franchise tag on somebody so we'll know by tomorrow. I suspect it will be down to Jackson and Colston though.
  12. I'm sure this isn't the only team in the league that's doing this stuff. I'd bet money that Detroit probably has some sort of bounty program going on behind the scenes.
  13. That's insane. I'd make Mario Williams and Carl Nicks my first two targets and see if we can sign one of them. If it doesn't work out then I'd go to Jackson and Colston. If none of those options work, I think our offseason failed.
  14. But what really gets me, is that these same players that were purposely injuring their opponents were probably the same guys that were involved in prayer circles while a player was getting carted off the field. And if I remember correctly, the Saints were the ones that started the whole solidarity thing two seasons ago with the Vikings when the league was entering its final year of the CBA. What a bunch of Con Artists..
  15. There were whispers out recently (Heard it on the radio) that Goodell might try something creative and strip New Orlean's franchise tag for the year, thus making Drew Brees an unrestricted FA. Either way, I don't think Greg Williams is going to be coaching any time soon and the Saints will be losing something costly, possibly the forfeit of draft picks or no franchise tag for the season among a hefty fine.
  16. What a joke. That explains the hits on Cutler and Earl Bennett back in week 2 when they were blitzing all over. I can't believe how anyone on that staff could go along with trying to get their guys to send their opponents off in a cart and then pay them for it. Sean Peyton, I've lost all respect for you. I wonder what Goodell is going to do. You have to think there is going to be a loss of draft picks. A huge fine is not enough and won't get teams to stop doing this. I can't say that I'm surprised by this though. The Saints have been notoriously dirty ever since Greg Williams was their coordinator. They need to investigate Detroit now..
  17. Good guy, Terrible football player.
  18. It's not an ideal situation. The WR position is almost the polar opposite of RB. It's awfully tough for rookie WR's to come in and make an impact immediately. There is a learning curve in most cases. Adding a veteran FA WR to go along with a young rookie is the best thing the Bears could do. If they were to add 2 WR's in back to back rounds, it would mean that they either struck out in free agency or they signed one of the big fish that they weren't expected to get (Williams, Nicks). The infusion of young talent at that position would be exciting for Cutler in the offense, so in that sense I wouldn't be against it, but if none of those guys turn out, then you're in a world of hurt. That's why a vet is so important. And not just any vet, I'm talking about one that can still play.
  19. Usually that is the case with the combine. There's always a guy that comes into the combine every year that blows his competition out of the water with his 40 time and or bench press reps. However if you were in a vacuum and had to pick players, you'd probably be more enticed to get the guy that bench presses 30+ times for his position as opposed to a guy that's only putting it up 18-19 times. Workouts are very tricky but I don't think they are over rated. I think it says more about a guy that's obviously not putting the time in the weight room as opposed to a guy that does.
  20. I think Royal should be included in any free agency scenario, just as a Cutler present. He'll come cheap and has experience on special teams, in case Hester was to go down at any point. I like Colston but the one thing I worry about with him is how much of a product of the system was he? He was a 7th round draft pick that came into the perfect situation where he got to play all of his home games in a dome and an offense that was very pass friendly. Vincent Jackson scares me a little bit as well. He's 29 and has an injury history as well as a history of not trying, or being lazy. Personally, my plan would be to take a possession guy in Colston and develop a young speedy receiver in the draft to be your future #1. I'd make Floyd an exception if he somehow fell to us but otherwise Stephen Hill and Kendall Wright are the two guys I'd have as my backup plans going in to this years draft. Hill's status is tricky because he's probably not good enough to be picked at 19 but will he be there by the time the Bears second round pick comes up?
  21. There was a report today that the Saints are still far apart on getting Brees to sign a long term contract. They will place the franchise tag on him if no deal can be reached by Monday. Could mean Carl Nicks gets thrown into the mix here unless the Saints are ready to fork over a fortune for their All-Pro guard.
  22. His stock is going to fall off the map. That's pretty embarrassing for a lineman.
  23. I think Hill is now probably a shoe in for the 2nd round at least, given his combine results. I don't see too many teams passing on him once it gets into the middle of the 2nd round but we'll see.
  24. Reggie Wayne is too old for me. If were going to go with someone past his prime I'd rather have Randy Moss. I'd go after a Vincent Jackson or Marcus Colston and then take a WR in the 1st or 2nd round. If a guy like Michael Floyd isn't available, Stephen Hill and Kendall Wright are two guys that I've taken a liking to. Hill's got great character and very well articulated from what I've seen in some of his interviews. He caught every ball when he was going through the gauntlet and his 4.3 speed is pretty scary for a man that's 6'4. Only question with him is can he become a focal point in an offense? He didn't get many attempts at Georgia Tech with their option offense but he averaged 29 yards/catch.
