This is a perfect representation of a change that worked extremely well and brought Illinois into the modern world. If the Bears ever made a change, I would hope they do something similar.
-
Free agency will dictate which route the Bears choose to go early in the draft. If we end up with a Dwayne Bowe I have no problems going a different position but if not, WR is the first to come off my pecking list.

You obviously didn't even read what I wrote if that's what you think.

I don't think a press conference is particularly that important but what we heard (or what little we heard since he didn't actually say anything) I was not impressed. He beat around every question, kept using the same words over and over again, even made up the word "orientated", and I didn't like how he didn't really take ownership of being the man in charge. Kept deflecting that towards "working together as a team" instead of showing that leadership and letting it be known that he's the guy that's making the decision. It's just a gripe. As long as he drafts well and gets players in free agency, I'm good.

Well Floyd, no brainer. The feeling I get from this draft, in what is relatively light on offensive lineman talent, is that some of these guys that are projected to go mid-late first are really only there by default. Granted some seem to look like bonafide players, however I don't believe Adams is one of them. You could trade down to get these guys if that was your plan.

I suggest you take your own advice then.

Not really. But thanks for your input.

Oh god. That press conference was a disaster. I feel like I know less about the hire than I did initially. Did he actually say anything with substance to it?

http://www.chicagobears.com/tradition/uniform.asp Going back to even the 1950's the jerseys really haven't changed much at all. The 1960's jersey looks almost identical to the ones they are wearing now. I'd like to see them change the design pattern and incorporate more white into the navy uniforms. Similar to what the Minnesota Vikings did with their jersey change a few years back.

It's good he got this guy outta there and it's good to see it looks like he's going to bring in his own scouting staff asap.

The one thing you can't do in the draft is miss more times than you hit with 1st and 2nd round picks. Jerry was very good at that. He was also notorious for drafting players with medical reports that gave a guy a red flag. Guys like Gabe Carimi and his bad knees, Chris Williams and his back issues, I believe Tommie Harris had some injury concerns going into the draft, Dusty Dvvorececk or whatever his name was, he had red flags in not only his injury history but alcohol was an issue. He also was a guy that drafted based on what a players floor was as opposed to what his potential was. He liked guys with weight room strength instead of actual production on the field. That's fine and all, but you can't do that and then not actually get any good players out of it. Guys like Jaron Gilbert, Stephen Paea, Dan Bazuin come to mind.

They might have to franchise Brees. From what's been said, it sounds like that's the route it might end up going which would be a big plus for us. Although I'm pretty sure Nicks will just re-sign with the Saints once Brees is franchised.

He was better at center this year than he was at guard the last few years. My big board would be something along the lines of 1- Michael Floyd 2- Kendall Wright 3- Alshon Jeffery 4- Dre Kirkpatrick 5- Whitney Mercilus I really like Courtney Upshaw but I fear he will be long gone before the Bears make their pick.

The Bears jerseys have been the same for about a half century now. I'd like to see them make a few changes, take the stupid 3 stripes thing away and modernize things a bit. I follow Illini football and they had the same jerseys for a long time before they made a change during the Zook era. Now they are one of the best looking jerseys in college football. The Bears should do the same in my opinion.

I seriously hope that we get new jerseys next year because of this. Lets bring ourselves into the modern era a little bit.

Wish him luck. Draft Floyd and I'll be a happy man

Second interview with Emery today, correct?
Bears4Ever_34 replied to Chitownhustla's topic in Bearstalk
Not really. Emery's qualifications certainly appeal more to me than Jason Licht who, hasn't even been in a draft room. I know one report has contradicted that since but there's been the overriding sense that I get from the people I've heard talk and reports I've seen is that he hasn't been all that "hands on" with the draft that other candidates have been (Raye, and Ross). If the Bears continue doing what they've always done, Emery will be the hire because he's friends with Ted and has worked here before. -
This could be more leverage than anything from Johnson's side. I wouldn't mind him if he was sort of a last option. I prefer Bowe, Jackson, Colston, and Finley over him.

Neither is a guy that's going to blow you away. At this point, I don't really even care because I don't know either guy. Just draft well. Emery is most likely going to get the job because he's familiar with the Bears already. I'm not even sure why Licht is being interviewed again. -
I like what I hear.
-
I'd have to know exactly who's available and who isn't by the time we picked but I value Kendall Wright very high if Floyd is off the draft board. Jeffery and Wright is a toss up to me.
-
How are we doing this without a GM? Is Ruskell leading this?
-
Emery will most likely get the job because he's been with the Bears before and has worked with Tim Ruskell back in Atlanta. Ted Phillips objective is to save as many jobs as he can including himself. Emery would be the safe, easy hire that the Bears have become synonymous with for a number of years. But were also not really hiring a GM. We're hiring a player personnel director. A real GM gets to hire and fire his own coaches and actually has "real" power.

Bears given permission to speak to Jason Licht Again
Bears4Ever_34 replied to GakMan23's topic in Bearstalk
I'm not in on the interviews but just from an outsiders view, from what I've heard is that this Licht guy has never been in a draft room. He's never run a draft like others have (Ross and Raye) and I don't know about Emery. What possible reason would you have to give him a 2nd interview if your trying to hire a guy to draft well. How much longer could an interview go on for if one of the first questions asked was, "So.. Have you ever been in a draft room?" What else is there left to answer?
