Roquan Smith

Featured Replies

‘Borrowed’ this story on another site I saw about Roquan Smith.  Essentially says of all the players last year who got at least 100 tackles, Roquan “only missed 3.8% of his tackles”.  Putting him in the “top three” of the defenders last year.  This after he only played 12 games too.  Pretty freaking amazing!

He is a future star. Heck hes a star right now, and we may just not fully realize it yet.

I still wish I knew what happened last year, but with all luck, we will never know or hear of it again.

There was some off the wall story I caught that mentioned Roquan was running around with some porn star and congregating with a large group while the state he was in was in ‘full lockdown’. Not necessarily a disciplinary issue as it is an ‘image’ issue that the Bears might not be too keen on.

While looking for the above story I re-read another article covering his contract negotiations when he was a rookie and why he was holding out.  There was a piece in that had to do with ‘off field conduct’ not affecting the contract. His agents at the time insisted it wasn’t specific to Smith but instead wanting to avoid a precedent for other players.

I’m with you and hope whatever happened last year was more about his youthful indiscretions than anything.

well I dont need my players to be saints. In fact, defensive players with an edge are often a good thing :)

Had he played all the games last year, I think he would have made the pro bowl.  This year I think he takes another step forward with all the accolades.  I also seen a story on the top 25 best teams from the SB over the last 50 years and the 1985 bears team was #1.

I am not worried about the guy being a Saint, but he seems to get very distracted with outside things. Women can be very distracting. He doesn't seem like a guy that can handle that type of drama.

I would rather have the dude doing everything in his power on his own time to make himself better. Eating, sleeping, studying, working out, etc. Clearly Smith is not one of those guys. It takes dedication to be great, and you can't always get by on God-given strength and speed.

agree, agree, agree.

Additionally, some all time great defenders were angry, chaotic and destruction oriented.

If he takes it out on his opponent on the field, great. If he takes it out on a woman or a sportscar, much less great.

Hard to say he is not that person.  We see only small pieces of their life on social media.  The latest involved Abbagail Danger donning a Bears viser  and pornhub swimsuit on a boat off the coast of Florida.  He shared it probably because TMZ already had shots and wanted to blast him. I am sure he is working out, conditioning, and watching film.  His position isn't like a FG kicker, basketball shooter, pitcher/hitter that can work on their craft.  He had one downfall with missing that game and we may never find out why until his last dance documentary.  If they get to play, he should put up big numbers again.  Will the numbers be enough to make him All-Pro amongst Mack, Hicks, Quinn, Trevathan, Bojack, Fuller etc is yet to be seen.

All true Ashkum, and I am rooting for him, and wont be surprised to see him ascend.
