My Bears mock draft

Featured Replies

As an Iowa State alum I've been watching Blythe for years. He is basically Mike Hass in a bigger body but doesn't get in/out of cuts as well. No great speed, won't run away from anyone but he knows how to use his body and will go after the ball even in traffic. He goes up high and makes great overhead catches similar to what you've seen from Olsen. He'd be a good late round addition to the receiving corps, one that could really help out our redzone offense. Line up Blythe 6-4 with Olsen 6-5 and you have two guys who can go up over defenders to get the ball.

Trade our 1st and our 5th for a team's 2nd and 3rd.

1 (2nd round). Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware

2 (2nd round). Early Doucet, WR, LSU

3 (3rd round). Tony Hills, T, Texas

4 (3rd round). Roy Schuening, G, Oregon State

5 (3rd round). Jamar Adams, S, Michigan

6 (4th round). Kevin Smith, RB, Central Florida

7 (6th round). James McClinton, DT, Kansas

8 (7th round). Maurice Purify, WR, Nebraska

Why would we trade our 1st rounder AND 5th rounder for only a 2nd and 3rd? That makes no freakin sense, that is terrible value.

If you use that chart that says what each pick is worth, if we only traded a 1st rounder for a 2nd and a 3rd, we are still something like 250 short of what is close to equal, or exactly equal, so that's why I included a 5th. You can just use our 6th, too.

My last one until FA a week before the draft, please leave some comments.

1. Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt

2. Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware -- more I see of Joe the more I would not risk waiting any later to select him than 2nd rd

3. Branden Albert, OG, Virginia -- very athletic and like what I see on film and could sneak into 1st rd as he is projected as LT / LG in NFL

4. Jonathan Hefney, S, Tennessee -- undersized and not very physical and could be a nickel DB (cut RMJ)

5. Kevin Smith, RB, Central Florida -- could go in RD 3-4

6. Jerome Simpson, WR, Coastal Carolina -- probably rd 4-5

7. King Dunlap, OT, Auburn -- good late rd OT project

8. Paul Hubbard, WR, Wisconsin -- not sure if he will be here this late probably 4-5th rd

1. Berrian- 5 years, $33 million

4. Where's Rex? 2yr deal -- cut Griese

Cut Moose and Arch

Glad to see your Mock Draft has come back down to earth a little. Overall nice job with FA signings and Draft. Assuming we signed Faneca would you consider trading down into the late 1st and picking up an additional pick or would you consider a LB like Rivers / Connor , RB such as Mendenhall / Jones or a DE like Phillip Merling if they are sitting there at 14?

Other Prospects that I am intringued with are:

CB: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie -- could possible allow Tillman to move to S in future

RB: deep position in draft with several prospects who are fast i.e. Charles, Choice, Slaton, Johnson all worth a look

WR: Devin Thomas / Andre Caldwell

FB: Peyton Hillis / Own Schmitt

DE: Chris Ellis

S: Quentin Demps

LB: Ezra Butler / Jordon Dizon -- could enhance ST if BA is not resigned

My last one until FA a week before the draft, please leave some comments.

I like the FA pick ups except Johnson, thats too much money for him i would rather spend 5/30mil on Michael Turner. We can cut Moose, Arch, Miller, Walker and free up a little over 10 mil which I think will leave us with 30 mil to play with. All the FA signings will make about 20 mil. In the draft i have been thinking about it lately, how about trading down with San Francisco and getting there 1st and 2nd this allows them to get a guy like Phillip Merling who they desperately need.

FA

1. Berrian 5/33mil sounds good

2. Faneca 5/40 overpaying and I love it he will be worth it

3. Turner 6/30 mil i dont want to pay Bryan Johnson that much spend a little more and get Turner

So our draft picks can go.

1. Gosder Cherilius OT (With this pick we solidify the Line)

2a. Early Doucet WR LSU (Blocks like Hines Ward and has good hands.)

2b. Brandon Albert OG. Virginia (Watched the little tape of him on NFL.com he is disgusting might not even be here when we pick)

3a. Trevor Laws DT Notre Dame (Beast in the Senior Bowl)

3b. Chad Henne, Joe Flacco, Josh Johnson, maybe Andre Woodson

4. Johnathan Hefney S. Tennessee

5. Owen Schmitt FB West Virginia

6. Jordan Dizon OLB Colorado he would be a steal in the 6th

7. BPA WR preferably

Line up Projection:

Offense

QB Orton, Griese, Henne

RB Turner, Benson, Peterson, Wolf

FB Mckie, Schmitt(Red shirted)

WR Berrian, Doucet, Hester, Bradley, Hass

TE Olsen, Clark

LT Tait, St. Clair

LG Faneca, Beekeman, Albert

C Kruetz, Garza

RG Full compettiton (Garza,Beekman,Albert)

RT Cherilius, St. Clair

Defense

DE Ogun, Brown, Anderson, Bauzin Idonijie

DT Harris, Dusty, Laws, Adams, Toeiana

LB Urlacher, Hillenmyer, Jamar Williams, Dizon, Okwo McGlover

CB Tillman, Vasher, McBride, Manning, Graham

S Mike Brown, Manning, Payne, McGowan, Hefney

Well I don't want Turner. I still want to give Benson another shot. If worse comes to worse, we could take a RB with our 1st rounder next year (Knowshon Moreno anyone??).

Also, there's no way Flacco is still there when we pick for the 2nd time in the 3rd round.

I don't get why you put those there. Our 5th pick in the draft is our 4th round, so therefore, putting "Round 3-4" there makes no sense. The same with Simpson- the 6th pick for us is our 5th rounder, so putting "round 4-5" again makes little sense.

I am simply stating that these guys will probably be drafted earlier than you have them going to the Bears.

No way Rachel is still there in round 5 and there's no way Flacco is there with our 2nd pick in the 3rd. Also, Zbikowski sucks. I've watched too many ND games to want him at all. He isn't fast, and he can't cover worth a damn.

Here's my updated one: (not particularly what I want, but what I think will happen)

1. Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois

2. Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska

3. DaJuan Morgan, S, North Carolina State

3. Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame

4. Mike McGlynn, OG, Pittsburgh

5. Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia

6. DJ Hall, WR, Alabama

7. Paul Smith, QB, Tulsa

Thoughts??

Well If we do this our offense will not be any better than last year and people on the board will be complaining that Mendenhall is a bust since he doesn't break tackles in the backfield.

We need to go oline in the 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd. We need an OT and OG that can be in rotation now.

I'm hoping we trade down and pick more picks.

I hope we do not go safety and DT that high. We need a WR and a QB before the 6th and 7th rounds. I'm kind of hoping Josh Johnson.

Also, Zbikowski sucks. I've watched too many ND games to want him at all. He isn't fast, and he can't cover worth a damn.

You watched plenty of ND games. Pft, yeah right.

Zbikowski will be a solid player in the NFL.

Yet, you're the same person that thinks Josh Johnson is good?

IF that happens, the draft is a failure. At least three horrible decisions without going into specific players' faults.

1) Drafting a RB in the first is the absolute wrong movie.

2) Drafting a QB in the 7th, which is basically camp fodder, is a bad decision considering the Rex/Orton situation.

3) Drafting a single worthwhile offensive lineman is atrocious.

Saftey is NOT an overly pressing need and we will go offensive players in the 3rd. Besides this is not a great year for saftey to go that high.

Obviously this is a work in progress but here is what I have been thinking in my spare time which I have not had much lately:

2008 Bears Draft List

Best available

Round Pick Player Target Position Priorty

1 14 Clady / Williams / Alberts OT very high

2 44 Brohm / Flacco / Thomas / Caldwell QB/WR high

3 75 K.Smith / Royal RB/WR very high

3 90 T. Hills / OG/OT high

4 106 M. Forte/ Woodard RB/SS medium

5 134 Simpson/Hubbard WR medium

6 173 Powell DT Depth

7 205 Stewart FB medium

Bold = projected available selection

Here's mine. I posted it another thread, but should've placed it here.

We give AZ nexts years 2nd and 5th for Boldin. Followed by the draft

1) Chris Williams- OT

2) Chad Henne(1) or Joe Flacco(2)- QB

3) Chilo Rachal- OG

3) Matt Forte- RB

4) Owen Schmitt- FB

5) Adarious Bowman- WR

Stopped at 5th round. I really don't care to see us stockpile any more defenders this draft.

Made this after the comp picks were awarded. This is actually my last one before the draft

Miami trades us their 32nd, 65th, and their 161st pick for our 14th to move up for Derrick Harvey, after they go with Matt Ryan with their 1st overall pick

-------------------------------------------------------

We also trade 2 of our 4 7th's to the Browns for their 6th rounder next year

2. Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville

2. Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska

3. Matt Forte, RB, Tulane

3. Andre Caldwell, WR, Florida

3. Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas

4. Phillip Wheeler, OLB, Georgia Tech

5. Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia

6. DJ Wolfe, S, Oklahoma

6. Jeremy Zuttah, OT, Rutgers

7. Kory Litchtensteiger, OG/C, Bowling Green

7. Kevin Robinson, WR, Utah State

I think if we had a $1 for every one of your mock's, we're solve the ecomomy crisis! ;)

Keep 'em comin'!
