This pick was a surprise to everyone but a few experts. DJ and Brugler had him  rated around 10. We got excited when Johnson came here , everyone was cheering and now that Johnson gets someone he wanted, people complain. I'm excited to see what Ben does with him.

none of that matters. The reason people are comparing him to Allen is how he plays the top of his route. Not his 40 time, weight or height. Loveland breaks well, and can get open on those option routes (inside/outside) that Allen was known for. He provides the same FUNCTION.

As for giving Johnson some benefit of the doubt on the pick, I totally agree. We all loved what Johnson did in Detroit, and a lot of that was about how he used Sam LaPorta. Now we have a guy who's NFL comp is LaPorta, so we should let it play out before we judge it. It seems a pretty natural pick.

He is growing on me. Seems to be a kid that will put in the work. We will see. I am just hoping for the best and that he adds a missing element to the offense that will create mismatches and allow the offense to get some better presnap reads on the defense. The Bears haven't outschemed people since 2018, and even that was only periodic. 

 

Colston is the 11th TE to be drafted in the top 10 in NFL history. The last 3 were Pitts, Hockenson, and Ebron.

Heard him on Waddle an Silvy today. I like him. I think Johnson got what he wanted and what he can use creatively on the field. Given how the draft fell, I think Colston was a solid pick. Now, I'd like to see OL, DL and RB taken today. But that's just me.

Oh for sure. Loveland is a great player and he's going to help us a lot. I think people rightly have some concerns about other positions or players theyt hink should have been taken instead, but none of that changes the player Loveland is.

So it's OK to not like the pick, and still like the player.

Personally, Im Ok with the pick and I really like the player. But I am still concerned about LT.

The other piece is assessing the totality of the draft and not just a singular pick. If he was the only pick, then it would not be the most ideal pick, however, if Poles addresses the other needs in the next 3 picks, the Loveland pick will be more loved.

I look at it Caleb's draft.  What does Coach Ben and Caleb need to make him a top 5 QB.  With only one pick, and Banks, Loveland or Jeanty are the guys that I would expect.  I see the Bears investing early on Offense to get this accomplished.  I wouldn't be surprised if they go 39 RB and  41 OT, since NO plucked Banks before us. 

Caleb texted Loveland this just after the pick:  “Congrats, I'm excited to get you here, I'm going to be tough on you, coach Johnson's going to be tough on you, but [you're a] heck of a player, excited to get things rolling," Loveland said. "Just let me know if you need anything, I'm here, just excited to get you here and meet face-to-face and get the ball rolling.'"

I like the leadership!

With all the picks this is the easiest one to rout for. Farm kid from small town and can ball. This is a no brainer as a WR type that plays TE.

We drafted two players that turned down more NIL money to stay with their current teams.   Shemar Turner and Luther Burden.   Burden took a pay cut to enable his team to sign other players.

Concur. I like that he’s a stud TE, and he has a chance to be great…but I don’t like the pick at all. I’d rather they tried to maximize an underused Kmet, and then spend the pick on OL/DL. Mykell Williams, Kenneth Grant, Jalen Walker, Shemar Stewart. Great Players at positions of need were available. Instead, the Bears have two highly drafted TEs, one of which won’t catch more than 20 or so passes.

I would've rather had Grant at 10, then Kaleb Johnson instead of Turner at 62. To me, Grant+Johnson has more value than Loveland+Turner, but I could be wrong.

I hope you're wrong. To many people think because they didn't draft who they wanted, bad draft. We got 4 good players that can help this team. Actually the first two could be future pro bowl types. 

Both scenarios could turn out good. They know what they have here, we try to guess what's good and bad. It's something no one knows on the day the draft ended.
