funny. you didnt post tape, you posted stats.

Im saying YOU should look at the tape.

Kmet is decent but not great. He doesnt get open vs man coverage, either by moves or west coast style body position. He is stiff, and in only open when there is a hole in the zone.

Why do you think his targets are low? Because he isnt open. Yes, he can catch the ball when he is open and you throw it to him. A lot of guys can. But he isnt worth what we are paying him, especially now with Loveland on the roster.

Time will tell.

I posted tape 9 entries ago on this post. I dont think any team in the league has blue chip players at very position on their teams. I agree he is a good player and not great. Out of his 47 catches he had 8 contested catches. He is wide open on 80% of  his catches. Had the highest catch rate with TEs in the league 2 yrs in a row. The bottom line is how long will the bears keep him? I say he plays out his contract.

Which teams we played last yr played mostly man against us?

The stats are painting the wrong picture.

You say he is wide open on 80% of his catches. You also say he has low targets.

This means he doesnt get open often. It means when a defense fails, he is WIDE open and can catch. ANYONE who is wide open can catch. But he doesnt get open enough.

Apparently we DO have a blue chip TE now. So why pay TE2 $11.6M a year when you have so many mouths to feed on offense anyway? You can get a cheaper inline TE2 and improve the team in other ways.

The only reason you want to keep him is that once someone is on the team, you ALWAYS want to keep them. To you, someone on the team is family, and someone who isnt currently on the team is not. But maybe youd love a different player we could get with that money on the defensive line?

Kmet doesnt suck, but we are paying him too much, and those resources could do more good for us somewhere else. Thats why I think we will trade him next year or this year at the deadline.

FWIW, i dont think the Bears are shopping Kmet. My prediction was next year, or at the trade deadline this year.

I dont think you want him gone but after Loveland is up to speed, get rid of the contract. I think he will be used as part of the offensive plan and stay until his contract is up. 2027. You nevere know when an injury pops up, so lets say they do trade him and a couple games later Loveland gets hurt. Totally would screw up the offensive scheme. They arent going to have cap problems until Caleb is up for a contract . All of these contracts except for DJ end in 2027.

yes, youre right.

however, Kmet will never be able to do what Loveland does, so if Loveland gets hurt, Kmet cant really fill his role anyway?

The best argument for Kmets role on this team, in my opinion, is the 2 TE sets.

They have tons of cap space and have a player who is still ascending. Having two good tight ends is a multiplier and creates unique match up dynamics for defenses. When you combine that with the wideout crew and a bright offensive mind - you can create match up problems all over the field. Why the heck should the Bears cut someone or trade them and get rid of that. Kmet and Loveland are so complimentary and if you go big you put Loveland out wide and destroy them and you can also run…you can also spread the field and have Loveland out there for size and than shrink and run or use Loveland as a match up.

We finally have real unique skill sets all over the field and people want to trade two of them so we can go back to being mediocre at skill position level - screw that - Bears have massive cap space - pile up as much damn talent as possible.

its a good argument, and it hinges on how good Kmet will be. I think we all agree he will get a chance to show what he can do, so if he is really a problem for defenses, and a multiplier he will get his chance to show it.

But in no way am I on board with trading DJ Moore. THAT guy is a player. He wasnt so well behaved last year, but i think he hates losing. I'm OK with that. Just like Stevenson, they get a blank slate this year. Eberflus deserves the blame for their sins, these players get a new start.

But i still think, based on my belief of what level Kmet really is, that he wont be around next year, or maybe at the trade deadline. But if he plays differently, or johnson puts him situations to succeed and he proves himself, then you are right we will probably keep him.

I agree, he's here till the end of his contract. How do you run an effective 12 set with a blocking TE and a Y.  Kmet's off year was because of targets. He's a top 10 TE in the league. Just when we get a potenial offense why start eliminating assets. It doesnt make any sense.

I dont think the team is absoultely not looking to do that. Its pundits and some fans that have to keep stirring the pot. 5 weapons is better than 3.

If they ever trade him, it will be because a bigger need rises and they need his cap value. Let's say the Bears go into 2026 needing 2 safeties and they miss out in the draft like they did on RBs. Kmet might be an asset that the Bears can trade for a good, vet S.

Carr retiring today, seen all the main press posting it. Is it time to see what Bagent is worth?

I wonder if they are interested, or want to go full tank mode. Bagent would win them some games. They also drafted Shough in the 2nd round.

Right now I'd say Rattler is their starter. And I don't see Bagent going anywhere at this point. But do have a full QB room, so who knows.

Rumors are the Bears are working on extending Bagent so they don't outright lose him in FA.

Correct. Which is also why drafting Loveland was a bad move.

Like I said before, like the player but hate the pick.

If Ben Johnson prefers the Laporta type TE and Kmets role is TE 2 or blocking, then I agree with Phoenix that he will be traded sooner than later.  But Johnson isn't going to do exactly what he did in Detroit and might find a way to implement both.  With the personal they have, they can run so many formations that will defenses won't know how to defend

Kmet is more than  a blocking TE. The other TE in Detroit didnt get targets because he is a blocking TE. In

2023 LaPorta had 120 targets'/86 catches at 52 yds a game 10 TDs. catch rate.  71.2 %

In 2023 Kmet had 90 targets/ 70 catches at 42 yds a game 6 TDs. Kmet had the best catch rate in the league. 81.1%

3 Top WRs and 2 Top TEs is a OCs dream.
