Camp tidbits

I haven't heard anything out of camp this year that feels any different than in year's past. It's always the same story about the struggling offense and quarterback. There's still a few weeks left to turn a corner, and maybe they will after the install period is over later this week, but the vibes don't feel great to me with the quarterback. Way too many delays of games and lack of anticipatory throws.

I have.  My sense is this is the most talented group we’ve had at the skill positions in a very long time.  It’s been two weeks of practice and for some rookies just one week.  I’m not worried about the Oline because most of those issues appear to be communication.  Experience will iron out the wrinkles.

Same.  From culture alone, it's been night and day from what we've seen in over a decade.

Watching GMFB this morning, they were so concerned with 2019 Lamar Jackson being inaccurate in camp.  That led to his MVP.  Then, they talked Jamar Chase dropping a ton of ball in practice, which led to an All Pro season.

I think Caleb will be fine, even if he doesn't figure out how to throw people open.  There are several HOF QB's that didn't have that in their tool bag.

Loveland was criticized for his route running being a tick too slow and not being ready for the ball coming out of his breaks.  This was after he dropped a couple where Williams hit him right out of the break.   I’m not worried about Loveland.  He’ll adapt to it and I expect Caleb to keep throwing him open like that.

I agree with both of you. Id like to see it soon, but it might take a minute, but it's hard to imagine this group not figuring it out over time. The roster and the staff are much better than anything we've seen in quite a while, and in some ways, ever.

I dont want to have patience, and I am going to see every mistake in the early games of course, but if it doesnt come fast, that doesnt mean it isnt coming.

We will see what needs fixing, and if players need replacing - which isnt always the same thing at all. If Trapilo is rough early for example that's different than if DJ Moore is screwing up. One you expect to have a growth period, and the other is a polished pro who should be his normal great self.

But i think this team should grow into something special, and i hope it happens fast, but if it takes a minute, we should be seeing growth at least. I won't lose hope right away if we start slow.

My concern with Trapilo is somewhat the opposite of Braxton Jones:   Can he handle speed on the edge?  We have nobody on our roster to really test him that way.

exactly. But Miami will.

He was pretty good on his college tape, moves well laterally, and is naturally wide. But some of these pass rushers have speed and hands and they are slippery as hell. Cant wait to see Trapilo try to handle that. And even if he gets beat a few times, if he learns, that will be great.

This is different.  Talking about the players starts at 12 min.  Oline around the 14 min mark.

Ben Johnson is definitely different. He’s like no coach I’ve seen the Bears have in my lifetime. Every second I hear how he operates or see it - just gives me confidence.

My only real struggle right now is Caleb not throwing guys open given he struggled a ton with it last year. I get that it is still new system and they are throwing a lot at him - but I want to see progress these next few weeks and then of course throughout the season.

Im excited though for Ben - seems like the absolute real deal!

The most physical day of practice all year. On a downer note, Kmet left with an injury and he was visable upset, so it may not be minor. 4 fights broke out and Brad Briggs said this is the most physical practice he has seen since Lovie took over as coach.

Former Packer..

https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/first-rule-of-bears-fight-club-ben-johnson-likes-a-physical-practice

"Maybe the most physical play didn’t involve a skirmish or shoving. Tight end Joel Wilson caught a pass near the sideline and floated toward the boundary but really fast. Safety Major Burns let him know he better get out quicker than he did by laying on a huge hit that sent the former Packers player sprawling a few yards to the turf out of bounds."

I think Dennis Allen served a wake up call to the offense in front of the family crowd and embarassed and challenged them.

This physical practice is probably the result of that - and it's good to see people getting dialed in. They will have to do a bunch more gut checks accompanied by a step up in intensity like this until they are ready to dominate other NFL teams.

In the past I think we've tried to hang with NFL teams. It requires another level of intensity to dominate a pro team.

When they're at the level that they see each week as an actual fight and nothing less than a beat down is OK, THEN this team will be a real contender.

Another step forward. Keep stacking them.

This was not the type of practice they should do all the time - but you also have to practice with real intensity and balance and I love the tone they are trying to set. And Biggs said since lovie all of the other major bear outlets said most physical and intense they had ever seen. Any way you slice it - this is a very different coaching staff and tone that is being taken. It also sounds like it was a pretty damn good practice with flash plays by offense and defense!

This is a great interview with Caleb.  You can get a sense of what is to come and just how complicated this offense is.  Given all that, how far Caleb and the offense has already come in just two weeks is impressive.

Sorry, the blood rushed to the wrong head with Stacey Dale's being in the interview.  Couldn't take it...🤯❤️🥰

I wouldnt want to try to predict when this offense will be rolling, but it seems that if they keep making progress, they have everything to get it rolling, and thatrs gonna be really fun.

It seems very likely that given enough time, these guys are gonna be dangerous. Hopefully early, but either way, eventually.

That didnt open but I think I already saw it. The best interview I ever saw Caleb give. I think it was Marquee sports that did the interview.  Its called The Chicago Football Show. I went to their channel and couldnt find it. If its a different one let me know so I can watch it.

With Keenan Allen signing a 8.3 mil contract with the Chargers do we get a comp pick for that ? Does anyone know?

I don't think so because he was signed so late. I believe the free agency period before the draft are the only signings that count towards the formula.

Jordan Addison is suspended for the first 3 weeks of the season. So the Bears will get the Vikings in Week 1 without their WR2, which is a pretty big deal because their next best WR is Nailor, which will scare nobody. Jefferson is also currently hurt with a hamstring injury, but has a month to heal. Stop the run and shade to Jefferson's side should make for a very winnable game for the Bears in Week 1.
