Preseason Week 3 Game Thread - Bears at Chiefs, NFLN, FRI, 8-22, 7:20pm Central

Johnson said starters will play some, so I assume at least one drive for offensive starters.

I like how Johnson ramped this up.

I believe the Chiefs are also playing their starters. Maybe its a trend with the new shortened preseason.

Thayer said maybe two series.  I think he gets inside info...

I think BJ just wants to see a progression with Caleb. The fact its going to be a 16 day stretch before the first game has to be part of the reason.

I love the buy-in. From the interviews, you can really see that there is a difference.

Compared to the other younger Offensive-minded HCs, McVay is probably the only one I would take over Johnson. Shanahan always chokes, LaFleur is solid but I feel like he has already peaked, and McDaniel gives me young Trestman vibes.

They got completely screwed in the Superbowl.  Nick Bosa got everything but cavity searched, in that game, with zero calls.  Seriously, he was blatantly held on at least four drive extending plays that absolutely swung the game by leading to multiple scores. There's a montage out there.

Refs suck in general, but that had nothing to do with their offense only scoring 20 and 19 (in regulation) in the last two SB appearances. In 2020, they didn't score in the 4th quarter, then in OT in 2024, they got to the KC 9 and kicked a freaking FG. He had 1st and 10 from the 15 and lost the game.

He had similar games in ATL, CLE, WAS, and HOU. Before ATL, he was an OC for 7 years and had one season where his team made the playoffs, and what did they do, lose a home wild card game and only scored 14 pts. It is the Shanahan curse.

I does matter if only one team is getting the benefit of calls.  They refs provided a 14 point swing in that game.  I had no skin in that game whatsoever, but I lost a lot of faith in the NFL over it.

Crazy enough, it was the Swifty effect.  There was a 20 percent bump in viewership when she was known to be at games and European swag sales and purchased games for club parties exploded.  My buddy coaches an NFL academy team out of Nuremberg Germany and said it's insane the growth and interest.

Coaches, GM's and owners call bullshit on it and KC got their ass waxed as result.  Lord Mahomes even took a good blow to the head that was blatant and not called.  Hopefully, the NFL is done with that crap.

I want to get to the SB so I have a chance to complain about the officiating. Definitely a lot of mistakes on the ref tree.

I wasn't calling them mistakes.

I understand but a hard sell on a NFL conspiracy would be tough to execute.  I get they may like the results. It sure does look that way some times?

I know he got dinged up a little, but if Austin Booker is half as effective as he has been in the preseason, the pass rush rotation is going to be really solid.

Did we have a scrimmage with the Chiefs yesterday?

I havent seen anything about it so i assume we didnt but i wonder why.

No.  They had closed practices at Halas Hall.

too bad, but i guess in-game is preferred for the last preseason game. At least we get to see it for ourselves against 1st stringers.

I'm just hoping it's televised in my area...

me too - I want you to see it so we can compare notes.

Very excited to see if the crispness continues.

Ugh. In Phoenix AZ, the game is "blacked out in your area" on NFL Network, so i get to see a replay of it in 3 1/2 hours. I guess i wont read this site until ive seen it for spoilers. Look forward to talking about it with you all when Im caught up.

They gave Mahomes a 30+ yard penalty to aid his first drive, ridiculous. They called a face mask AND DPI on Wright.

Then try refuse to call holding on the KC Oline.

there are always "NFL streams" available.

How is that neck collar on Robinson not a holding penalty?

I'd say KC is on another level.  Mahomes has the Aaron Rodgers silckness that we seem to miss.  Our run D has holes yet didnt see Jarrett or Billings out there.

On Offense, they have to be faster getting the ball out.  Having quicker timed patterns because they are not wide-open like last week.

Good to get knocked down now so they know they have morenwork to do.

Defense got abused by KC on those drives with the starters. DL running in quicksand, Nashon Wright getting exposed at CB....  Officiating has been horrible though. KC got away with multiple holds and they were calling every ticky tack thing on the Bears.

Offense predictably came back down to earth against the Chiefs #1's. Caleb had a rough go until the final drive against their backups. Botched handoff, took a bad sack on 2nd and 3, and missed a wide open checkdown to Swift in the redzone that would have kept the drive alive that they ended up settling for 3. Good ball placement on the deep throw to Rome on the last drive. Rome has to start coming down with those.

2-0-1. I just saw highlights since it wasn’t on in my area but look forward to watching later this weekend once I can see the NFL network recording. Sounds like a slow start by Caleb and some lessons to learn - but they also got some points. Two weeks now to get ready for week 1 and hopefully some more film to reinforce good things but just as much allow the staff to reinforce the things Caleb and team need to keep working on!
