adam
This game is a completely different story if the refs called an even game. It is a 40-10 blowout. Same for last week. The silver lining is the old Bears would shit their pants and lose. This is a different team.

adam
PFF Grades are always amusing. For this game, only two players on the entire team had a below average grade (below 50.0). Benedet had a 43.2 and Turner had a 29.7 on 10 snaps. The top 5 on offense were: Swift - 83.6 Dalman - 74.8 (kind of funny considering the snap issues) Monangai - 73.8 Thuney - 72.7 Jackson - 72.1 (he is slowly getting better and better, you don't hear his name called much) Top 5 on defense: Edwards - 86.8 Wright - 85.9 Jackson - 83.9 (only 14 snaps, but he seems to always be around the ball) Dexter - 76.6 Gordon - 74.1 Funny Grades: Edmunds - 53.6 (he was all over the place making plays, this is a ridiculous grade) Williams - 62.4 (for the first time ever, I think they gave Williams a higher grade than he deserved, accuracy alone puts him under 50.0, so I don't know what they are looking at. BearFan PHX
Hes nothing if not intense. I love it. Everything I wanted from Vrabel is here in abundance with Johnson. Our future is bright.
AZ54
I’ve watched the usual QB film study and some others. I watch a few other games each week. The core of this team is becoming good. The Saints blitzed a lot all game and yet not once did it feel like our Oline and Caleb didn’t know what to do. We have a ways to go to get the consistency the really good teams have but 6 games into the Ben Johnson era the floor has moved up considerably from where we were the last few years. I think there were a few times the Saints zone blitzed, and the lineman dropped right into the throwing lane of our hot read. Caleb, to his credit, didnt throw the pick, and ran around instead, usually not to great effect. Williams and Johnson will have to work to build a better answer to that - and thats exactly what this season is for. Benedet also had a terrible game, two killer penalties and got beat a bunch by Chase Young. Not saying Jones or Trapilo are a better choice, but if theres a good LT in the draft next year that falls to the right place, we shouldnt hesitate to pick him just because Benedet and Trapilo are on the roster. Ditto possible trades or free agents.
Stinger226
I heard a interesting stat this morning. We lead the league in explosive plays with 48. Over 10 yds rushing and 20 yds passing. This offense is probably around 60% of what it is going to be. The OL is starting to jell, the weapons are plentiful and a QB that still has room to grow. We are the only team in the league that has scored over 21 points in every game. I think the key to anything we do is Caleb getting better but since the OL appears to be fixed, the running game is solid and DL is starting to get some pressure, Theo is more consistent that Braxton was but still needs to grow. Jackson worried me in the beginning but is starting to show his stuff. I think the one position we may trade for will be a DB. DuShon Wright has shown some signs of making big plays but he makes a lot of mistakes also. 2 of our top 4 DBs are out for the year in JJ and T. Smith. I think Stevenson is stepping up but we need one more consistent players in our DB group. Gordon is getting his legs under him and starting to show why he is a blue player. If we added an upgrade at any group it would be welcomed but I think we see why they have not added a RB. All 3 of our top RBs are showing signs of life. We dont have a dominate DE but with Booker coming back soon, I think they run with what we got. Grady is still injury and if he gets healthy, that will help. adam
Looking back at the all-22, there were about 50 extra yards left on the field by mainly Swift and Monangai. It is so weird. Swift is following blockers, then out of the blue, says nah I'm good, and runs right into a defender who tackles him. Monangai did it too, where there is blocker straight ahead engaged, and he can go left or right, with no one on one side and defender on the other, he goes right to the defender who tackles him. So as much as the accuracy issues need to be addressed in the passing game, there are still more yards left on the field in the running game. Admittedly I haven't seen the all-22 but I have noticed that Swift is more of a blocker reliant style of runner. He needs the plays to develop as they are drawn for him to excel. I was recently watching some of his college highlithts and even when he played in Georgia he was known to follow his blocker (esp in the open field) right up to the point of engagement (some call that patience). Maybe because he waits so long to decide which side he's going to make the cut it gets him within too close proximity of the tackler (??) I'd think this also might be a symptom of him slowing down a little but like I said earlier, he did it in college too. Monangai I haven't seen much of other than to say he's more effective between the tackles than is Swift. And so was Johnson....theoretically.
