Bears Resign Josh McCown

Good. I like our 1,2,3 now....

Had they addressed these issues last year, we would have been in the playoffs.

As with many issues! Thankfully they addressed the biggest issue...with Emery!

QB shored up

At some point, maybe next year, the team is going to need to look at drafting a decent QB. One that can be around as a long term (and reliable) #2. Neither Campbell nor McCown are spring chickens anymore.

McCown's a veteran which means he's likely to earn 1 million per if he makes the roster. That combined with the 3.5 one year deal we gave Campbell, that's 4.5 dedicated to the back-up QB.

From a football standpoint I love the idea. From a financial standpoint,it's terrible. These 2 QB's are making more than most the guys on our roster. Not good.

good backup QBs cost you 3 mil and we need the insurance. As much as Cutler has been durable, one play can blow him up.

No, great back-up QB's cost you 3 million. Guys competing to be the starting QB cost you 3 million. Good back-ups do not cost 3 million.

You say one play can blow him up. The year Urlacher went down we sucked. Why not sign a 3 million $$$ back-up up for him? It's because when your great players go down, generally you're screwed. If Peppers goes down, we're in real bad shape. Are we going to pay the guy opposite of him 3 million? If you are paying back-ups more than your starters, generally you're screwed.

Boy that statement was way off. But I have to say I was under the same impression until Orton signed in dallas, It has become the standard now for quality back ups. It is a sigmnificant increase , but it is what it is.
