Great Kellen Davis video

Featured Replies

Now I'm in favor of getting good play from the TE spot on this team as well, but you cant just blame Davis. Now in this video those plays were not on him. one pass stripped from behind, one pass thrown 10 foot in the air, and another pass thrown to him in double coverage.....try getting him in the middle of the field matched against a LB without to the coverage skills as a DB and he does well. A TE isn't to be 40 yards downfield matched with a DB unless you have the speed of Davis from SF.

While i agree with the over throw lets be honest. Davis was horrible this yr. Dropped passes fumbles. I distinctly remember several plays last couple yrs where he drops a pass with no one around and could have danced his way into the end zone lol

...let's not get into his horrid blocking...

I don't think a top tier TE is needed but a marginal upgrade would be nice. That very well could be Evan Rodriguez. When the WR core is fully healthy they have Earl Bennett to work the middle of the field.

I would be interested to see what Rodriguez could do. Dude was screwed over last yr

I agree. It was either Game 1 or later, but he was annihilating LBs and then they totally went away from using him..

He has potential but we still need to add another TE. Cutler has no confidence in Davis, so he is worthless to this team.

I don't like to ever call players out, but should not be playing football. He had at least one drop a game, and it always killed a drive. He does have guns, I'll give him that, but other than that he's worthless.

Why? Seriously, why do the Bears need another TE? I mean, if Spaeth and Davis are cut, I get it, one can be signed or drafted very late (i.e. 7th), but if Spaeth is still around the Bears will then have a blocking TE (i.e. Spaeth), and a pass-catching TE (i.e. Rodriguez).

I'm all for this offense of the future concept, where the Bears utilize two receiving TEs like the Patriots, but I just don't see it happening.

If we still had Lovie as our HC and Tice as our OC I would agree. However, maybe the new HC & OC will actually bring the Bears offensive schemes a new look that will utilize the TEs properly. If not, the Bears should have just stayed status quo.

I hope you're right. Just like I hoped the drafting of Rodriguez would usher in the first part of the new Chicago Bears, the passing Chicago Bears. But we see how that played out.

The difference is that more than likely we will be hiring a HC with an offensive background. Mike martz hated TE for receiving then lovie promoted Tice who had never called offensive plays before.

The reason i want spaeth gone is $$. Has a cap hit this yr of $2,433,000 and by cutting him prior to camp the only thing we have to eat is $333,000. If we really need a blocking TE im positive we can find 1 cheaper without losing mich in talen. With Davis its 2 fold. His play is real bad and Jay has no confidence in him and 2 is the $$. Has a cap hit this yr of $3.85M. By cutting him we can save a little bit better than another $2M. That's over $4M saves without actually losing much with on field performance that can easily be replace. Somebody mentioned Jared Cook as a possibility and i can live with that and he wont cost much at all. His current value is low and I'm sure he would be happy to get out of TN and actually have a real QB throwing him the ball

Just out of curiosity, what happens to the cap hits for those guys if they were to be traded? Davis in particular, I could see a team with cap space being willing to take that on for a conditional late round pick Would that save the Bears any additional money relative to what cutting him would do?

By releasing him we would only have to pay the remaining part of his signing bonus. If we trade him the new team would be on hook for his remaining salary + bonuses. We wouldn't even take a cap hit at all. I haven't mentioned trading him as only 1 team was serious about him last yr and that was Pittsburgh and considering there cap situation u can forget that option and his play didn't exactly make him more attractive in the past yr. I would be all giddy if we could trade even if it was just for a conditional pick

That's seriously not a whole lot of money, particularly if teams are looking for a TE. What's Dallas's cap situation like? They were the competition for him last year.

I guess i don't remember dallas going after him cuz they had cap problems last yr with the imposed penalty. I just remember Pit was heavily after him.

Davis is a horrible route runner and that won't be changing any time soon, if ever. He just has no instincts for the passing game regardless of his ability to catch the ball, which is marginal.

Kellen Davis is a pathetic football player. If he's wearing orange and navy next year, it better be in Denver.

Jared Cook is a guy I've wanted for awhile. As bowling said, he shouldn't cost much.

Why do I feel like he'd make the pro-bowl if he had Manning working with him and throwing to him?

No idea why you'd feel something so absurd.
