Agree. I was big on him until I watched a college game of his and noticed how small he was. I thought maybe I was wrong in my concerns when he didn't have major injury issues last year. Now, he is a frequent visitor to the injury report and has missed quite a few games.
-
and for all the Daniels stuff, the biggest negative I had on him was injury risk. I always thought he could be a top 12-15 QB but his body type does not suit his play style. We are now on his 3rd injury in less than 25 games.
-
I had some different AIs look it up and I could not find 4 TDs in one game scored that fast unless it was multiple returns, DEF TDs, etc.

One of the weirder things I found is that Caleb is borderline elite with more opportunities. He has a 23-4 TD-INT Ratio in games where he passes for 225 yards or more (11 games). Below 225? 9-6 TD-INT ratio. More yards don't normally imply a better game, but for him it does. Of his 13 career games with a Passer Rating above 90.0, 9 of them occurred with 225 or more passing yards. He only has two games with 225 Passing Yards with a QB Rating below 95, a 80.8 against IND where he threw for 363 Yards (Career High), 2 TD, and 2 INT, and 77.2 against BAL this year.

I think they viewed Loveland as a special talent. Like if Jeanty was available to draft when they have Swift. At least they can play both Kmet/Loveland at the same time. Now that the Bears have a run game and they are running a more successful offense, they can add wrinkles especially in 12 man. -
It's wild when the article mentions guys in this light, yet the unit looks like the worst in the league: "Josh Blackwell, Elijah Hicks, Jahdae Walker, and Travis Homer all round out a solid core of players known for their ability to make plays in the third phase."
-
That’s been my philosophy on here for years. Why draft a QB high if you’re not going to protect him and give him weapons? Looks like that’s finally occurring this year. I just wish they had believed in Kmet as #1 pass receiving TE and drafted someone to whelp the defense.
-
Caleb hasn't had the monster game from start to finish yet. Dallas was close but there were plays left on the field. They just scored 47 against CIN and they probably could've scored 60. If you zoom out a little bit, and in this case remove the best and worst games as anomalies, he is actually pretty consistent and the one thing I notice is he really has a high floor. I think most were expecting him to have a high ceiling, but the floor would be very volatile. In reality, it has been the opposite, and he has had 6 games within a top 12 QB range, 1 game in the top 3, and one game in the bottom 10.
-
well, i guess i wasn't hallucinating from anger. that is an amazing stat. it has to have set a record for pathetic in NFL history.
-
Proves the point it’s just narrative because those teams have a winning record. Both Allen and Mayfield struggled early in their career. Allen didn’t look steady good as QB until last year. Prior to that there was a lot of hero ball. Now he can beat you both ways.

It helps having the easiest SOS in the NFL to pad some wins but they won the games they were supposed to win, so I give him that. Slightly different defenses they were going up against, and CIN was never down by more than 2 scores which is sort of the magic number that late. Once it goes to 3 scores that late, it is basically game over. That is why the Pick-6 called back was so huge. It was a 14-pt swing in seconds. If you didn't watch the WAS game, the Commanders had no chance. The game was over at half, and all SEA did in the 3rd was extend the lead and they had a 31 pt lead with 8 mins to go in the 4th Quarter. Again, you play him if you have a chance to win the game. It was out of hand at that point. So typically you pull your starter to avoid the risk of injury. Quinn didn't.
-
4 TDs in 2 mins and 2 seconds total to be exact. I doubt there is another game where the team allowed 29 pts in 122 seconds.
-
This article from SI.com echoes many of our thoughts on our special teams performance. The Bears' special teams were less than special against Bengals in Week 9
-
Hindsight being what it is I’d think Quinn would’ve re-thought his decision. Just a few hours before their game a 40 year old QB with a bum throwing shoulder managed to score 2-3 TDs in a matter of several minutes against our team so…🤷🏻♂️

was there really 4 opponent TD's each one taking less than one minute? if i remember seeing this correctly i have never seen anything like this in 60+ years watching the nfl. special teams? absolutely NOTHING special about them. basically gave up 10 points or more just in the first half. an onside kick in those circumstances is unforgivable. that said, this defense may be one of the worst i have ever witnessed in a bears uniform. the pass defense and wide open zones was atrocious. stephenson looked like a dumpster fire and the other CB's were worse. brister was also sub par. our DL had no pass rush nearly throughout the game with a few exceptions. the tackling throughout was not just bad, it was REAL BAD!! if you can get 5-10 yards nearly every running play and 10 +++ yards per pass you ain't winning many games and certainly not in any playoff contention. i admit i was so disgusted with our special teams and defense i wasn't watching closely so maybe i was wrong on the TD factor. give us some stats on the 4 TD's StatMan.

Giants defense is 27th in EPA/Play and 31st against the run. They allow 5.5 YPC. It seems like the Bears will be able to control the ball and the clock, and throw when the defense starts bringing that extra guy into the box. The Giants offense is 22nd for EPA/Play, but a lot of that was Skattebo who is on IR. They probably are closer to 25-30th now without him. Robinson+Slayton is 3-4 levels below Chase+Higgins. The current DB group should be up to that challenge.
-
I think Quinn won coach of the year last year. Good coaches make bad decisions sometimes too.
-
Mayfield and Allen are MVP candidates, and Williams is right there, but if you listen to the media, Williams is the only QB in the NFL missing easy throws, etc, etc. Mayfield - 1919 Pass Yds, 13 TD, 2 INT (6-2) Williams - 1916 Pass Yds, 12 TD, 4 INT (5-3) Allen - 1833 Pass Yds, 13 TD, 4 INT (6-2) The media is so bad that you would think that Williams has the worst Comp% in the league or at least the lowest of any 2nd Year QB. Nix, Penix, McCarthy are all lower, and Daniels is only 1% higher. The standout is Maye who has had the easiest schedule of the bunch. This was at the point of Goff's time with Johnson where you saw a visible improvement to his game. I am hoping we see that from Williams from here on out.
-
To me it is scheme-related, not necessarily effort on the players' part. I am going to do a ST review this week of all kickoffs and see if I can see anything that stands out. From the tv view, it always looks like the Bears players are out of position.

I dont disagree a trench player probably would have been a better choice looking at our weaknesses but that was a BJ pick and I have to let it play out . A Ersery has given up 4 sacks and 17 pressures. Also has 4 penalties so he isnt setting the world on fire at this point of in time. Josh Connerly has given up 6 sacks and 8 penalties. 28 pressures while playing RT. Josh Simmons has 1 sack and 3 penalties, 12 pressures in 318 snaps which is the only rookie we could have drafted that is playing decent. Theo has 4 penalties and one sack in 290 snaps , 10 pressures. He hasnt looked good doing it but they are similar to Simmons stats. How much better would we be if we drafted Simmons? I would say at this point its basically a tie. The 3 edge players taken after our 9th pick in the first round has 2 sack between them. None of them are making a big impression after 9 games. As far as a future for any of our other choices we could have had, they may all be all pros but so might Loveland. So at this point in time , no one has made a huge impact on their team . We just had Loveland win a game for us. -

A couple of those Bengals TDs also had good coverage but a great player (Higgins ) made a great play. Penalties' were down but still to many at critical times. Caleb played a lot better but still had some bad decisions along the way. The best trait of Caleb is making plays late in games that put us in position to win games. The Loveland pass was perfect. I think BJ will get him to be more consistent going forward. Theo is still a weakness but I also did not see much chip help given him during the game. Maybe with the Kmet injury that changed some of the blocking scheme. Most people wanted another RB added to the room. Now we can see why they didnt add anyone. . Monangai was a beast. Brown looked good in spelling him also. i think going forward the carries will be split. The two games Monangai looked good he had 15 touches and 29 touches. The pick six with that Chase Brown touch before Edmunds went down with the interception was bogus. I thought he had to touch him when he was on the ground? Mongo ? That would have given us a 21 point lead with 2.30 left in the game. 90% of Flacco's passes were under 10 yards. When he gets the ball out that quick its hard to have a consistent pass rush. We did have a few big plays from the front 7. Booker, Loveland, Monangai all showed up which is encouraging Poles is getting some of the draftees right. I listened to Olin right after the game and he said how difficult it is to stay up after those late plays by the Bengals. We are developing a winning culture when our team finds ways to win under the worst circumstances. These are games we would have lost last year. 5-3 in not chump change. Gardner-Johnson played well for only 5 days with the team. If he keeps his attitude in check, he's a keeper. That's a big IF. -
Definitely we can do better than Hightower but there is a lot of good coaches in the room that would contribute to helping the STs. Correct me if Im wrong but is most of the STs comprised of LBs, DBs, and a few RBs and WRs? We have had injuries in the DB and LB group that has second stringers who would normally be playing ST starting and now young inexperience players are taking those spots. I think continuity in special teams is just as important as the OL needs it to be. Hightower will not be here next year but if we changed now would that do any good? Why was Daniel Hardy on the onside kick play? Young guy with very little experience. I would think WRs and RBs would be the bulk of players out there.

I will say - Drake Maye looks very good. He reminds me of Herbert. Has played some bad defenses too (like Caleb this week) but he has looked the part. -

right - this is right where he is. The pushed vs coddled thing will prove out after a couple years when those other guys are still learning, and Caleb is fully dimensional. Hes showing examples of getting it, and he needs to increase his consistency.
