Yes they are. Campbell took over play calling. I thought they hired an OC to replace Johnson? Detroit’s defense looked good.
-
Probably because they met up with a Vic Fangio led defense. Not sure how it shook out after yesterday, but they were in the top 5 in almost all offensive categories until then.

Week 11 Official Game Thread - CHI @ MIN, Nov 16th, 12PM CST, FOX, CHI +2.5

amen. it's ridiculous. Absolutely. Caleb is not a finished product by any means. This week, the Vikings blitzed on 67% of the plays, and Caleb was under instant pressure. Benedet has not been great in pass protection. What Caleb can do is somehow magically get out of most sacks. This isnt because he has an ego and is playing USC "hero ball" - thats an old media narrative that should be dead by now for anyone watching the games. Escaping pressure is not big play hunting. Also, the Vikings blitzed and played man to man a lot. That means less or no help over the top. The DBs were playing tight and close, so that means the way you beat them is over the top with the long ball. One of Caleb's biggest weaknesses in my view is his inaccuracy on long balls. The Vikings were smart to play him that way. To dare him to beat them over the top. It plays to a weakness, and it forces the play to take longer, which, when coupled with extra pressure, makes things tough on Caleb. But we will improve his pass protection. We will find another player if necessary to play LT. Caleb's long term future is still bright. But his holding the ball longer and throwing long passes this week wasn't ego or hero ball. It was a consequence of the defensive game plan, and a lack of pass protection. His inaccuracy on those early long passes IS on Caleb. And that would have calmed down the blitz if he'd hit on one. There is blame to go around, but if you think Caleb was playing hero ball, and is likely to be replaced in the middle of next year, then you don't really know football at all. -

I think everyone is fully behind Caleb and wants him to succeed and are not interested in what any other QB is doing, including Justin, anyone in Caleb’s class, or Bryce Young (if miraculously he turns into a star). I think we want to see consistent growth from Caleb which I don’t think is 100% there yet. However, there are still factors outside his control that aren't helping. The biggest factor I feel has changed, and I hope this doesn't change. I not half expecting a ridiculous play or playa that massively puts us in an insurmountable position in a game. Yesterday I never felt that we could get out s**t together and win the game. Maybe when Caleb fully gets everything together and the media get behind him we will start getting good officiating, because at the moment it seems the league wants the Bears to not succeed. If we can get Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon back soon, and they get up speed. I think our defense can become a lot stronger because a good to great secondary will improve our pass rush. How satisfying is it to sit at the top of the North and be the number 3 seed. I didn't expect that this year. I would rather be in front and have our things in our hands instead of chasing the Lions and Packers. -

I wish people could just move on from the stupid shit they’ve said in the past and just admit it was stupid. Hell I’ve said sooo many stupid things in the heat of an argument about this team. It happens. Been pouring my heart and soul into loving them for more than 50 years. Anyone who doesn’t see Caleb’s massive potential is being willfully ignorant. -

Totally agree of course. Just watching him, he is getting better each week, and has all the traits of an all time great. Will he reach that height? I dunno, no one can tell, but to think we are going to abandon Caleb Williams based on what weve seen this season is possibly the dumbest thing Ive ever heard. The good news is, when he reaches the next level, which I absolutely think he will, the guy that said we'd get rid of him will probably be talking about how great he is. Instead of how good Justin Fields is (yes still!). There's more to say, but I promised I wouldnt, so I wont. But sheesh. -
We don’t hire the best coaches only to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Well thats an old media narrative for sure. Just so Im clear, youre saying you think the Bears will abandon Caleb Williams in the middle of next season. Thats your take. Astonishing really. -
The one thing PIT does well is prevent TDs. That has saved them. They are also 2nd in the NFL in missed tackles (Loveland game). I still can't believe how good the Bears defense has been on 3rd downs. Now they need to stop allowing first downs on first and second down so much. 3rd Down Defense: CHI - 2nd (33.7%) PIT - 24th (41.7%) 4th Down Defense: CHI - 11th (53.3%) PIT - 27th (72.0%) Red Zone Defense (TD Rate): CHI - 14th (58.3%) PIT - 6th (51.4%) Yards Allowed per Drive: CHI - 22nd (32.5) PIT - 28th (35.1)

It’s outside the thread topic but I checked out a couple Viking’s fan post game discussions on YouTube. That loss hit them like a hard kick to the Skol sack. The fan base is definitely out on McCarthy right now.
-
I don’t know what’s going on in Detroit but the further they get from Ben Johnson the more their offense looks like the Bears old offense. I didn’t see the whole game but in the fourth quarter the Eagles weren’t doing anything special but Detroit Oline didn’t always know who to block.

Week 12 Official Game Thread - PIT @ CHI, Nov 23rd, 12PM CST, CBS, CHI -2.5

Playing Pitt will be a physical game and will take advantage of mistakes much like we do. They have been Minny-NE-Colts which arent considered bad teams. Only two teams have went over 120 rushing against them this year. Their defense is much like ours, bad stats and make big plays. Offensively they (if Rundolph) will be throwing a lot to RBs and their TEs. All under stuff like we seen against Minny. We need a better game from Caleb and we will be in the drivers seat. -

I predict right now, every game is going to be close and we have not seen the last of the late game win scenario. -
then I would love that, he is a team leader and playmaker. He never was a speed guy, so the age doesn't bother me at all. Make him retire as a Bear.
-
I didn't realize PIT had the worst passing defense in the league, worse than DAL and CIN (in terms of yardage) and in the bottom half of the league in terms of QB Pressure: PIT OFFENSE: 22nd Passing 29th Rushing PIT DEFENSE: 32nd Passing 13th Rushing

Bears OFF +0.02 x PIT DEF -0.04 / -0.01 x 66.7 plays= (-0.67 DIFF) 25.8 Bears O x 23.2 PIT D + DIFF = 23.8 (24 pts) PIT OFF -0.04 x Bears DEF -0.05 / -0.045 x 57.1 plays= (-2.57 DIFF) 24.6 PIT O x 26.4 Bears D + DIFF = 22.9 (23 pts) Congunkulator shows a close game 24-23, but that is with Rodgers at QB. If it is Rudolph, you have to believe that is at least 3 pts less for PIT, making it a 24-20 game.
-
The Congunkulator was pretty close, and predicted wins the last two weeks.
-
Yeah, I am glad all of that is over. This truly is a new era. Hopefully we get Johnson+Williams for the next 15-20 years and the coaching and QB musical chairs finally stop.
-
Poles finally took the North.
-
PIT is a common opponent in the Division race, so this game does have tie-breaker importance beyond just a Win vs Loss. 8-3 with 6 games left would really set the Bears up for no less than a Wild Card berth.
-
He won't last long. They will give him this year to fail and I would expect them to draft another one or sign a proven vet if he does not improve (which he won't). If anyone watched any Michigan games, he handed the ball off 80% of the time, and was only asked not to make mistakes, but because he was a good kid and the ultimate hype man, MIN bought into the "winner mentality". I also think the league got over their skis on KOC. Solid coach, etc, but a little overrated. Not hard to beat teams when you have a Flores defense holding team to under 20 pts and giving you great field position.
-
As long as he is showing a work ethic and growth, next year is off the table. Regardless of stats, he made winning plays yesterday. No turnovers, rushing for first downs and avoiding sacks isn't pretty, but it's winning football. All of those blitzes can make a young QBs head spin. I agree on the piss missiles, though. He needs to lay off on those heaters. Favre had to do the same thing. His brain will slow down as he sees it more.
-
I’m guessing they have him, Gordon and Edward’s back for the Eagles game.
-
If DET and CHI finished at 11-6 each, there is a good chance they both have the same Division record (3-3), Conference record (7-5), and record in common games (8-4), which would then move to the Strength of Victory criteria, which just based on their schedule, DET would more than likely win it. What sucks is you benefit from beating a good team, but are not penalized for losing to a bad team with Strength of Victory. For CHI to win the division outright, they will need to beat DET by at least one game on the season, which may be decided in Week 18. With GB having a tie, that takes all the tie breakers out of the equation. The easiest route to the Division is sweeping GB and beating DET. That would give the Bears a 4-2 DIV record and DET would end up at 3-3. They would then only need to win 1 game against PIT, CLE, SF, and PHI to finish 11-6. Win two of those and you more than likely win the division outright at 12-5, but it still would come down to Week 18. There is crazy scenario where the winner of Week 18 wins the Division, and the loser misses the playoffs (because of GB's tie).
