Cleveland game thread
Starting a new thread just to keep track of post game analysis on the new players. This surprised me mostly because I don’t recall having a Bears QB who the coach said doesn’t need more snaps to improve before the season starts Do I need to see Caleb Williams in the preseason? No, I do not. I see him every single day in practice," Johnson said, noting that Williams will be ready for Week 1 based on what he's seen during practice this summer.

2026 TalkBears Fantasy Football League
Live Draft set for Sunday, September 6 @ 7:00 pm CDT. If there are any issues with this date and time, I need to know by Aug 16th. Keeper deadline is Aug 23rd, that will give everyone two weeks with all the known keepers to set their pre-draft rankings.

Trapilo back sooner than expected
We have to give Poles credit for finding players . It has yet to happen, but prospects look good that this was a huge pickup. Last year he brought in DuShon Wright that was a huge add. He misses on 3 rd picks but has built this team. You cant take that away from him. He said when hired it would take 5 years. He is now in his fifth year. I think we could see a run to the SB, it may be a year away. It has done a great job. He will be remember for BJ and Caleb, not how many misses he had on draft picks. Its all about building the roster, and he did it his way.

That would be awesome. Wills is still young too. Between he and Braxton, we should be in OK shape, at minimum.

Trapilo back sooner than expected
We might find this to be a huge signing for the Bears. Wills in 2020, coming out of Alabama, was considered by many a blue-chip OLT. His injury set him back, even though he tried to play before he was fully recovered. Now, with the OL coaches we have, could he live up to his original expectations? Did we just sign a top-10, first-round OLT on the cheap, only to find he is the real deal?

Which explains why Ben Johnson is now touting the physical traits of Wills. Remember that last year the competition was simple: Best pass blocker at LT wins.

Thankfully Ben doesn’t apologize like this. It’s just preseason but I’m confident Ben wants to win big. https://www.nfl.com/news/browns-coach-todd-monken-apologizes-for-being-emotionally-hijacked-by-offense-s-penalties-during-training-camp

Between Webb, Charles Leno, and Braxton Jones, we sure have had some cringe moments from the LT position!

Those things matter but this is all I need to know.

For some reason, aside from Jason and me always arguing about the importance of linemen back then, the only thing that really sticks out to me is Cutler having to tie Webb’s shoe during a game. Otherwise yeah, a turnstile for sure.

Saw something on the socials about a recent injury report that listed a slew of players with concerning notes. This is not it but still a few players of note: We all know about Bryant, Gordon and Trapilo but the one on this list that concerns me is Burden. Heard about the collision but didn't know it was a groin injury. That's concerning due to that type injury can malinger for a long time. And really the only WR of late that I knew who played through it was DJ. And even then it affected his play. The other report had no ETA for Burden's return. Meanwhile on that report I saw that Sweat was listed as injured (nothing specified) but also had "no eta" listed for his return (??). Newly acquired Cam Lewis was reportedly "carted off" with a "serious leg" injury so with he, Stevenson and Gordon all out our CB depth is getting thin really fast. On the positive side I did see Monangai was back after having a "soft tissue" issue.

Lol! Aka: the turnstile

Jason's favorite Tackle of all time, J'Marcus Webb, eked out a 10 year NFL career with four of those as a starter. 😏

The only local press guy I have any trust in is Brad Biggs, he usually doesnt get caught up in rumors or at least checks out statements other pundits puts out there.

Trapilo back sooner than expected
I read where in coming back early , it gives him a chance to get some reps in. During the season when a player comes back , he doesnt get the same practice time in as TC. They are working on preping for the next game. It doesnt sound like he will be ready for the first game but means they probably keep him on the roster and may be available after a few weeks in. That all sounds good Bryant probably wont be playing all year. At least now we can add some bodies. Also heard where VDB could actually make the rotation on the DL. That would be a nice surprise for 6th round pick.

right - hes clearly got the body, his college film is great. But the narrative is that he got injured, but the truth is that he was flaming out before that. I saw some REALLY ugly Cleveland game tape on him. But hes young, and has the tools. It's not impossible for Roushar to find the dog in him again. But we are hearing he is inconsistent in camp too. Hes young, hes learning, but do we trust Caleb's blindside to him? Hard to say. Im rooting for him, but most reclamation LT projects dont work out. Then again, hes got the best possible coaching. Here's hoping...

Coby Bryant suffers knee injury - will miss 8-10 weeks
for sure. It feels like we are going to be dangerous this year, but more of a complete roster next year. I really wish we'd done more at DE. Yeah, maybe we will get him back in time for the playoffs?

Brutal - wish him all the best in his recovery!

Trapilo back sooner than expected
People starting to line up behind Wills: Wanny, Thayer, Harbor. Lots of NFL experience. None are saying he’s playing the best. Just saying he looks and plays the most like an NFL LT. We start to find out for ourselves this weekend.

I keep seeing 4 to 6 months which best case puts him on the field in December.

Come on now, Rome Odunze said he will be fine. Yes this sucks because we were excited to open up our new sports car once it was broken in, but back to the dealer it goes to get a new suspension.

Injuries are part of it. It sucks because we've never seen Bryant as a Bear, but it has to be next man up. Let's hope Xavier Woods has the goods.

i guess Thayer said today that he likes Wills out of the current crop of LTs. If he's better than Benedet, it's fine with me. As long as it isnt Braxton Jones.

Yeah these things are so unpredictable. On the one hand you have a guy like Trapilo who for all intents and purposes should be out for the rest of the year but may be coming back sooner. Then there's this injury, which at face value didn't seem too extreme. Now he's out for most of the year. Up to this point he'd been pretty durable. The other I'm concerned with is Burden. "Heard" his injury wasn't too bad but man it only takes one wrong twist or turn. I see the Bears signed Xavior Wooks in response to the Bryant injury. Maybe he'll have a "breakout year" under Dennis Allen much like Byard did last year?
