So I guess DJ Chark visited the Bears, and there is some interest in signing him. Chark is over 30, and he has had great seasons and not so great ones. One big advantage is that he has played in Ben Johnson's system before. I dont expect anything fast or soon, but it makes me wonder if DJ Moore might be in trouble int he next couple of years. It's interesting that the three players who mouthed off this year have all been addressed with depth. Cole Kmet and then Coltson Loveland DJ Moore and then Luther Burden, and possible Chark as a stop gap measure while Burden (who is a lot like Moore) comes up to speed Jaylon Johnson sitting out right now…

With the Bears finishing 5-12 last year makes it feel like a herculean effort to even get to a winning record at 9-8. However, turn arounds with much more wins are almost commonplace nowadays. Last year alone, 3 of the top 9 teams in the NFL all had a win differential of +6 from the previous season: WAS 4-13 > 12-5 (+8) MIN 7-10 > 14-3 (+7) LAC 5-12 > 11-6 (+6) I feel like there is less correlation from year to year than ever before. He missed mandatory camp and now he is starting training camp hurt with a non football injury. Hope it isn’t serious but I’m a little concerned his ego has gotten a bit too big - need to see him show that hunger. I know he wants a huge new deal just one year after signing. If he wants it - go out and crush it - go be an all pro db! Less talk - more production. Will be curious how BJ and Dennis Allen handle cause this could be a test of leadership - but hopefully it’s nothing.

We are in the quiet period of Bears talk since most beat writers are taking vacations while coaches and players are doing the same before camp. It is a good time to make your predictions on players who surprise or emerge in this new DA scheme. Let your imagination out and lets hear who your player is and some reasons why.

So I have seen media discussing the leap Goff took when he went from LA to DET. They have tried to project that same leap onto Williams this year. Now I can see using that as a starting point, but Williams is destined for a much bigger leap in my opinion. The gap between McVay and Waldron/Brown is massive. The fact that Johnson got something more out of Goff than McVay did should speak to how good of a coach and play caller he is. This is also evident by the down year Goff had in between McVay and Johnson with Anthony Lynn as OC in 2021.

There is a good chance that the Bears top 4 franchise receiving leaders are currently on the team. Johnny Morris is #1 in Receiving Yards with 5059. DJ would need 2.5 more years with his average numbers to surpass Morris as the franchise leader. Then you have Odunze, who as a first round pick will more than likely get a 2nd contract. If he gets one, and just say he puts up his rookie numbers annually, he would surpass Morris halfway thru Year 6. Then you have Loveland and Burden. I heard Adam Jahns on Silvy and Waddle today talking about how Ben Johnson has been vocal and exacting on the field with the team. If you didn't hear it, he recounted a story where Caleb got through 5 reads, and finally dumped it off to Roschon Johnson on a swing pass, and he got a first down, maybe closer to 15 years on the play. But Johnson wasn't happy. He watched Caleb go through the progression, and yelled "FASTER" at Caleb in the middle of the rep. These two videos popped up on my feed today and I thought in light of the draft picks and what we've seen and heard about in our practices it was good for me to get a sense of the vision for the offense. (If these have been posted before I couldn't find them) In both videos at times they talk about how effective Goff was using his RBs as outlets which immediately reminded me of the reports of Johnson yelling at Caleb "faster, faster" when he was late on the outlet to Roschon this week. Caleb is the starter. I am a huge fan of Tyson Bagent's as well. I think he is the backup. Case Keenum is here to provice Caleb with advice from his experience. So do we keep 3 QBs on the roster? If you put Bagent on the practice squad someone will steal him and make him QB2 somewhere. And Keenum is too old to even put on the PS. What do you think we will do? If we get a good trade offer for Bagent, then I understand that - but they JUST extended him, but I guess that also might help bring interest in a trade too... I think Bagent is a more valuable backup than Keenum, but is Keenum just for training camp?

. . . The Bears behind the scenes draft video this year. I’m assuming they do one because they do such a good job and they are really popular. But there’s so much speculation about the Bears getting sniped on their picks, like wanting Kelvin Banks or Treyveon Henderson, or Cam Skattebo. Are we going to be able to use Bright in the videos? Will they cut around it? Was it all fake news and it turns out they got guys they actually targeted? Eagerly waiting for it to drop.

This O-Line is now locked in for a few years. As long as they figure out who starts at LT (Jones/Trapilo), I like having this type of continuity.
