  1. I touched on this in another thread, but wanted to throw it out there. I think most here (though not all) would like to see us consider OL in the 1st round of the draft, particularly if one of the key OT prospects fall to us. But this is what is bothering me. If our two key FA signings before the draft are both OL (Omiyale & St. Clair) how likely is Angelo to then take an OT in the 1st round of the draft? IMHO, signing Omiyale and St. Clair does nothing to take away from our needs on the OL. Both are solid depth, and players I would not mind in a competition for a starting job, but neither are players I want to enter camp as the set starters. Yet if we…

Chicago Bears must pursue Terrell Owens now! Forget all the lame excuses, wide receiver a no-brainer Rick Morrissey | In the wake of the news 4:16 PM CST, March 5, 2009 The sports talk shows in town were hyperventilating Thursday over what appeared to be one of the great debates of our time: Should the Bears pursue Terrell Owens? This is some sort of trick question, right? If the Bears had two or three halfway decent receivers, this might be a discussion. If the Bears had an offense that was the envy of the NFL we might be talking about whether it's prudent to bring in a problem child like T.O. If Kyle Orton's steady hand at the tiller was such that he…

  4. I participated in a 4 round mock draft with our old affiliation (www.nflfans.com) this morning. Pretty much every team had a representative, no trades, and we went straight through in about 2 1/2 hours. Things did not go at all as I had expected them to, so I thought I would share my picks, my thoughts, and the full results: 1) Mark Sanchez, QB, USC - I was truly unprepared for Sanchez to be here and had been preparing to take a WR. But Maclin went right before my pick and all the next WRs batch (DHB, Britt, Nicks, Robiskie, Harvin) were still on the board. Knowing that our back-up QB is currenly Hanie, not being sold on Orton, and hoping that I could at least get Ro…

I know we like St. Clair, but we do like OT's with bad backs. This was from PFT: BARNES WON’T BE A RAIDER, AFTER ALL Posted by Mike Florio on March 7, 2009, 9:50 a.m. So much for those reports that free-agent tackle Khalif Barnes was set to sign with the Oakland Raiders. According to the San Francisco Chronicle and other publications, the deal has fallen apart. Per David White of the Chronicle, all talks between Barnes’ agent, Kenny Zuckerman, and the Raiders are now off. Barnes is now close to signing with an undisclosed team. As White points out, the collapse of the deal could push the Raiders back to free-agent tackle Marvel Smith of the Stee…

I like to think we're not going to wait until after the draft to just sign players off the scrap-heap. Here's some guys who are still available I hope like hell we're thinking about trying to sign: Byron Leftwich: What the heck happened to him anyway? He was supposed to be the best free agent quarterback available, and I haven't even heard a rumor about him other then he might resign with Pittsburgh. He's proven he's a good back-up and he'd definitely keep Orton on his toes. Khalif Barnes: At 26 years old, he could be our starting RT for the next 6 years. I'd like to sign him AND St. Clair. Jared Page: At 6-0, 220 lbs, he's considered a big free s…

  8. Looking at the end of the first round, there are several teams that might go WR...and that could cause a run on WRs that screws the Bears out of at least an option to take a second-tier WR with their second pick. TB - They really need a WR badly. Detroit - All jokes aside, they STILL need another WR. Someone to compliment Calvin Philly- How many years will they need weapons for McNabb? Minny-Berrian is their #1, but Rice and Wade aren't that impressive. NE - Nope. They're good. Atlanta - Need a compliment to Roddy White, and Jenkins isn't that great Miami - Ginn is still not great...need more weapons Baltimore - Always a need Indianapolis - Marvin's…

    1. Eben Britton, OT, Arizona ---IMO, he fits our scheme perfectly. St Clair still hasn't re-signed and is bad in the run game. 2. Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers ---A possession WR who is a perfect compliment to Hester. 3. Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Stillman ---A massive NT who knows how to get to the QB. 3. Phillip Hunt, DE, Houston ---Has a nose for the QB. 4. Troy Nolan, FS, Arizona State ---Big safety who has a nose for the ball and knows what to do when he gets the ball (3 TD's this past year). 5. Louis Vazquez, OG, Texas Tech ---He could go earlier, but Vazquez had a great combine with, I believe, the most reps of anyone. 6. Austin Collie, WR, BYU ---Re…

Hey, I have recently uploaded my highlight tape of my senior year in football onto youtube and I wanted to post it here. I just want to here what all the amateur scouts here think of it. I hope you don't mind me posting it in this section, but this is where all the trafic is... I recommed going to the youtube link to view it, but you don't have to. It's just that the video is bigger and easy to spot me at youtube. Also, make sure you hit the HQ button at the bottom right, as it does make a big difference. EDIT: For some reason I can't get the video to post on here, so you have to go to the link, sorry.

  11. Even in offseason, it's a marathon not a sprint I was surprised the Bears were not listed as one of the five teams who have been very quiet in FA. Instead it centered on GBP, MIN, SDC, KCC & ATL. Still, it is interesting that the article sort of supports JA's approach to FA. I have no doubt our needs will be addressed. There are a good number of players who will be signing on the cheap who will be good additions. JA like many are just unwilling to overpay for a FA that once he gets his fat check will disappear. Once we have our March mini camp (when is it?) and evaluate our team, see who we pick up in the draft, we will make the necessary moves. Also let's…

This is a mock looking at team needs after FA signings as of Monday. We have a good shot at either Andre Smith OT or MIchael Oher OT and then a good chance Robiskie/Nicks is available at RD2. Some guys I have higher than other mocks, but I'm thinking some teams may reach a little to fill the need. ROUND 1 01 Detroit...........Matt Stafford QB I have a feeling Detroit is spinning right now not knowing which way to go, they can gamble Sanchez will be there at 20 or hope a OT is there. I have them taking Stafford, b/c you can't gamble a QB will be available further down Team needs: QB, MLB, OLB, OT, SS Options: Aaron Curry LB, Eugene Monroe OT, J…

It seems like everyone is waiting for Holt to be released, which is most likely to happen soon. As I understand it, he is due to receive about $1.5m in bonus money on 3/17, and Stl is expected to cut him prior to that, but should we wait? The top reason he has not drawn trade intest is his contract. I think his 2009 base salary is in the neighborhood of $6.5m, and when you add the bonus, his salary/cap hit for 2009 is quite high. This has prevented teams for looking to trade for him, even though Stl is reportely only looking for a mid/late day two pick in return. But I am reading about more and more teams who are interested in him, and will likely make a ru…

  15. Up until now, most all the talk has been surrounding the top 4 OTs in the draft. Britton seemed like an after-thought. But his stock seems to be on the rise, and I am not sure how much, if at all, he would be considered a reach at 18 now. Assuming the top 4 are gone, should Britton be a consideration? Reading up on Britton was pretty interesting. As I can tell, there are two key knocks on him. (a) He comes from a spread offense, but I would argue that more and more teams are using this, and you can not dismiss players from the spread offenses. They may require more evaluation, but w/ so many colleges using spread systems, you have to still look at them. …

Remember when we signed Phillip Daniels, and he got something like $8m SB, and that was considered top tier money at the time? Today, that is a tad more than we have given an OL who has started one game in the last 4 years, w/ two different teams. In the last few days, I have been discussing FA w/ some friends, and in those discussions, I came to realize something. We all had been shocked in the last couple years at the deals FAs have been signing. The idea of giving X of dollars to some average player was simply shocking. To me, the money given to average/just above average players has been even more shocking than money given to big ticket players, who have alwa…

On either of these guys. I have been out of the NFL loop lately and recently heard that Cutler has been in an on again, off again situation with his new HC McDaniels(?) and recently is in a definite off again frame of mind? And, over in Philly I hear again the rumblings of McNabb possibly entertaining the idea of going elsewhere, especially with the recent loss of Tra Thomas (and other key players before). With either of these guys as potential(s) is there a possiblity of either coming to Chicago? I hear that both would be interested if the situation arose. If I had to choose, as much as I like McNabb, I think Cutler would be the better choice of the two …
