Bears | Close to a contract with Gilbert Comment (0) Thu, 04 Jun 2009 19:31:10 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears are close to a contract with DT Jarron Gilbert. Gilbert's agent, Frank Bauer, visited practice Wednesday, June 3, and spent must of the time talking with general manager Jerry Angelo and college scouting director Greg Gabriel. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bears | No concern Forte's injury is serious Comment (0) Thu, 04 Jun 2009 19:30:55 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte (hamstring) could…

There's been a lot made recently of the available free agent wide receivers. They each have their problems, obviously, but those have been pretty well discussed at this point. I wanted to start a different thread to discuss some trade options the Bears might pursue, if they determine our current options across from Hester aren't going to cut it. I'm not talking about guys who might be available for a blockbuster trade, like Braylon Edwards or Anquan Boldin. There are a number of receivers around the league who aren't street free agents, but could be available pretty cheaply via trade. If all it takes is a conditional second-day pick to get a guy, I think that's…

  4. This is all from Jeff Dickerson at ESPN Chicago. I went ahead and combined the rookie and vet lists: Stock Up Craig Steltz -- The former fourth round pick appears to have the inside track to start at either of the safety spots. On the surface, Steltz seems to lack the speed to cover the deep middle of the field, but coaches feel Steltz possesses the necessary athleticism to play outside or inside in the box. As we've stated before, only time will tell if that assessment is accurate, but for now, Steltz ranks very high in the secondary hierarchy. It also doesn't hurt to have the support of the front office. Israel Idonije -- Now that Idonije received his co…

  5. McNair helped Cutler prepare for the NFL Posted by Mike Florio on July 9, 2009 9:30 AM If quarterback Jay Cutler becomes the first true franchise quarterback the Bears have had since Sid Luckman, Chicago fans will owe a partial debt of gratitude to the late Steve McNair. Cutler says that McNair went out of his way to help the former Vanderbilt standout prepare for his official debut for NFL scouts. Specifically, McNair helped Cutler get ready for his time at the Senior Bowl, and it was during the week of practice sessions that Cutler accelerated a draft-board climb that stopped at No. 11 overall. McNair's assistance was particularly useful because Cutl…

http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2009/07/19...ball_outsi.html For all you stat guys out there. I like the way these guys look at stats. It has a link within the article for the entire book if anyone is interested. I'm going to start trying to digest it. It looks as though it may be a good FF tool as well. They are going to post more articles on this later.

Yesterday I listened to Lovie's press conference: http://www.chicagobears.com/multimedia/mul...lip=Y&rn=17 and when he was talking about the WRs (5min mark) he suddenly stopped and said "he's excited to see what Greg Olsen can do in his new role, and his role is changing." Lovie usually doesn't say anything beyond his usual cliches so for him to go out of his way to mention Olsen like this means there is something to it. What is his new role? Anyone heard about this? Anyone seeing anything at camp? From the Trib video all I've seen so far was that he lined up wide, outside the WR, on one play. Not sure if that means much as he lined up some at WR…

'95 & '09: Kramer vs. Cutler I have always liked Kramer, as a QB, and after his career in his work with the media. He has never been a "homer" and has shown excellent abilities to analyze a player and team. He isn't full of sh** like many who have written Cutler off as one who throws too many near INTs & other such crap. I like this article a lot. It admits our possible weakness at WR but also admits we might have a lot of good weapons for Cutler. It also gives excellent reviews of Cutlers strengths & weaknesses. Definitely worth reading.

http://www.chicitysports.com/2009/08/07/he...centrate-on-wr/ Devin Hester isn't going to be returning kicks any longer (kicks) so he can concentrate on WR. How do you think that's going to turn out? He had 51 catches, 650 yards+, 3 TD's in his first season at WR with Orton. I expect him to do better with Cutler.

This video will pump you up and has a good overview of an intense practice session. Take note that this team is on a mission as they bring it in after practice with the familiar chant from 2006 1..2..3.."MIAMI"! I think we are in for a special season and should be able to match up with anyone in the NFC. Reaching the Superbowl in Miami is not out of the realm of possibilites. http://www.chicagobears.com/multimedia/mul...lip=Y&rn=11

Eric Berry, fantasy guru, was just on ESPN FT and said that Hester is the biggest sleeper in FF this year. He led the Bears in times targeted last year, and had 8+ FF points in 4 of the Bears last 6 games. I agree with him. I'll be laughing by season's end when Hester is a 1100 yard receiver and I get him in round 10.

Snap to it: Whereas fumbled snaps seemed to be a regular occurrence during the Rex Grossman Era, there has yet to be a bad exchange between Cutler and Kreutz. "There's always going to be some of those, no matter how long you've played," Kreutz said. "But Jay does everything well -- and that includes taking a snap."

It's just the first preseason game... We were vanilla... Had our two top offensive weapons out... Tommie didn't play... Saw a lot of things I liked... Gotta tackle better... The secondary is a concern... Jay's a gunslinger... I could've written this same postgame script after the first preseason game of all the Lovie Smith seasons. They always look like shit this early in camp. And he'll say "Of course" about 17 times in 10 minutes.
