http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Ag9c...o&type=lgns INDIANAPOLIS – Eyeing the free agent bloodbath on the horizon, Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo preached “sobriety in the marketplace” – the act of keeping your head, spending money wisely, and not corrupting prices in the NFL’s free agent period. “Because you have the money,” Angelo said, “doesn’t mean you have to spend all the money.” In a way, it sounded like a verbal white flag from the team most likely to get raided when free agency begins on Friday. Of all the years to allow talented free agents to get to the open market, Chicago gambled and stumbled upon the worst. A solid period …

  2. Was it the year Thomas Jones & the Medicine woman signed on opening day? I believe Moose signed before FA even started. I mainly ask, because every year during this weekend, I'm glued to the Radio & computer waiting to hear big news, and it never happens.

Slim pickings now. With Walker and Gafney gone, here is what is left: Bryan Johnson (looks like Buffalo or Washington) Reche Caldwell Drew Carter DJ Hackett Marty Booker Robert Ferguson (if we are desperate) Brandon Lloyd (would need to be a minimum contract - not sure what he brings to us) I wonder how much longer JA is going to wait to jump in. We cannot go into the draft with the 5 receivers we have now. Peace

Caught this from the Sun Times Briggs' deal has protection for team after 2009 The Bears have never had issue with the performance Lance Briggs has provided on the field. Ultimately, it’s why general manager Jerry Angelo said at the combine that he did not have a problem investing in the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker long term as a core player after he earned more than $7.2 million last season with the franchise tag.... But they’ve also protected themselves in the future. Briggs’ $3.3 million roster bonus for 2010—the final roster bonus in the deal—does not come due until June 10 of that year. That’s three months after most roster bonuses are paid at or near …

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-t...o&type=lgns 14. Chicago Bears – Adrian Peterson. "Let me get this straight," general manager Jerry Angelo says. "You mean I can end this Cedric Benson charade and draft the other Adrian Peterson?" When coach Lovie Smith nods yes, Angelo launches into a 30-second spurt of Dr. Evil-style laughter. Benson then bursts into the war room, screaming "I knew you guys were out to get me."

Per the Tribune and Pro Football Talk, Urlacher is saying that the report in the Sun-Times is false. He stated that he never threatened to quit or be traded,a nd that he wants to stay in Chicago. He also said that the Bears have offered a one-year extension and that his agents are great and working on a deal for him. He also stated that his neck and back are feeling fine and that he is rehabbing well.

I posted this in the pinned thread. I sent emails to an admin about this but no response so I will post link here: Bearstalk.com Chat Room Still works, we need not to go running to another forum to use their chat room when we already have our own. For some reason it just has not been linked on this site. Maybe my email system is malfunctioning? Maybe a spam filter is snagging my communications? I do not know, but it is frustrating.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...-bear22.article Expect the air to be thick with lies as Angelo talks about how his top three Bears needs are TE, DE, and CB and how intriguing a trade for Chad Johnson is. It will be interesting to hear to what degree he addresses the various contract issues that seem to be cropping up (Urlacher, Hester, etc).

Nolan Nawrocki, Pro Football Weekly: With the versatile Branden Albert still available, it's a surprise that the Bears would pass him, especially given the multiple holes that exist on their offensive line. However, Chris Williams has great feet and athletic ability and is very smart. He should allow John Tait to move back to the ORT position that he played in Kansas City. One pitfall that could eventually sting, however, is that the Bears now have two short-armed edge protectors and have to worry about both being injured, given that Williams was removed from some draft boards for back concerns and Tait is well-aged. Williams lacks the killer instinct, tenacity and n…

  16. IMdO, JA REALLY #%@$&!!! screwed this draft from the Fourth Pick on. Marcus Harrison in the Third?!? Character concerns, Injuries, and "a problem at times in the locker room (the staff questioned his toughness, as he would not give full effort when hurt and while trying to become a leader, he failed to live by example and spent more time yelling at teammates rather than mentoring them)" Furthermore, how many NTs does this team need? What about trying to find another 3 technique before Tommie leaves or gets hurt again? Both Carlton Powell AND DeMario Pressley lasted until the Fifth round. Sorry JA, but, with the way the O-Line played l…

People are getting really worked up about the draft and the Bears relative inactivity in free agency, but don't forget, June 1st salary cuts are around the corner, and I expect JA to look long and hard at some guys cut at OG, QB, DT, WR, RB, and S. Remember, the season isn't over yet.

It's an old article about both Kevin Smith and Matt Forte, but it does state why I think the Bears regarded Forte so high. Forte, Smith have taken similar paths to stardom What makes Forte's production so impressive is that Forte was Tulane's only weapon last year.
