Nolan Nawrocki, Pro Football Weekly: With the versatile Branden Albert still available, it's a surprise that the Bears would pass him, especially given the multiple holes that exist on their offensive line. However, Chris Williams has great feet and athletic ability and is very smart. He should allow John Tait to move back to the ORT position that he played in Kansas City. One pitfall that could eventually sting, however, is that the Bears now have two short-armed edge protectors and have to worry about both being injured, given that Williams was removed from some draft boards for back concerns and Tait is well-aged. Williams lacks the killer instinct, tenacity and n…

I guess word locally is that Chris Williams is the Bears pick. (espnradio1000 radioshow host Dan McNeil said his sources inside halas told him) BUt then i see this http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDr.../wwhi042308.htm The greatest need of the Texans, at No. 18, is a left tackle, and Vanderbilt’s Chris Williams could be available. The way we hear it, concerns about the variations in the size of Williams’ arms and legs, with one being shorter than the opposite limb, could affect his status. Furthermore, multiple team sources say he has been removed from consideration on their draft boards for medical reasons, which could play into the Texans’ favor. …

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THE DRAFT Twas the night before the draft, when all through this board, not a member was stirring, not even Terra Tor. The players were slotted by the war room with care, in hope that the football gods would answer our prayers. The TalkBear alums were nestled all snug in there beds, while visions of Sweetness danced in there heads. And Jerry in his briefs, and Lovie in his cap, had just settled down for a few hours nap. When out of Halas Hall arose from a clatter, Jerry and Lovie sprang out of bed to see what was the matter. Away to the door they flew like a flash, turned off the alarm and removed the latch. The reflection of the moon on t…

No. 14: Bears - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois Rashard Mendenhall may just be the best running back in the draft. (Doug Pensinger / Getty Images) The Monsters of the Midway need to rebuild an aging and ineffective offensive line, so they're disappointed to see both Ryan Clady and Chris Williams off the board. Even though GM Jerry Angelo drafted Cedric Benson at No. 4 overall just three years ago, this running game is in need of a major boost. Mendenhall is a local product who starred at Niles West High School, and his presence will allow offensive coordinator Ron Turner to get back to the two-pronged ground game that was so successful in 2006 with Benson and t…

I do not post many mocks, but Gosselin is well known to be tops when it comes to his mocks. He has had a fe prior, but I was waiting for him to release his final mock, which he did today. Couple picks that would shock me, and I don't think he is calling for many/any trades. I do sure like who he has us taking http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...p.9e92cfd4.html Some surprises and of interest picks KC taking Williams at 5. I have heard before KC questions Clady's fit, so I guess it is "possible" they grade Williams ahead of Clady and Albert, but I have to think KC is going to trade down. NE taking Ellis. I have heard others mention this, a…

they would do it cause most likely covet Devin thomas, and could get him @ 14, we would do it to get 1st shot at OT like albert or clady before panthers/broncos. plus bills and bears have good relationship.

I still hope the NFL does something with this (at least fine him). He's a drill rod and needs to be put in his place. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-08...1,1524922.story Peace

Since Lawrence Holmes is one of the few Chicago guys I really trust when it comes to the Bears, I made it a point to catch him this afternoon on 670. He says: -Word behind closed doors is that Benson's injury is worse than everyone thought and while he doesn't know if it means the Bears look harder at RB in the first, he says don't be suprised if the Bears are looking for a 3-down back instead of what would be a complement to what Benson would (at least theoretically) be. He did say the Bears really like Ray Rice. -He doesn't buy any of the "Bears are looking to move up" talk. -He says for all the attention on Jeff Otah in the first, the Bears may be even m…

The Bengals had Derrick Harvey as "their guy" at No. 9 as of late this week, but have since changed to Sedrick Ellis, according to FOXSports' Jay Glazer. Maybe the Dewayne Robertson trade to Denver changed Cincinnati's mind. Of course, this is just more pre-draft chatter to take with a grain of salt. Glazer notes that the Bengals "also like (Illinois RB) Rashard Mendenhall."

W/ the draft so close, I wanted to take a fresh look at the OL. Here is my board. 1. Albert - I have him ahead of Clady, but ask me again tomorrow, and it could change. They are that close. While I think Clady has the most potential to start right away at LT, I simply think Albert is going to be a stud somewhere on the OL. IMHO, he has a ceiling of being a Walter Jones at LT, and a floor of Ruben Brown at OG. If we had no need for OG, I might edge Clady, but we need to hit on our 1st pick, and Albert is as close to a sure thing IMHO as any. 2. Clady is next, by a hair. In Clady, you have a prototypical LT prospect who might be able to start at LT as a roo…

Found this doing my usual rumor check... http://boards.chicagobears.com/forums/thread/979785.aspx Not from pick 14, but to pick 27 with the Chargers. Obviously we would not trade down with them due to the fact the Chargers only have one pick in the first 3 rounds. Any trade would either be our 44th pick and first 3rd rounder; or 44, our second 3rd rounder, and another little something, perhaps a future pick.

I am tired of these players not wanting to play under the contracts they signed, and am ready to deal w/ the situation. Urlacher - NO desperatly wants to upgrade at LB, and has even been talked about trading up in this weak LB draft to get Rivers. Instead, we offer them one of the best LBs in the game. NO sends us their 1st (10th overall) and 3rd. Harris - Cincy needs a DT in the worst way, and is also talking about trading up as Ellis may not fall to them, and the dropoff after Ellis is deep. Cindy sends us their 1st (9th overall) and 3rd (they have two). Hester - Yes, that is right. I am going to deal the windy city flier. I do not think his value wi…

Cameron Worrell was released from the dolphins. I say give him a minimum vet contract and we could have our s/t ace back, and some depth at S. He also know's our system as far as s/t's play.
