Earl Bennett probably just got a lot better too.
-
Sonofab*tch...they got it done. And it was exactly the deal I kept typing.
-
DB^2, consider yourself on the clock. The threads will be posted at some point before the end of the day PST.
-
If I can fill up Tampa Bay I'll endeavor to put together the draft threads today and send out the "we're starting" PM's. I'll be flexible about the "on-the-clock" time at first.

Campbell may not be a top 5 QB in the league, but I think he'd be more than serviceable and a strong improvement over what the Bears threw out there last year. Let's look at his numbers last year. 3245 yards, 62.3% Completion, 13 TD, 6 INT, 84.3 QB rating. Orton, for example, put up a 79.3 rating, so just in that category it's a small upgrade, but Campbell's stats are interesting in that the reason his rating is so low is that he didn't get many TD's. He was well above the solid 60% ish line in completion %age, which is a good start. But, he was also tied for 4th in the league with 38 sacks last year. Some of that may be that he's just not very mobile, but some of that likely comes on the performance of their O-line as well. Campbell's had basically a new offense every year, and his stats last year argue that the run heavy west coast offense they were trying to run in Washington could have kept his completion %age up a bit but also kept down his TD's and long passes. I'm not sure how good he'll be, I'm not sure how good Orton will be, but I think the Bears would be in good shape if they had both of them.

Anyone want Tampa Bay or Dallas?
-
2 draft picks (either this year's 1st and 2nd or this and next year's first) and Orton.
-
I grabbed a couple other teams but am willing to switch if anyone wants them. Teams still available: Saints Jets Bucs Falcons Steelers Cowboys (no 1st rounder)
-
Holt was officially released nearly 3 weeks ago. He had a roster bonus due mid-march that the Rams didn't want to pay.
-
Maybe his back is healing while he's getting those splinters. Random thought, any chance Pace would fit decently at the RT spot?
-
If Tommie Harris was anywhere near how he was playing before he was hurt that'd be a debacle. But now...
-
Pix, my last sets of back-to-back ones are the Browns/Bengals or the Redskins/Saints. We're getting closer to full.
-
If Detroit is going to offer the # 1 pick, you can't beat them in terms of total value on the draft charts. If I were Denver though, I really don't know if I'd want that pick.
-
The Giants might have a need of a WR. The 2nd round class is solid so I doubt they would, but they could really like one of the top guys.
-
So far, I count 18 teams remaining including Dallas, MadLithuanian has 4 others he'd do, the prophet was interested in 3, Pix asked for 2 potentially back to back ones, and I can take another pick or two. That's about 10-11 wild cards remaining that I can dispense, but we still have slots to fill up even if all of those were assigned.
-
Ok, post #1 is updated with the ones people have completely confirmed, except both Madlith and Jason suggested they'd do the 49ers, so it would be nice if one of you 2 would defer. Those who've said they're interested, just fire away with a team if you have any preference at all. I put madlith down for 2 other teams but he's suggested he could do more.
-
And thanks to a randomly selected number in Microsoft Excel, the winner of the Bears this year is Madlithuanian.
-
The only 2 people who have specifically stated they want the Bears are Madlithuanian and Ashkum Bear, is that correct?
-
It looks like we have need of more people. I'll be on the lottery later today, just getting back in the swing of things.

Hi everyone! Last year's Talkbears mock draft was enjoyable enough for me that I figured WTH, I'll do it again. I'm open to formatting suggestions, but here's a basic outline. Each participant picks a team, or multiple teams if you'd like. From the moment we start, you're the GM. You want to trade picks, you want to bring Cutler to the Bears, whatever you want to do, do it. (2009 picks traded in the 2008 Talkbears Mock Draft do not count ). My goal is to start the draft process on Monday, March 30th, give or take. This gives us a little more time before the draft than we had last year, so we can push it longer if we want, and we won't be in a rush to get everyone to pick rapidly to finish before the draft. That means that every team will need to be filled before then. When your team goes on the clock, you'll have 24 hours to make your pick otherwise we start getting annoyed and sending you lots of PM's and such. Since this is a Bears site, it's somewhat expected that the Bears will be a team in demand. Therefore, we'll hold a raffle for them based on a standard random number generator. If you're interested in being the Bears, please explicitly say so in this thread and you'll be entered in to the lottery when it's run. Otherwise, please request whatever team you'd like to GM for in this thread. I'm going to be out of town next week, which is why I'm posting this today. A couple of the other Mods/admins have said they'll keep my list updated/handle any disagreements while I'm gone. If someone requests a team that you'd really really like, other than the Bears...hope we can find some way to work things out, there'll probably be a couple extra teams available. Here's your first round draft order, and this list will be updated with your name once you grab a team: 1. Detroit Lions - Dabearsdabomb 2. St. Louis Rams - Brianbear 3. Kansas City Chiefs - bowlingtwig 4. Seattle Seahawks - jason 5. Cleveland Browns - Pixote 6. Cincinnati Bengals - Pixote 7. Oakland Raiders - The Prophet 8. Jacksonville Jaguars - Balta1701 9. Green Bay Packers - bowlingtwig 10. San Francisco 49ers - Madlithuanian 11. Buffalo Bills - Balta1701 12. Denver Broncos - Stinger226 13. Washington Redskins - Chitownhustla 14. A sack producing DE is really considered the most important position on a defense? I dunno, I guess it can be (Thinking about the Giants) but my instinct says that it's heavily dependent on the ability of the other people on the line. It's hard to point at 1 specific spot and say it's always the most important position.
-
Another issue is that WR is a position where developing a solid one even after drafting them takes a couple of seasons. If you're looking to win next year, an O-Lineman is much more likely to be ready to step in and contribute on day one. Even a first round WR is likely to wind up in the Bennett situation from last year, spending a lot of time on the bench because there's so much more he needs to learn to be effective at that position.
-
Cleveland does not have a 3rd round pick; they sent it to Dallas.
-
Here's an interesting SI read on how Cutler shares an agent with other guys like Favre, McNair, who managed to work their way out of situations they didn't want to be in.
