The Bears aren't exactly hurting for cap space right now, and need a WR who can at least be able to be a solid possession receiver, even if he's not a deep threat. Totally go the Rams, offer them a 5th rounder or something like that, and see if you can get your hands on him to offer him a contract before he's released.
-
I doubt he'll push it to 18, but especially if a team like the Raiders winds up with T.O., the team picking #4 no longer needs a #1 wideout (Seattle), it's entirely possible he'll slip to somewhere in the neighborhood of 10.
-
Fairly simple question. Assume the contracts are favorable, assume Lovie, Orton, Turner meet with him and decide things are ok, assume whatever other details you want that would make the situation positive. In that case, would you want T.O. on the Bears?

How important is the SS in pass coverage in a cover 2 system? (Honestly don't know)
-
How many players around the league on each team would you give up a 1st round pick for straight-up? How does that compare to the total # of first round picks?
-
The Bears used closer to every cent of their cap room in 2008 than any other team in the league. A big part of the reason why the Bears have cap space this year is that they were so effective in using every cent of their cap room the last couple years to get guys extended. The money may have been there, but it was used elsewhere to good effect. If you want to give that money to Berrian, you get to pick which guys the Bears shouldn't have extended: Urlacher, Hester, Harris, Briggs.
-
The Redskins were also 28th in the league in total sacks (the Bears were 22nd). If you only have 1 guy who's a threat and you can't generate pressure from the other guys, your one guy who's a threat faces double teams and a RB and really can't do much. I can't say for certain this happened to Taylor without watching the video. But you put Reggie White on a team with no other pass rush threat and he isn't doing that much because of the wall of men in front of him.

The Chiefs' second rounder is going to be at the very start of the 2nd right? Almost where a late first sits. It'd have taken more the Bears' 2nd rounder to beat that. 2nd and a 3rd, or maybe even just the Bears's first rounder for it.
-
Because no GM is stupid enough to spill their cards in that fashion. Take note...we heard absolutely nothing about how the Bears were unhappy with Garza until they managed to beat out the offers for reportedly 10 other teams to sign a guy that Angelo thinks can push Garza to a backup role.
-
I can't imagine the Chiefs being stupid enough to give up pick #3 for him, but yes, you did.
-
With the cap implications of getting Cassell making it so there's virtually no cap related benefit to that trade for KC, that'd be mind-boggling. It'd have to be like the Pats next 3 first round picks to make it worth it.

I really don't know who all the Bears have talked to, but with the number of available veteran receivers, they're out of their minds if they don't bring one in. Housh is not necessarily the best use of their money. But if the other, older guys are looking for similar dollars or are less available, then he ought to be on the list. There's just no way the Bears are going to find the receiver they need for this season in the draft or on their current roster. Not with the time it takes to develop receivers.

Taylor signs with the Pats.

$41 million in guarantees for him, $32 million of it within the first 14 months.

I concur. The Bears covered their backup needs here. In the event of a major injury, of the sort that you can't deal with, the Bears have some insurance. Now the Bears need to target another front line guy either with their top pick or with their remaining cap space

At some point I'll set up and run another full board Mock Draft if we can get the people, and then we can see who drops for us. I just thought it was too soon, what with the Combine just finishing and FA just starting.
-
It's a little iffy. There's some question as to his motivation last year (for example, he was sucking one game early in the season, they benched him for a quarter and he came out and played quite well afterwards) and the Bills are cutting him for a reason (supposedly him not fitting well with their "Scheme", read what you will in to that). So, short answer yes with an if, long answer no with a but.
-
The Bills are cutting ties with OG Derrick Dockery, who they signed to a $49 million deal with $18.5 guaranteed only 2 years ago. The last contract he signed was, at the time, the biggest contract a Guard had gotten (pretty sure Faneca passed him).

Really, given the Bears's needs at WR and the fact that the Bears have ample cap space, overpaying for Holt or Coles isn't the worst option I've ever heard either. The Bears can't fill every hole through the draft. No one drafts that well. But if they pick up 2 or so FA additions, hold on to St. Clair, and have a good draft, then the team could on paper be in excellent shape.
-
Seriously, with the # of solid, veteran receivers hitting the market and the amount of cap space the Bears have to play with, there really shouldn't be an excuse.
-
The Colts will grant his release.
-
It's also possible the market for those positions has fundamentally shifted, with the kind of money teams have been throwing at O-Linemen in the past couple years (Bentley, Faneca, Gross, Hutchinson, Long, etc.)

How about we put it this way...if Wolfe is the only backup, and the coaching staff has already made the decision to consign him to the bench and special teams, then the Bears absolutely need someone to take the load off of Forte. I can't speak to the coaching staff's decision on Wolfe. I'll agree that sending him up the middle in a goalline situation is fairly stupid, that they haven't even really tried to see if he's going to be effective. If they're willing to try that, then there are better uses of cap space or picks than on a backup RB when the team already has Wolfe and Peterson. But if they're not going to try, if they don't like what he brings to the table, then someone else has to come in.

Here's my one question with Harrison. We saw with Moose exactly what going from a solid WR system with alternate options to a crappy WR system to a solid WR system can do for a player. There quite simply is no better QB/WR/Offense system in the NFL than the one running in Indianapolis. Could being put in the wrong situation take a guy like Harrison who is still productive in Indy an turn him nearly useless in Chicago?
