The Bears have supposedly at least talked to him but the Bears have little to no money left to spend for this year, as discussed above. Several teams are waiting while he "tests the market", including both the Rams and Lions.

Unfortunately, there's a big potential stumbling block for any attempt to move salary onto the 2011 numbers; a lockout. No player is going to want to sign a contract that includes a lot of money in 2011 but less in 2010 on the chance that there won't be a paycheck in 2011 anyway.

Bumping one of the older Atogwe threads here.

Of course...one big issue in there is the potential lockout for his final season. Which is, of course, why I asked. What do you do if there's only 1 season to judge him on?

When does Lovie's contract end?

A note from why the other side did this deal: -

This fact struck me yesterday. Compared with the worst portion of last season, the Bears are going to be looking at having overturned at least 6 starters on the defensive side of the ball, maybe more depending on how you count them. 2 new safeties, 2 new linebackers, 2 new defensive ends. Probably a new "Nickel" back, maybe a new cornerback, maybe a new nosetackle, depending on how you want to classify everyone. -
Sometimes a spammer does get through. Any time y'all see something like that in a thread or receive a PM like that, let an admin know and we'll deal with it.

Given all the connections between him and the org there and the fact that they are 1 year removed from a super bowl, I think that even if the Bears had come in with more money, he'd probably have gone to Arizona.

Is Iglesias already a cut candidate?

Bears saved 20.5 million by not having a 1st or 2nd pick

There's 1 thing the Union doesn't want to do though...and that's to get a rookie pay scale without getting the money being spent on rookies transferred to the players currently playing. If teams just pocket the money that was going to rookies, the Union is decidedly unhappy. -

Part of the reason for that is the depth of the rosters though. In the NFL, you've got a 53 man roster, and there are probably teams who use nearly all of those guys in a game if they need the backup QB. The "practice squad" is limited, and other teams can grab players you try to put on there. Basically, there's very little room to keep developmental guys on the roster without crowding out guys you actually need. In the NBA, you have a 12 man active roster, and very few teams go 10 deep in a game unless it's a blowout. Then, you have 3 additional roster spots. All of those, you can use to keep extra people on your list for development or as a player/coach or as a backup in case of multiple injuries. Then you throw in the NBDL on top of that. If a player takes 2-3 years to develop in the NFL...you're dumping him because you can't afford the roster spot. -
Mel Kiper said this guy would have been the #4 QB on his board based on talent/athletic ability, but he needs a lot of work on his fundamentals. Nothing wrong with grabbing that in the 6th and sticking him on the bench for a couple years.

I think I'm going to call this one this year for lack of interest. -

Still about 20 picks to fill. That's a lot. We need more interested if we're going to pull this off this year. -
He's a FA this offseason, he's suspended for the first 4 games of the season for substance abuse issues, and the Steelers clearly wanted to send a message to other players on their roster (most people seem to think they could have gotten a better deal if they wanted).

Well, we're up to 8 teams taken. I'll obviously take on extras but I'm not doing so until the end, that way I can fill the "Whatever is left" role. Can we get 5+ more volunteers then we start bugging people to pick up other teams? -

And bump again...anybody else? We're going to need at least 2x this number of people before I can start bugging folks to take on extra teams. -
May have been BS he was released (for performance/money reasons), but Brown was by no means a franchise legend of the sort that you hold onto out of sentiment.

Hi Folks It's about that time of year to run our annual TalkBears Mock Draft, if we have people interested. Here's the general way we run it, but I'm more than happy to change based on suggestions. You get a team, you handle their draft as the GM. We can decide whether we want to allow trades or not. You get 24 hours on the clock, so sometimes picks come fast and then there's a small delay. If we start in a couple days, there's probably time to get 2 rounds in. Sadly, no one gets to be the Bears this year, since they're pickless, but that makes things easier on me. Carolina also doesn't pick til the 2nd round, so we can wait on filling that one if you're interested. What I'd need is 10 or so people to reply in this thread and say they'd be interested in picking a team. I'll throw open the floor right now to people saying "I want this team!" Since I'm running the thing, I get dibs on the Bills, but otherwise, pick a team if you want it. We can start when every pick has a person to take it. Round 1 1. St. Louis (1-15) 2. Detroit (2-14) - brletich 3. Tampa Bay (3-13) 4. Washington (4-12) 5. Kansas City (4-12) 6. Seattle (5-11) - defiantgiant 7. Cleveland (5-11) - clnr 8. Oakland (5-11) 9.
