Excellent post Lucky...

No. I'm sorry, that's just a silly "drunk" argument. You are just saying "on any given Sunday". Of course that is correct. Sometimes great one falter or have no help. And sometimes mediocre ones rise above. Our offense may perform better than Brady's did, but our QB is not better. Whether it's Jay or Josh.
-
No! Stop it guys! I hate Brady. But I damn well respect him. Not ever will McCown be better than Brady. He might have a better game...but he himself, is not a better QB. THis is just fluffery that has no bearing other than in a bar after copious amounts of booze! Even then...! Let's let McCown either have a good game or not and judge it on its own merits. Not compared to Brady. But odds are it'll be moot since it looks like Jay's starting.

No. Not now. Not ever. Listen to Mark Twain. There are lies. Damn lies. And Statistics. I am beyond thrilled at what we're seeing out of Josh. But Brady is better. No matter what. Brady is a 100% bonafide HoF'er with an argument of best ever... Let's be happy with what we have w/o making a comparission that is irrelevant and incorrect. I get that we are all caught up in the hoopla...but that is just silliness.

We all need to enjoy this! When can you recall having 2 capable QB's on the squad? -

All valid questions. I head Cosell of the NFL FIlms crew talk with Cowherd this morning and said some interesting things about McCown. Given how much film he watches. He sees McCown as a very different QB than when he was inthe league a while back. He said some of his biggest plusses were his adjustments at the line. He seems to really get the system. I think Cleveland will be a gid test. They have one of the best D's we will see this year on the road. If McCown delivers another strong performance...man, are there hard questions to ask! -
We need to take up a fund to keep sending you and your pops to games! What an awesome experience! I am jealous about everything but your cold! Cheers!

I pretty much agree with your assessment. However, I think Cutler is the guy to move forward with. But, with the caveat that we don't break the bank. If he wants too much, as you said, we tag and dangle. If no one wants to trade for him, you play it out as you groom the next. And/or, you continue to negotiate. I think the takeaway here for me is SYSTEM. I really think Trestman can make this work with just about any servicable QB. Jay simply offers the potential to really light it up. But for mega-bucks, there is no gurantee of that...including his history of injury. You simply need a QB to buy in completely to the system. All that said, we should make a generous, but not stupid offer to McCown to stick around. Whether we keep Jay and especially if not!

It is indeed a pleasant change. Hopefully, many more like that to come!

It'd be nice if we came to play. Our d is at a historic low.
-
And Anderson has regressed.

Heard it this morning too. Must be the Vandy connection. They need a QB, and if we jetison him...why not? I just hope we don't jetison him!

100%! We've had so many bad karma games of these kinds...it's time for the pendulum to swing the other way! We must and will kick ass! As coach would have wanted!
-
Right with ya...

You picked a great one to go to! Help bring in the win! I expect to hear a loaud roar from the fans all game long!

No need to root for someone else. We'll make it.

I think the injury issue is what gets us a discount. Let's also not forget, that the receivers have been getting better throughout the season. Learning routes, blocking better, etc. So, McCown has been a recent beneficiary of that. I'm simply a bird in hand mentality on this one. We really know what we have in Cutler. We know the upside and downside. We don't really know how much more up Josh can be. But we know from his past, that he can be awful. The best case to me, would be sign Cutler to a fair deal that doesn't cash strap us, and re-sign McCown to back him up and maybe work himself into a QB coach role in the future. I may have issue with Emery on his drafting of D, or his BS to the media...but I think the guys knows his O. Pretty much same with Trestman. I do trust that they will make the right call for the team. They see it day in and day out. In a nutshell, I'm not sure either move will be great or bad. But my gut tells me if we bounce the best QB we've had since McMahon, we will end up in a similar situation we have had finding a good QB. Scott Mitchell sure looked great subbing for Marino before landing a real gig. See Cassell, see Flynn, etc... Something about back-ups that do well when truly backing up vs getting the gig. Makes me uncomfortable.

Cutler = dick McCown = nice guy Who normally finishes last?
-
Just an aside to the main topic... Just as a gut observation, I think the OL has gotten better on passing downs and worse on running. I have no empircal evidence, just my beer enhanced eyes during the game.

Another well thought out post. You're on a roll!

I get that same vibe.
