AZ54 - Please tell me you were saying this tongue in cheek, you really are not serious are you?
-
No, I missed that. This kid works his butt off every year. Last year his leg strength improved on FGs and it appears he is still becoming stronger and better refined in technique. 67 yds, wow, and were not in Mile High, LOL.
-
Yes, 22nd overall. He has not had a chance to prove anything. I agree, he would probably require a first rd selection, (I doubt a team would give a high 1st, but maybe a mid to late) or, as you said, a 2nd + ???. That being said, let's sit back and see what the QBs do this year for us. I still think Kyle Orton has a lot more upside than many believe. I am now an Orton Backer in that I think the kid deserves to show us what he has to offer with legitimate preparation. In the past when he was asked to start it was always an afterthought. He never got the reps he needed because he was always carrying the clipboard. In his rookie season he did remarkable in that when drafted he was to again, carry the clipboard and be a 3rd string project. Then the kid was thrown to the wolves without much advance warning. I would have crapped my pants. I think he did an excellent job for a rookie. Rex may still be the QB we hoped, but hasn't he had enough opportunities to show us what he is or is not? Now it is Kyle's turn to step up on the stage. Can he be a "David Gerrard" type of QB and lead us to the Super Bowl? I think he can.
-
If Rex isn't able to understand the frustrations of the fans in light of his ups and downs (more downs than ups) then he is not our QB because he is too stupid to be out there calling the plays. Hey, IMO opinion, the fans, who have been very supportive of this team, deserve the right to express their opinion, and one way for them to do that is to do as they did the other night and send a message to Rex. If ANY player does not want to get booed, he has two options, play better or quit.
-
I think it is still up in the air as to if he will be on the PUP at the start of the regular season. He has been doing work on the side in individual drills but I am sure the Bears will err on the side of caution and not bring him back off the PUP until they are absolutely sure he is ready to go. My guess is he may miss the first week or two.

I see him as a similar player to David Garrard of Jacksonville who seems to get a lot of good ink from around the league. I do not see Garrard getting ripped by anyone. If Kyle could become a QB in this mold, we will win a lot of games.

Reading the article on the family night practice on the website it would appear Orton is beginning to take charge of the position battle. This guy was very highly regarded as a college player and would have been drafted much higher if he had not missed so much time do to injury his last year. I hope he proves to be the sleeper QB everyone here has been waiting for. He did quite well for himself under the circumstances as a rookie and has played sparingly since but never with a chance to come in fully prepared, having limited time with the #1s in practice and limited reps period. It will be interesting to see what he does given a chance to really compete for the position. Up until now I have been thinking Rex all the way. Now, I am leaning toward Orton. Still early.

Agreed, and the thing I like most about it is this guy obviously is working his ass off "AFTER" signing a BIG $$$ contract. That is refreshing to me as well. Obviously, money well spent. I was hoping this guy would not turn out to be a short term star like Edinger turned out to be.

A small quote from the article now posted on the Bears site: I know they said he was working on his kickoffs but wow, 7 yds deep into the end zone with 4.2 hang time. Now that is awesome. Our kickoff coverage guys will have an easy time being number one in the league if Robbie can deliver like that on a regular basis.

I do not know of any instances here at TalkBears but DBDB would be the one that would have the answers to that. He is the site administrator they would be in contact if there were a complaint. Sportsinfinity owned the server that Bearstalk was on and the owner/operator of same was my go between. He was the one they contacted with threats when copy write infringements were found and then he contacted me.
-
Well, that kinda ticks me off. I have always been a fan of Wolfe and it is disappointing to me that his work ethics last year were less than needed. I am surprised. I thought it was just getting accustomed to the "big game" and not a lack of preparation that held him back.

Yes, it can cause problems when entire articles are posted, which is why a lot of times I will just put the link to the article. When I do copy and paste an article I am careful to make sure the author of the article is given credit along with the host site and include a link to the article on the originating site. That helps - doesn't entirely validate - the copy and paste of the article without the originating site taking offense. It is a touchy situation and we did get legal action threats at the other site when articles were posted without giving credit and links to the originating site. The Bears home site was one that took the greatest offense if I remember correct.

I still question why Bentley has not been signed by another team. We know he was once considered a STUD on the OL. He signed a BIG $$ contract, never played up to the contract due to injury/health issues, and is now a FA. He has been on the market for quite some time. He is still available. There are a lot of teams who need help on the OL, not just the Bears, as is the case every year in the NFL. So my guess is that this guy has a lot more injury/health issues than what you and I as "outsiders" know about.
-
The problem is for years we have no way of knowing how good our WRs really are because the abilities of the QB throwing to them directly effects how the WRs produce and look on the field. A bad QB can cause a good WR to look bad. A bad OL can cause a QB to be less effective and the running game to suck. A bad running game can effect the QBs production. Bad WRs can cause a QB to look bad. Ahhhhh... Everything is so complicated. I give up

Of course, if we were dealing with GBP front office for a trade, no tampering charges, I know that. I am saying, before this becomes official and GB gives permission, would it be tampering if the Bears made it public (and to Favre) that we wanted him to sign with us? That I believe would be tampering at this point, 7/31 @ 20:08. Tomorrow, depending on what GBP does, it might not be.
-
3 points: 1st, even if the Bears wanted to sign Favre, how would they be able to afford the BIG $$$ he would want? 2nd, if we were interested could we publically say so without a claim of tampering with him, ala Minny 3rd, would Minny go after him? Wouldn't this strengthen the tampering charges they are facing from GBP & NFL?
-
Yep, I agree, Mid round kinda sucks. I have had difficulty drafting in that position often.
-
I agree that I do not think a repeat of last years stats is likely for Brady, however, I could see him going mid first in a 10 round draft. I do believe there would be a half dozen RBs I would go with before Brady just because the RB position brings more uncertainty this year than ever before with so many teams going to RBBC and sharing reps amoung 2 or 3 backs.
-
Let me get this straight, you are down on Simms because of injury risk and therefore you want Leftwich? Leftwich poses a much bigger injury concern than Simms. If you take out the injury concerns, which are very high with Leftwich, I agree, go with Leftwich. However, Injuries are the exact reason I am concerned about Leftwich, he has had a problem with leg problems going back to his college days, whereas Simms had one major problem with his spleen but as far as I know this is nothering to be concerned about for his future days on the gridiron. The truth of the matter is, IMO, that players with previous starting experience like Leftwich, Culpepper, Dilfer, & Rattay have been available for quite some time and JA has not made any indication of interest in them. Now that the Cowboys are showing interest in Simms, I doubt he is in our future either. So, although I am not very happy with the thought, I think Caleb is our #3 QB.
-
I would hope all of the guys on our team would not be satisfied being anything other than a starter. However, if you are not annointed a starter, instead of complaining, get out there and prove you deserve to be one. Bitching on the bench is not going to help your cause. I still think he is on his way out. If Graham, McBride, Bowman, D Manning, Vasher, & Tillman remain healthy, it puts Ricky baby so low on the depth chart I see no reason not to trade him.

What is your favorite draft position in the FF drafts? Every year I agonize wondering where I will draft. I seldom get a top selection and usually get pi&&ed when I wind up drafting near the bottom of the 1st round. However, looking back on it I seem to always come up looking good when I pick late. Last year I drafted last in the first round and wound up winning the championship. So in a 10 team draft where do you prefer to select, #1, #10, or somewhere in between?
-
Ok, let's play what if. You have the number one overall selection in your fantasy football draft. Who do you select? LT? J Addai? A Petersen? F Gore? S Jackson? B Westbrook? T Brady? R Moss? or fill in the blank!

Ok, now I am beginning to drool. Shame on me. But with the 1st preseason Aug 7th, 9 days away from today, articles like this makes me, well, I will keep it clean, LOL In the Article (a must read!!) entitled Offense tightens up It states: It then goes on to say much more on our TEs being used more this year. ABOUT TIME!
