My guess is Jones still believes in Dak but will fire his HC and sign Billy boy hoping he can bring the success he had in NE with him. IMO, Billy is fools gold.
-
I meant that you both agree with me about the issue, LOL I knew you guys got along with each other.
-
Thanks! I can see why you would like him to be drafted by Poles.
-
Happy to see Stinger and AZ agree, for I also see nothing wrong if Flus call plays instead of the new DC. (Although he has also stated he "might" give up the responsibility to the new DC). Not all unusual in today's NFL coaching structure.
-
I know nothing about this guy, Zak Zinter, but if he had a serious injury that may require him to miss the entire 2024 NFL season, wouldn't he be at best a late day 3 pick or an UDFA? Seriously, educate me, I know nothing about him.

Here is the article (the only one on the subject I have seen) about our DC position possibilities. This one centers on who could be hired to be DC to retain continuity to expand on the success our defense had last year. 5 Bears defensive coordinator candidates for maximum continuity They mentioned and gave reasons for their consideration the following: Jon Hoke, Bears' CB Coach & Pass Game Coordinator Dave Borgonzi, Bears' Linebackers Coach Andre Curtis, Bears' Safeties Coach Travis Smith, Bears' Defensive Lines Coach Phil Snow, Bears' Senior Defensive Analyst
-
I'd bet that our new DC is already in Chicago as a coach for the Bears. I saw one article where they listed 5 possible candidates, four were position coaches already working with Flus. Memory might fail me but I think Hoke was the first listed.
-
I agree. I read nothing about Olsen or Cohen to make me think they would be an upgrade.
-
The Bears have one of the best, if not THE best salary cap / contract negotiators in the NFL. He will find a way to keep us clean. Thank You Poles for bringing him back. Another brilliant move!
-
I hope that while interviewing for the Washington GM they blew it and let slip their draft interests and their thoughts on filling their need at QB. LOL

I came across this in a Google search: REPORT: Caleb Williams Shockingly Reveals NFL Team He Does Not Want To Play For
-
I could swear that one of our members posted a quote from Caleb saying he did not want to play for Chicago. I think it was on a social media thread. Am I becoming feeble minded? Anyone remember this?
-
I'd love to see the splits on Caleb's stats. A comparison of his stats against top ranked teams vs. the teams that they always schedule against unranked teams to give their team an easier schedule. Same goes for Maye and Daniels. Fields' play in games where he "shined" were discounted by many because of the caliber of the teams his stats ranked high against. So if we are looking for his replacement, shouldn't we consider their splits as well?
-
It doesn't concern you about his performances against elite teams? I first noticed him when he played the team I follow, Notre Dame. He certainly didn't look like a generational QB in that game. In fact, if based on that game alone, I wouldn't waste a first round pick on him. Now, I am not saying he isn't a 1st round selection. But time and time again, he has underperformed in big games. That and the fact that he has been reported to say he doesn't want to play for the Bears bothers me. I was raised in lower Delaware where locals were Baltimore Colts fans. The Colts drafted Elway who refused to play for the Colts, resulting in him being traded to Denver. Caleb's statement about not wanting to play for the Bears raises bad memories for me.

There is an article giving a run down of 11 possible candidates and their qualifications for consideration as our new OC. 11 offensive coordinator candidates for Bears to consider to replace Luke Getsy After reading about Shane Waldron, I honestly do not see why he is being that highly considered. The Seahawks with him as OC have not had great success. This a quote from the blurb on him: That sure doesn't impress me. Candidates covered were: Shane Waldron Frank Reich Eric Bieniemy Klint Kubiak Jerrod Johnson Kevin Patullo Zac Robinson Frank Smith Darrell Bevell Greg Roman Kellen Moore

This is dangerous. It seems like this is a one-sided condemnation of Flus, without him having any backers. Now, to be honest, I'm torn on the decision to replace him. If it someone like Harbough, count me in. But otherwise, I don't want to change just for the sake of changing, not knowing the next guy would be any better. Yes, I know, how could anyone be worse, right? I just want to make two points (my personal opinions, which I agree could be totally incorrect.) It was said he needs to be replaced for his on and off the field performance. What off the field issues? Because Alan Williams resigned. Then the RB coach? Well, it isn't like Poles or Flus had any way of knowing the two guys would do something to cause the front office to take action. If so, a lot of people were fooled. Here is Williams' resume. (Was everyone guilty of bad decisions who hired him in the past?) As a coach: William & Mary (1996–1997) Running backs coach William & Mary (1998–2000) Defensive backs coach Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2001) Defensive assistant Indianapolis Colts (2002–2011) Defensive backs coach Minnesota Vikings (2012–2013) Defensive coordinator Detroit Lions (2014–2017) Defensive backs coach Indianapolis Colts (2018–2021) Defensive backs coach Chicago Bears (2022–2023) Defensive coordinator Flus and Poles, IMHO, did nothing wrong by hiring them. I know of no issues "off the field" that Flus or Poles should be criticized for. Second Issue. Everyone is asking what has Flus ever done resulting a Bears' victory. Shouldn't he get some credit for developing a damn good defense? Yes, he may have made some bad game-time decisions, calling plays on defense now that Williams resigned. He was really screwed when Williams left. As a HC still wet behind the ears, the last thing he needed was to wear two hats on the sidelines. Maybe a seasoned HC can take that duel responsibility. Yet, despite some weaknesses in our defense, it was our defense we were all excited about during the second half of the season. It was our vastly improved defense that gave us the victories, not our offense. Not our special teams. Our defense gets the credit. If Flus is going to be credited for the failure of our OC, then we should at least acknowledge he did contribute to the development of our defense (without their resurgence, we would be picking #1 & #2 this year.) Okay, I'm finished playing devils advocate. ? Pease. ?

Man, I really think Harbaugh would be insane to return to the NFL in 2024. Next Year? Maybe? In Ann Arbor he is king. Freshmen clamor to shine his shoes. Everyone on and off campus treats him as a celebrity. He is head coach for his alma mater. National Champions! More importantly, I believe he was just offered 120 million to coach for the next ten years, with the understanding he doesn't entertain returning to the NFL in 2024. That is more than the insane contract given Gruden by the Raiders. The going price would empty Fort Knox to get him to jump this year. Edit: I was wrong, it was 125 Million. Here is what I found in a Google search:

I was talking about trading draft picks, not Fields. I'm sure Cunningham would want to have top pick of QBs to start off his GM position with Washington. Would he outbid NE and anyone else wanting the top pick? I want teams trying to leap frog each other, offering us a deal impossible to turn down.
-
I'd love to see him as the GM of Washington. We get two 3rd round compensation picks for his minority hire. Poles selects another outstanding minority assistant. Same results next year, getting us two more 3rds. LOL Just think, Washington was one of the teams we were hoping to trade with if we gave up the #1 overall. If Cunningham is the GM of Washington, I wonder how that will work out. ?
-
The longest I've remembered a team waiting to announce a HC change was a week. Most are announced within 24 to 48 hours. 5 HC positions are already open to be filled. If Flus is still here next Monday, I'm pretty damn sure he will be our HC for the 2024 season.
-
No way would I trade Fields for less than a mid to high 2nd. Keep him, play him while a drafted QB gets his feet under him carrying a clip board on the sidelines. Hopefully he can increase his value going forward. But I'm tired of the Bears practically giving away players and seeming to never get a good return. Just my opinion. As far as today, it proved to me one thing. We need the draft and free agency to improve that OL. Yes, I know some of the sacks in the past were on Fields but come on. The number of sacks over the last three years is alarming. It's a wonder he isn't suffering from PTSD. Today he was sacked 5 times and pressured constantly. GB players where in his face the entire game. I can understand everyone being down on the guy. But it was brutal. He was lucky to be able to walk to the locker room without assistance. Even the refs didn't help with another no-call on a blatant personal foul. The league needs to cleanup the quality of the refs.
-
If we can dial up pressure on LOVE, he will make desperation throws that our DBs will LOVE. He does it all the time, and has gotten away with it time and time again. Today he will pay! Good Lord, I hope didn't just jinx us.

QUICK HITS - Pick 3 Points and Give a Brief Explanation...
Pixote replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
(Shaking my head in disbelief.) I will not comment further on this topic for fear of being misunderstood. I obviously have poor communication skills. I never intended any of this to be of a personal nature. Believe me. That is not me. I apologize if that is they way you took my reply. -
QUICK HITS - Pick 3 Points and Give a Brief Explanation...

Every time I disagree with you, you think it is me taking things personal. No, I don't take it personal. I just disagree. (Speaking from past experiences, I'm currently retired). If I am dealing with a client who is an asshole, you better believe I'm not going to give him a break, even if he may deserve it from the argument he has given. If anything, I might add to the bill. LOL If I am dealing with a client who has "shown me some love" by treating me with respect, you better believe I am going to give him a break when I go to write up the bill. I want him to feel the love. (I thought it better than hugging him/her. ? ) If I am a player and my GM and HC, coaching staff, and locker room shows me some love, you bet I will consider that when my agent is talking to me about the latest offer. However, if I don't feel that love from everyone, especially the GM and HC, I will want out of there. Trade me. Cut me. But I will leave even if it means taking less money elsewhere. So, IMHO, (don't take it personal ? ) I disagree. If anything, Poles showing his appreciation for his players is a positive. You must not be a "hugger". I love hugging my kids (and grandkids) every time I get a chance.
