    ...and yet we kept Kramer.

that feels to me (and Im just guessing) like they aren't sure when Bates will be back, and they need a backup at center. They may also consider Bates to be the superior backup guard over Murray, in which case, they still need Kramer to backup at center.

I feel like this is all going to come into focus in the next few days.

I hope not.   We just drafted the best pocket presence QB he should be fine.  Jones isn’t perfect but he’s not a turnstile either.  If we’re using cap space on someone go get Jonathan Allen.

I hear ya, but cutting Curhan has left us really thin at OT, and we kept more on the DL than I expect we need. We played the short term IR game with Blasingame in order to keep an extra DL for a short period of time. To me, that feels like an OT trade. Or better said, thats the pattern I was noticing, but of course i dont know what it means.

  3. It feels like we are gearing up for an OT trade.

Maybe Trent Williams from the 49ers?

We trade them Braxton Jones, Greg Stroman and/or Dom Robinson.

I also heard some speculation about a 3 way trade where we get Williams, involving the 49ers and Ravens. Unsubstantiated of course, not even a rumor, more like speculation.

On the other hand, Williams IS a great player, but he's looking to be paid big, and if he was 3 years younger id be all over it. But you dont want to pay a 4 year deal to a guy who only has 2 years to give you just based on current performance.

Brendan Bates is gone.  I hope he makes it to the practice squad.  Reports out there saying blasingame  will be cut but added back.   Scales makes the 53 then goes on IR.

yup thts what im hearing too.

Also, the Bears site has the current 53 here

And here with a few still remaining that shouldnt be like Wheeler.

  5. interesting, if Curhan is cut, Borom is IR, Kiran is brand new coming off an injury with no work, and Collins gone, who is our swing tackle?

I know Pryor can play all over the line, but with Curhan gone I gotta figure were going to add at least one OT in the next couple of days?

  6. the bottom 2 or 3 names will be nervous over the next few days as we look to maybe pick up discards.

Having a good roster means fewer possibilities of that, but there are still a lot of players that will be suddenly available.

Of course we got a jump on that too with Taylor and Williams acquisitions too.

  7. Ive been reading a lot of praise for Murray. I hadnt really seen him, or maybe better said, I hadnt focused on him, but ive read several pundits say he had the best camp of any backup OL.

I guess I need to go back and look at some film. But if Carter is gone, they must be feeling better about some of their other options. Good!

I saw the replay of the play and to me, it seems like he was running out to celebrate the INT because it looked like the defender who caught it was down. So he thinks they are running to the end zone to celebrate, and then he realizes it's a live play. If you look at it again, he runs straight to the ball carrier, not ahead to block.

I thought he turned around and made a block, Ill try to find the film again :)

  9. One thing i am entertained by, but will hope he keeps under control on our team, is what a meathead Taylor is.

There was a play where he was on the sidelines, and the Seahawks intercepted the ball, and he got so excited he ran out on the field and started blocking on the return LOL

He will be fun to watch for sure.

I think i heard the announcer say he is similiar to Cordelle Patterson with his size and speed. He can be a solid/good returner and maybe see a few plays each game at RB.  His end around last year was almost always a good gain.

and he can run go routes from the RB position - I pity the LBers or safeties that have to cover that. Hope he catches it when it comes though.

I think Velus Jones helped secure him a job.  Try to stash Wheeler on PS, cut Homer.

RB: Swift, Herbert, Johnson, Jones and Blasingame.

The injury to Larry Borum hurts since Kiwan is not up to speed, so this might be a position the Bears target in fa.

Steward with sticky fingers put himself in the spotlight.

agree with all of this. Ive been a constant Velus hater, but I gotta admit he looked like he has some value at RB tonight. I know it was against the 3s and 4s, but hes competing to be a 4 anyway.

You keep speculating that Warren has aspirations to be NFL Commissioner. There isn't a chance in hell that will happen. Warren is no dummy. He knows this.

Goodell's last reported salary in 2020/2021 was 63,900,000. He then received a raise, the amount of which I am uncertain of. He is only 65 years old, a little older than Warren. He has been highly successful in his position. The NFL fan base has expanded. Team owners are making fortunes. With such financial success under his leadership, he has maximum job security. There is no way in hell he is going to retire anytime soon. By the time he does, Warren will be too old to even be considered for the position.

You may well be right about that, but Goodell has been there a while, and he has made friends and enemies. I also think the league might like the optics of having Warren do it.

Also, every election year there are more candidates trying to get airtime and traction than there will be spots for nominations, so attention seeking by people who will not succeed isn't so outlandish.

So, I'm not predicting he WILL be Commissioner, but I think Warren isnt acting like someone who already has the job they always wanted - hes acting like he wants to move up. But that doesnt mean its gonna happen of course.

Either that or it's pure ego on his part, but I get the sense that he's always a guy with a plan. Maybe he wants to go into politics or something? Or open a business advising sports teams how to acquire large properties and build out attractions? or something! Cuz he's acting like he's working on getting somewhere.

Joe Montana pointing out John Candy from the huddle before a SuperBowl winning drive?  Who says they've not been nervous since their freshmen year in HS?  It's almost sociopathic in a competitive sense.  We're in for a treat if this kid stays healthy.

He really does seem to have that special quality.

I've told this story here before, but I'll tell it again. I met Joe Montana once (years ago), spent about 5 minutes talking to him. He was the single most boring person I've ever met. Like aggressively vanilla. And I wondered if this was just a total calm that let him keep the ship moving forward no matter how big the moment. You mention the word sociopathic, and I totally get it - not in an evil way - but in a detached way. Like nothing is going to get in the way of this movie. As if no obstacle could ever even get his attention enough to manifest itself as an actual problem in his world.

"The Super Bowl is on the line? No biggie. Oh look, there's John Candy. LOL OK look I'll just throw you the ball and you catch it OK? Like ever other time we ever did that simple thing."

Now Caleb does have outward emotions, yelling when he's happy or frustrated. ANd that's all very good, and very competitive. But you're right, he feels mentally like nothing is going to stop this train. Not nervous. Destiny awaits!

I cant wait to see this team in real game action and start to really see where the problems are, and how we fix them. This is feeling very good.
