If your asking if I see a ton more passing TD's the answer is no, you do make valid points but Cutler did throw 27 scores with "very bad" WR like everyone was saying. He now has another year with these same guys so that should improve things. The main will be how quickly can Cutler and the receivers get the playbook down. Last year Cutler was trying to learn a new playbook while also getting to know the guys around him. At this point Cutler shoudl know the guys for the most part except maybe Iggy since he wasn't on field except week 17. So now everyone can concentrate on learning the playbook.

He is done as a KR/PR, so we can stop tossing that around. I am just pointing out that he is far from "useless" like TerraTor has been saying for a long time now. He is no #1 and should be moved to #3. The fact that he is our #1 is not his fault that is the organizations fault for failing to get a #1 during FA last year.

Hester is not useless at WR. Why do you think he his. He is not a #1 I will give you that much but what makes you think he is useless. I have pointed out several times that if he didn't miss the 4 games he was on PACE for 80+ catches, over 1000 yds and 6-8 TD's. That is not useless. That is great prediction from a guy that had no true position coming out of college. And this was his 2nd year at the position. Give me break. Find me stats or prove to me that your right. You are the only 1 on here that believes he is useless.

With Martz throughout is stays the first year he was there the running game may not get better, but the # of rushing yds per game stays around the same, you see a dramatic upgrade in passing yds per game and also more pts per game. Even if all this stays the same and Cutler gets sacked more and throws around the same amount of picks or even a little more but the bottom line is we put up more Points. Its an upgrade. I am sorry I just can't see how this is a negative, unless the Oline is just as horrible as last year.
-
If he throws 30 picks but yet we still win Super Bowl, who cares. Bottom line is the W's. I do get what your saying but I would think they would come down though especially with him become more and more familiar with the WR's.

I don't disagree with your logic as all your points that you are made are legit and everyone here has seen me sing the praises of the "bad" WR corp that everyone said at the beginning of the year. Though showed last year that they are very much young and inexperienced but given more time with Cutler specifically and I think we will do just fine. If we can get a #1 I am all for it but I don't want us to bring in anyone else. As far Oline is concerned, they were pieced together and its a proven fact that Oline needs time together to really start getting good. If they oline stays together but Tice is able to teach them even more like I am sure he can I am optimistic we will be better. Still worry because of the 5-7 step drop backs required to run a Mike Martz system though. Here is a few stats though to think over. Every where Martz has gone the team has had immediate success. In '98(the year before Martz) the Rams were 22nd in passing, 29th is rushing and 27th overall, in his year they improved dramatically finishing 1st in passing, 5th in rushing and 1st overall. If you remember right that was with Warner who was a backup QB and took over because Green got hurt during pre season. In Detroit the year prior to him arriving they were 26th in passing, 26th in rushing and 27th overall. His first year there they went to 7th in passing, but 32nd in rushing and 22nd overall. Prior to him arriving in san fran they were 32nd in passing, 27thth in rushing and 32nd overall he improved them his first year to 13th in passing, 29th in rushing and 23rd overall. Although they dropped in rushing from 27 to 29th please note that they improved yards per game from 92 to 99.9. Last year we finished 17th in passing, 29th in rushing and 23rd overall. Any takers on how we might finish this year given Martz immediate success that he has had now.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Lets focus on Oline, DB's, Dline and then if we can get a true #1 WR. If we go out and get more WR's that are not #1's you are risking the development that we have seen so far from Hester, Knox, Bennett and so on.
-
I agree. I would like Kampman just not sure if GB would be willing to let him go. There is no way that he will command what Peppers will. I heard a rumor somewhere that he could be asking for a figure around $30 mill.
-
Your right. The only question I have on offense is will Martz utilize Forte and also many ????'s regarding the oline. If the Oline figures out how to block well this offense will be extremely dangerous and tough to win. However on Defense there are many ???'s in regards to the dline and secondary. I like our LB corp as we proved last year that we have depth. This is also assuming that we are able to resign Pisa.

You are so negative. Unless Cutler throws for 5000 yards 50 td's and 0 picks you are going to complain. Our WR's are not as bad as everyone says they are. Everyone(media specifically) says that we don't have the talent around Cutler. That is the biggest bunch of B.S. if I have ever heard. We have extremely talented WR's, the question is weather Martz and co can get the players to play close to what there talent is. You can tell me that Knox and Hester aren't talented. Hester is NO #1 but he had a good year last year and if he doesn't get hurt he was on pace for 90 catches and over 1000 yards and around 6-8 TD's. That is not horrible. I don't get how everyone disses that group. The 2 biggest problems that I have is listening to everyone say how bad our WR's are and how much of a baby that Cutler is. Find me specific stats to prove me wrong and I will listen.

wow 5 ints, if that all that happens, we are in Super Bowl, even with a mediocre at best defense lol
-
Pixote is right, this is a win/win situation. We either win or we suck so bad and everyone gets canned and then we get what most on here having hoping for a complete housecleaning. Unless that is of course, you are not a Bears fan really and just hope we always lose. Which there are a few on here that I wonder about sometimes. But I have more dignity and will keep those names to myself instead of doing what most people like to do and "air dirty laundry"

Great point. With this hire, Lovie can saw "we got the man I wanted the entire time" but he had better not saw that we are a run first team.
-
I saw he is a great fit because Martz likes an accurate and strong armed QB. Cutler is accurate, maybe not as much as Warner and he is by no question very much a strong armed QB. In StL you saw some quick strikes but he played alot of 5 and 7 step drop backs for the QB. If the offense was really a quick strike you would see more 3 steps insted of 5 and 7 step drops. If you read my statement correctly I said that I like our WR's and I think they CAN be a good fit. I very much question weather or not this offense will work because of mainly the Oline. However Martz tends to throw an awful lot and forget about the RB and he has never really utilized the TE. Our 2 greatest weapons is RB and TE. IF and I know its a really big IF. But If Martz can learn from his faults and start to utilize the RB, especially in the passing game and utilize the TE, this offense could be dangerous.
-
Hub was on the score just a little bit ago and he saying that the Bears have already reached an agreement with Martz but "they are soooo afraid of what Cutler will think" and that is the reason he hasn't been hired yet. I will also no longer listen to what Martz says. He also went on to say how much of a baby that Cutler is and everything but then just a minute later he said that you never really saw that during the season. I think he is getting his information for not so realiable sources. He tried to say that he heard that Cutler was such a big baby and everything in Denver all the time but I think that is funny because you never really heard much from him until after the fiasco with McDaniels trying to trade him as soon as he was hired.
-
I actually believe that Jay Cutler would be a great fit for a Martz style offense, however hit style offense is not a great fit for the personel that we have currently. I like our WR's and believe they could be dangerous in that offense but the biggest problem that I have is the oline.

Smith, Angelo may be at odds over coordinator pick
bowlingtwig replied to Wesson44's topic in Bearstalk
That is actually incorrect just a little as Lovie's first choice for DC was Rod Marinelli but the Bucs blocked that idea. However I do get what you are saying. -
I don't know if Martz is the best fit for us or anything like that but Zach Zaidman puts it perfectly. Name me another guy that is just as qualified that you do like??? There simply isn't much more out there. And it was rumored a while ago that Martz was a fall back option.
-
1 thing that I think we have to look at is this. When was the last time Martz had a good QB with scrambling abilities. Oh yeah thats right never. If Martz realizes this it could make the offense real dangerous, especially if we can get a good QB coach in here to help tutor Cutler, specifically a QB coach who has played the position before in the NFL.
-
Your right its extremely risky, I would be okay with it but I would be much better with it if Kurt Warner joined as QB coach.
-
I agree, however I would give ALL backups a chance to win. I am all for competition.
-
I can't say they were looking like the ideal linbacking core as Urlacher and Tino were both lost in Week 1. Urlacher was done for the year. Tino only played a handful of snaps all year. I have a lot of hope that they can mainly because that is a ton of speed that they would have. Urlacher may not be the same player he was a few years ago but the records show that with him on the field the D is better and more importantly the teams has a better chance to Win.

Kevin Rogers, the new Canidate for OC, Vikes QB coach
bowlingtwig replied to 'TD''s topic in Bearstalk
I think I heard on the SCORE this morning that it appears that Rogers is not a good fit after all and the Bears are going to look elsewhere. Not to sure what to think anymore. Most of us complain about this whole thing but it appears that most of us agree that the only thing we can do is sit back and hope all turns out well. -
Once again we lose another potential OC. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...ator-candidate/
