I think he’s a good fit for them too. In his first year in the system Tua had to learn to make the quick read. Things looked bad until he settled in and learned to take the easy play. Could Bagent run their offense like Purdy runs the 49ers? Both have arm strength limitations yet similar skillets otherwise.

If the Dolphins call and offer a 2nd Rd pick for Bagent what’s your answer?

Darnell Wright played well last week. I know Hunter had a bunch of sacks against us last year but that was also when Fields, Bagent, and Getty had no answer for their heavy blitz scheme. I look forward to seeing how Wright does in this game because he’s already seen Hunter and knows what to expect. After this game we’ll have a good idea how good our RT can be. Braxton might be more of a question mark but he also held his own last week in pass pro.

I was looking over the Texans depth chart. I don’t know much at all there aren’t a lot of big names. Our Oline will go from trying to block TVondre Sweat and Simmons to Mario Edward’s and Foley Fatukasi. Their DEs are good with Hunter and Will Anderson. They seem to have a good DB group. On offense they have a good group of small quick WRs. Good Oline, RB Mixon, QB. More than the defense being challenged this will force our offense to score points if we want to win this game. Which leads to my next point…how will Caleb respond. After watching Chase Daniel’s film review I’m now very optimistic about Williams future. While he had his share of mistakes he was clearly reading the field well for most of the game. With just a couple tweaks he easily had two TD throws both being in the red zone where rookies notoriously struggle reading a compressed D. Shelton getting pancaked by a LB led to one tipped pass that prevented a TD. Coaches were right to keep him in the pocket and trust him to read the coverage. The Oline had issues but if we only fixed the huge mistakes by Shelton on a few plays that game looks much better for Williams. Our IOL weakness matches up better against the Texans DT lack of depth. We might see a calmer Williams in the pocket this week.

I can say that for however poorly he played Caleb Williams was not: Will Levis incompetent. He wasn't Jayden Daniels either at 7/55yds but ran on 16 carries (I didn't watch anything at all of Wash). He also wasn't Mitch Trubisky or Justin Fields in their first starts. In other words, as bad as it was the game doesn't seem to be too big for him. The coaches largely left him in the pocket so we didn't have to do the usual roll outs to narrow down the reads for him to one side of the field. While there is tons of needed growth I don't think he's starting from the lower levels as much as we've seen in the past. I'm very curious to see how quickly he adapts after seeing the film.

Wild game, great come from behind win. I mean that sincerely because with a rookie QB and a lot of hype coming into the game you don't know how they will respond to the early adversity. Good teams over come those hurdles and find a way to win and we did that. Almost nothing went right on offense. Caleb looked every bit like a rookie in his first game. Still his talent was evident, he just needs to settle down and let the game come to him, and play in rhythm with more quick passes. The rumor that Coleman Shelton is better than Lucas Patrick crashed and burned before halftime. As Bates gets healthy he'll take that job from him. Let's hope that is next week. Nobody will ever miss the 6th Rd pick we gave up for Darrell Taylor. The defensive front played well with highlight plays from players across the board, Dexter, Billings, Sweat, Taylor, Walker. There were some gaps of course but overall for a first game this is a very good start.
-
I’ll celebrate that too. But then I love good defense and that’s not why he was drafted. Caleb has a lot to learn but there was no point in that game where I felt Levis was even close to him in talent. I’d trade the often injured Keenan Allen for a good center too.

Tyler Scott inactive surprise for today. https://bearswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bears/2024/09/08/bears-week-1-inactives-keenan-allen-montez-sweat-to-play-vs-titans/75132279007/

T'Vondre Sweat will look really good in the first quarter. Then he fades in the 2nd quarter. Early in the 3rd quarter he shows some burst again and by the 4th quarter he's just standing around. I agree with running on the edges, get him tired early. For passing downs Simmons is the game wrecker and we should double team him and leave Sweat with a single block. He may get some pressure early in the game but he's not a problem for someone like Williams to move around or away from. Simmons is a much different problem if he gets free. Plus we need to keep a blocker free because I agree on the expected blitzes.

I think the contract they gave to Love has set them up for that.

Exactly where is the lack of depth on our offense? I really don’t understand that statement. https://titanswire.usatoday.com/lists/titans-vs-bears-week-1-6-keys-to-victory-nfl/

https://titanswire.usatoday.com/2024/09/06/tennessee-titans-jamal-adams-out-deandre-hopkins-questionable-chicago-bears/ the titans DBs could be without two starters. Hopkins is not fully ruled out.

Well then it appears the coaches wanted to help him improve by focusing on screens in the preseason. (Yes I'm being facetious.)
-
I was curious what a film study of Levis was like so I found one. It's preseason so who knows what to expect in the regular season but the screens shown here would appear to be a big part of what they want to do. On his last throw in this video I'm not sure what he's looking at. If he's willing to force a few throws like that against us I won't mind at all. Levis has arm talent and he can run.
-
Sure put Sneed on our 3rd WR.
-
It would be. In preseason you could tell he was still reading things slowly. I saw him hesitate in similar ways to Justin but there’s one big difference. Williams release time is about one quarter to one third of Fields. With similar arm strength he can get by holding the ball just a bit longer to make sure the play is open. Likewise simple plays like WR bubble screens get the ball into the receivers hands about a second earlier. It will be easier for Caleb to get the simple positive plays which should help him gain confidence until he’s more comfortable reading the middle of the field.

The other article i didn’t get time to post earlier. https://titanswire.usatoday.com/2024/09/03/tennessee-titans-urged-sign-defensive-lineman-adam-gotsis/ “Even with all of the changes, the Titans still have some weaknesses that may shine through during the 2024 campaign. The Bleacher Report Scouting Department believes cornerbacks, interior defensive line, running back, quarterback, and wide receiver are the biggest weaknesses.” “Cornerback’s depth has been widely documented after only keeping four on the initial 53-man roster. The unit is counting on veterans L’Jarius Sneed and Chidobe Awuzie to man the outside, with Roger McCreary in the slot.” Weeks ago I saw where McCreary was ranked as one of the top NB in the league. If I’m not mistaken he also plays outside CB in their base D. “The Titans defense is going to look different under new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. From a personnel perspective, the defensive interior is a little thin. Jeffery Simmons will be expected to play a lot of the snaps, but the rest are going to be divided up between Sebastian Joseph-Day, rookie T’Vondre Sweat and Keondre Coburn.” Nobody is moving Simmons. Sweat is tough early in games but has no endurance whatsoever and is mostly useless in the 4th quarter of games, if not sooner depending on snap count. I still expect we’ll work more on the edges with our run plays at least early. If you want him on the sidelines make Sweat run early and often.

For Wk 12? I can be nice and acknowledge they need a 4th QB after losing McCarthy for the season. But I’d rather take the bait and agree they’re gonna need 3 months to prepare for the beat down will be delivering in Wk 12. And it still won’t help them!

I think we’ll see Bates around the league for several years. Oddly we kept 6 DEs and I assume the depth players there were better tacklers on special teams. That makes sense since they are used to taking on blocks and shedding them to make a tackle.
