After the initial disappointment of losing the SB, most would call it a pretty damn good year. Lovie, Turner and Marninelli would be getting huge props. As would I, but you know people would be calling for Lovie's head. Just look at Mad above. No, our defense is not meant to be an "in your face" stuff you at the LOS type, but they are meant to do a little more than simply create turnovers and score. If our defense creates 3 turnovers and even scores a TD, that would be great, but if they give up 35 points also, I think most would consider them to have played poorly. I agree we are not likely go be a defense that stuffs the opponent and leads the league in yards given up. At the same time, besides what you mention, I think we are also expected to (a) limit an opposing teams scoring and ( create significant pass rush. Yes but if you lead the league in scoring defense and are at the top of the heap in turnovers created, you are probably not giving up 35 points a game. If you look at the comments of many, they are mad because the defense is something it is not meant to be. As long as people know that, its cool if you disagree on what type of defense to run. Just dont get mad when we are not stonewalling team yard-wise. If you don't like the question, fine. Take a pass. But I am not sure why it is so out there. Lovie made the call to go w/ Babich, and it failed. Now, Lovie is taking over the defense. If the defense fails, I think it appropriate to ask what happens to Lovie. And I've said as much, the original point of this thread was the 20th ranking of Lovie which I find ridiculous. That's what is out there. And by reading some of comments it looks like people want to give Rivera credit for all Lovie's wins and bash Lovie for the losses. Which is certainly their right on a message board, its just irritating. Never said Lovie is the best coach in the world, but he absolutely does not get the respect he deserves, especially here.

lol. The ifs and buts game, huh. What happens if the defense is top 5 in scoring, the offense is top ten, and we lose in the super bowl? Now remember kids, our defense is not meant to be a stonewalling type, it is meant to create turnovers and score.

I think that all of us can agree on that point. Whether you think he is underrated or overrated, this is the year to show we can be that consistant playoff team.
-
Thanks for proving my point. You dont give a shit about Ditka, but then use his stats to illustrate that "it" can be done. Nice. Never said that I was happy to not make the playoffs. That isn't even what this whole thing is about. And I never said that Lovie was the best coach ever. But he clearly deserves more respect than 20th in the league and IMO from some people on this board. And its weird how Rivera couldn't "tweak" his dominant defense in the SB to get us the win.
-
Um....Lovie has won here, so I guess he gets to be HC for life according to you.
-
GReat points all around Giant. You have to remember that some of the guys on this board live in 1985, so if a guy isn't Ditka he is a crappy coach. And I would really hope that some of the negativity isn't racially based so I wont mention it again. Clearly, Smith is better than 20th in the league as HC. His win totals say so. I think that his demeanor turns some off who want the "Ditka" type of raving lunatic on the sidelines. Also people need to realize that Lovie is not going to change defenses on a whim or even the clamors of the forum allstars. He is a cover 2 coach. That's what he knows how to coach.

Kind of what we expected. I would look for Beekman to replace Kruetz in the coming years.
-
This is nothing to worry about. In our scheme, the safeties are expected to know and play both positions.
-
Actually I think you do set out with that being the goal. And what I mean by that is opponents will have to honor both the run and pass. If they cheat one way or the other, we can make them pay. You have a great running back and All Pro QB so I think balanced is the way to go. I just hate when people offer up the "get of the bus running" quote as some kind of evaluation on what type of offense we run.
-
No we do not need to. Thats all we need is this moron teaching our young receivers how to shoot themselves in the leg. We need mentors, not morons.
-
I agree. I also think that if Riddeau doesn't make the next step this year and earn a spot, he will be gone.
-
I guess I don't understand your point. People are saying that Hass and Riddeau should have been playing and I am saying maybe they just weren't good enough. Hass was on the Seahawks last year and couldn't see the field on a team whose had three or four injuries at the position. To me that says he wasn't good enough to play on a team who were signing FA's to play that same week. What does McCardell have to do with the talent of Hass and Rideau?
-
Right here Says he played 2003 and 2005 at SLB.
-
Just because someone has potential doesn't mean they realize that potential. Maybe the Bears saw something they liked but it didn't grow from there. Doesn't the fact that Hass couldn't get on the field in Seattle tell you something? And I have the feeling that if Riddeau can't earn a spot this year then he will be gone as well.
-
Come on man. The Seahawks had ZERO receivers last year after all of them got hurt and Hass caught exactly zero passes. They were signing guys off the street to play over him. The bottom line is that he simply was not good enough.
-
Interesting...
-
I will agree here. I like this cadre of young receivers. It means they will be hungry and motivated. I would like us to even get rid of Davis. I cant wait to watch these guys run around.
-
Here is one more we should add: Beware the fickle Bears fan. Although they claim to have tons of knowledge in the areas of offensive and defensive coordination, GM skills, and player evaluation skills, most do not have patience and do not know how to handle a "gunslinger" style QB. Therefore if you throw for 300 yards and 4 scores every week, everything will be fine. But as soon as you throw 2 or 3 picks in a game, you will hear the words "bust" and calls for Mr Angelo's head for trading for you. You could even lead us to a Super Bowl appearance, but as soon as you fumble or toss a pick six you will start hearing boos. Ignore this. Most of these guys live in 1985 and the most experience they have had with football has been running their fantasy teams. Picture the "Superfans" skit from SNL x 1000. If you have a rough patch, the true fans will understand. The true fans will not expect you to come in and magically transform Davis and Bennett into Rice and Taylor. It will be a work in progress and and fun to watch. Sometimes, with the gunslingers, you live by throw and die by the throw. Just play hard and if you hear the boos from time to time, call these fools out on it. And enjoy Matt Forte.....we all did last year.

I dont know. I dont see a huge difference maker in that list of players. In my mind, they will have to get better, because they can't be worse than 0-16. But I am not worried, yet.

What I was intrigued with was that they were working him at LT. I think that a guy with that sort of athletic ability at LT would be a good project over there.
-
Which would go along with the thinking that he does not play as fast or quick enough to run at fullback and tight end...... which is what I said that the "reports" said in the first place. Looks like your nemisis McClure was RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH THE HUMANITY Seriously though man. Both the blogs reported the same thing in different words. Louis is not athletic enough to play TE/FB which is why he is at LG/LT. I get that you "loathe" McClure, although I do find it creepy that you actually care that much about him to "loathe" him. I could really care less about McClure and Biggs other than the info on their blogs. They happen to be two of the only people I could get rookie minicamp info from, and they both pretty much said the same things. If you want to disect the words, then be my guest.
-
And Biggs said "Guard Lance Louis does not look like a tight end at 303 pounds. He's an athletic guard, not an oversized tight end, so he's just right wearing No. 60." So change that back to reports, tough guy.
-
Reports out of the minicamp were that Louis was not as fast and quick while playing that the numbers would indicate. He ran at left guard and left tackle. So maybe this guy can use his athleticism to become a left tackle. He is intriguing to say the least.

Are there any videos out there of the action? I would love to see some of these guys running around.
