I watched that ordeal and clearly he is insane.

Wow really? Mark this day down. lol Yeah but alot of that is the talent at DE. If we had a premier player there, people would have to dedicate another man to block him. Right now we have average DE's. And in fact I saw Alex Brown stop his pass rush several times when McNabb pump faked. Straight up stopped and the ball wasn't released. I have no idea what that was about but I was disappointed in it. And come on nfo, you dont think any OT doesn't know what to expect from the opposing DE's. Everyone watches film. Everyone knows everyone elses moves. Its if you are good enough to stop the DE. Actually if you took the outside contain away from the DE's it would then fall to the OLB's making their job harder. You are giving them more responsibility which does not free them up more. If the DT's get a better pass rush then all this is moot. But if you look at it Dusty and Harrison are still relatively new playing full time so hopefully that aspect will get better. Izzy does a good job and Hurt Harris is garbage right now.

Come on coach. The slant is there because the LB's are late to their drops and because they are sometimes blitzing. In our coverage the outside backers have the underneath on the slant. If they are blitzing then we give that up. It has nothing to do with the DE's. I thought you were the teacher.....

Good post Crack. Spot on. Although you know the wanna be GM's and such are going to rip you for this.
-
Thanks for that voice of reason, AZ. Precisely, the ends have contain in our scheme and the DT's are not supposed to let the QB step up in the pocket. When the DT's do there job then the DE's get sacks.
-
Yeah that makes a ton of difference. Oh so obviously we should run it up the middle with a crappy oline. Good one. I'd love to see your chart on the "odds of success" of certain plays. Good point here. It makes a ton of difference who is handing the ball off. Another great point. Since reverses dont count as runs, the clock automatically stops. Thank you for the lesson. Whaaaahahahahahahahahaha

lol I love your sense of humor.

nfo, Never said we have no right to an opinion. And I dont believe I have ever said that the coaches are flawless. I have called to task their ability to develop our players and teach them correct technique. But seriously, how many times do we need to see the DE thing? And in the form of a letter?

lol Calm down tough guy. Or its the kind of play that worked earlier and the kind that Jackson from Philly ran for two first downs. pee-wee indeed

I think the irony here is that Orton is playing more like Rex than the game manager he was supposed to be. I think that is a good thing. In my mind, we need a quarterback that can win a game for us. Its also entertaining to watch all the hypocracy of people making excuses for Kyle that they would rip Rex for. Its funny stuff. Its also safe to say that we now have a case of Good Kyle and Bad Kyle, so it will be interesting to see if he can overcome the turnovers and sacks as this was supposed to be an area of strength.

Dear Jason, You are not a better GM than Angelo. You are not a better GM than Matt Millen. You are not a better coach than any coach currently employed in the NFL and college. Please stop the charade. Now for homework: I want you to call up the Bears and ask them what their defensive responsibilities are. Now I want to you to watch every snap over and over and grade the entire defensive line and let us know the difference in the DE and DT grades. Thanks for posting nonsense, Someone who cares.

I agree. And the better Orton plays the better Turner looks. I think that has to do with the player himself. I thought Polite outplayed him in preseason and showed more running and catching it. I would have been happier if we would have dropped McKie for Polite. I think we are using the TE's well. But I have to admit, every time Olsen catches it I am waiting for the fumble. He doesn't like anything that isn't Forte up the middle. lol. The fact is that Philly had stacked the run and anything we ran was not going anywhere. Play action would have been good their but you want to keep the clock running,
-
You forgot the biggest reason: Cause I am an NFL GM and if I don't agree with it then its idiotic.
-
To what exactly? Look man, no defense unknown. The reason these guys are giving up yardage is the individual efforts not the cover 2. Like that TD to Jackson, thats Mike Brown getting beat not the system. I think nfo is right that you dont change to a defense where the coaches are not familiar with. Thats a recipe for disaster. And if you bring different coaches with a different scheme at the end of the year, then you probably have to change players to fit the new scheme. And actually, if Madden says something we should probably do the opposite. That guy is as senile as they get. Tampa is sitting at 3-1 with a top defense and they are actually in the cover 2 more than us. Maybe we need more cover 2.....
-
Yeah, I questioned the deal at the time, because of the injury question. We paid him as the best in the league and he hasn't played like it in some time.
-
I'm glad we payed him so much then.

Brown and Vasher have been terrible.
-
Shoot. Its the defense you have to worry about. When will they be physically prepared to play 4 quarters?

Bucs TE Stevens: "People on the Bears got exposed"
azbearsfan replied to madlithuanian's topic in Bearstalk
Part of what he could be talking about could be the way HH played him. On the goalline you always take away the inside route and force them to throw the fade. HH didnt do crap. -
Well thats not good news for us.

lol You are taking some real liberties with your logic and applying it to what I think. So every single coach creates a new and unique scheme? No. There are very few original schemes for offense and defense at this point. Lovies base defense is the cover two. Same as the Colts, Bucs, etc. It is a sound, balanced defense. No I do not think Shoop is a good coach. Again I dont think that he had very much talent, I dont think he could get his guys to do what he wanted, and I didn't think he could call plays very well. This does not mean if he came up with an offensive scheme it would be bad. What if he came up with a scheme and a good coach made it work? If you go to coaching clinics, there is an old saying "Its not about the X's and O's, its about the Larry's and Joe's" which means it doesn't matter what you run as long as you can get the players to buy in and get them to their responsibilities. It wouldn't matter if we were running a 4-3 cover two, a 4-4 cover three, a 3-4, a 4-6, or a 3-5-3, if the coaches could get these guys to play responsibility football it would be successful. ok, so basically you are saying that both DT's are double teamed every down. Sorry man, thats just not right. That is the point. Offense and defense are different. What we are seeing with our DL is not a fair comparison to a 9 man box. An equivalent on defense would be the offense max protecting against a 4 man rush. If they did that, you would have 7 defenders against 2 receivers in coverage. Sounds good to me. At this point, I am tired of this subject. I keep making the same point over and over, and you keep changing yours trying to get into this word play game. First the defense is too plain and soft, next you have given Babich credit for changing things up. Clearly, if you were coach, you would run this amazing defensive scheme where you blitzed and stunted every down and they would never where the blitz was coming from. And clearly I would not run this defense. Just because I dont like your scheme doesn't make it bad. If you could get your players to all handle their responsibilities and made sure that the base defense was sound, I'm sure it would work.
-
Yeah but what about Booker? Everyone said he is not a good preseason player and I have been waiting for the explosion.
-
I'm not sure where you would get that I think every coach is a good coach. Far from it. Every scheme can be good, if the coaches can get their players playing right. I believe I have said that our coaches are not doing this. Loading up the gut in what way? Like sending all of their blockers at our DT's. Come on, nfo. Now you are just making stuff up. Watch the games. Noone is doing anything special to block our DT's. Most of the time it is a one on one block. Occasionally a double team. And offense and defense are different. I would still run the back at a 9 man box to set up play actions. Again putting 9 in the box is cheating your defense. But we just didn't play zone all year. We also played man to man. If NO didn't prepare for it, thats on them. I have not seen where you have given Babich credit. From what I read, you have been ripping the scheme calling it predictable due to us playing passive and not blitzing and stunting and the DE's not working inside moves. Again what I see is not bad scheme, but bad technique. Poor angles, not getting off blocks, poor tackling, not being in good position in coverage, poor discipline, not being in shape, etc.
-
lol Everyone can be good. Depends on if the coach can get the players to do what they need to. Why is our defense not playing well this year? Its not the scheme, or cause we dont blitz a ton, or stunt, or whatever. The problem is our interior linemen are not creating pass rush. Because of this we are forced to cheat our linebackers into pass rush. When it gets picked up there is less help in pass coverage. The quarterback sees where the blitz is coming from and throws the slants or to one on one coverage. There is nothing wrong with the scheme. The coaches are failing to get the players the handle their responsibilities. Yeah, I watched that one where they gave up 380 to Dallas and let Romo throw for 312 and 3 td's, let the TE get 117 receiving and let Owens get a 72 yarder. They gambled and lost. And thats on NO not being prepared. We run multiple coverages all the time. In fact, I recall reading somewhere that we are in an actual "cover 2" less than 40% of the time. And Babs has been receiving tons of credit for the "mug up look" where the backers all crowd the line and then either blitz or back off. You make it seem like there are no adjustments ever when that is just not the case. Well see right there you are contradicting yourself. If everyone did their responsibility, then there would be pressure on the QB. If the front four was doing their job then the QB would be pressured. Every scheme can be good depending on coaching and players.

Great read. Really on point with everything. 1) Turner has not been bad. 2) The defense has been blitzing and changing looks. 3) The lack of conditioning and discipline has cost us in two games. 4) Suggests Lovie is too lax and people tuning him out.
