  1. Chris Williams is universally regarded as a "top shelf" left tackle talent. There's always a 6-6 300 lb tackle with tons of ability available, (see Mitchell, Quasim) but that doesn't mean they're worth a shit. With the #14 pick the Bears drafted: 1. Our most pressing need 2. The best player available The pick of Forte is more up for debate. But let me ask you this: What RB is available entering round 3 that's better then Forte? It was a "need" pick, and we took the best guy we thought was available.
  2. Our #1 need was OT. We take our OT at #14, and offensive tackles are taken at #15, #17, #19, #21, and #23. On hindisght that's a damn smart pick.
  3. Forte was projected as a FB before the senior bowl where he was the MVP, and before the NFL combine where he ran a since the combine where he had a great workout. Since then, every mock has projected him to go in the 2nd round or the early 3rd. He's also an excellent blocker which is something Ron Turner craves. What you're missing is that we drafted him because he is a full time every down half-back.
  4. I agree with your agreement. Both with the pick & that long hair sucks. The fact teams were getting stupid to get those cherished offenisve tackles is all the proof we need that this was a damn smart pick. You can argue whether we should have taken Albert, Otah, or Williams, but as of right now, Williams is the most NFL ready LT rookie available.
  5. There's an episode of Married with Children where Al has a weeks vacation, and he fences off the couch, and everyone has to pretend he's not there while he sits there and watches TV. That's EXACTLY what I'm doing. I have a cooler the size of a coffin that'll be filled with beer & a 5 gallon piss bucket. I've been telling the wife all week, "Damn I'm going to miss you honey . . . what are you going to do while I'm gone?" Saturday actually shouldn't be that bad. It doesn't start until 2:00 p.m. central, and the time is shorter. The first round shouldn't take 6 hours this year. Sunday's the day that'll be more stressful for Bears fans. It starts at 10:00 and the Bears will be on the clock fairly quickly, and have two 3rd round picks. Not to mention the 4 7th rounders.
  6. I doubt it. Rucker has suffered through injuries and there was speculation that he might retire previously. This isn't exactly a shocker. That being said, as it stands, there are 5 top offensive line-man projected to go in the top 20. There's no way in hell all 5 of them go before the Bears pick. If that happens, there will be a DAMN good player to take once the Bears draft. Hell, Matt Ryan could fall. Either way, unless we "reach" for a guy, I feel like we'll be happy with whomever we pick.
  7. Yes, I'd prefer that. Personally if I'm not actively involved in a discussion, I pretty much ignore it after it has 10 posts. For instance the "To hell with it, blow it up" thread is up to 68 posts. When I first read it there were 5. I don't want to spend an hour sorting through all that. I'd much prefer more threads on the front page. I don't know that I've ever hit page two.
  8. Outstanding!!! I was wondering if we'd have a chat room. I'll be there.
  9. I just whipped out my Sporting News Draft guy and interestingly enough, Tom Zbikowski is NOT one of the Super Fans. I just wanted to clarify that for everyone here (including myself) who thought he was. They have him projected as a 5th rounder, and they say he's tough and attacks on every play and is a dangerous return man. But he struggles with man to man coverage. He's also a semi-professional boxer. Sounds to me like a nice special teams player and we know how much JA covets those (can you believe we've been #1 in special teams 2 years straight??? When was the last time we were #1 on defense? Was it 1986? Have we EVER been #1 in offense). We have a bunch of picks later. You figure he's a guy we'd look at in round 6 or 7.
  10. Thanks for all your input guys! I'm ordering the 47" tomorrow after I read the "Sunday Sales". Hey Madlith, Wal Mart has a 52" Magnavox LCD 1080 for 1750.00, which is cheaper then the Samsung you were looking at. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9193472 I'd LOVE to get this TV but it's a little out of my price range (the TV I'm buying is a little out of my price range to begin with) I hate contributing to Wal Mart, but damn they're cheap. Even their extended warranties are cheap. For 2 extra years it's $79.00. Other stores charge $250.00 for the same thing. Bear's football in high-def . . .
  11. I saw that and loved it. I laughed my ass off. Although I think you and I have a different perspective. Let me ask you this: If the Bears had been accused of cheating and won a Super Bowl, would you give a damn? I sure wouldn't. Hell, Papa Bear used to do everything in his power to get the upper hand, including putting itching cream in the soap. I'm sure some of those early Bear's championships involved some shenanigans. Call me an ass, but I'd be much happier if the Bears had found a way to cheat & win, and we had 3 super bowl championships this decade . . . as opposed to what we have.
  12. This is why I love the pre-draft: Forte's fast, a great blocker, a great receiver, and a "high character guy." I'd be thrilled if we took him in round 2. Yet, I'd never heard of him before January.
  13. It's debatable which one of these guys are better, but I doubt one is head and shoulders above the other. That being said, won't one of these guys slip to round 3, especially when the Bears have the 9th pick? At this point I'm convinced the Bears will draft 0-line in round 1 and round 2. There's a ton of depth in the draft at o-line and we have tons of needs.
  14. I'm getting ready to break down & buy a TV & I'm kind of stressed on what to buy. I've read what the experts say, but I'd appreciate anytihing you guys have to offer from a first-hand experience. I've narrowed my choices down to these 2 (both from Wal Mart. I hate Wal Mart but damn they're cheap) : 1. 47" LCD Magnavox 1080p for $1198.00 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...le131444-rLink1 2. 50" Plasma Phillips 720p for $1397.00 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5633687 I'd appreciate any advice you could give me, especially when it comes to watching football. I get 16 HD channels so I'll be able to watch most Bears games in HD. Thanks!
  15. Why does this love for Mendenhall remind me of the love so many had for Mike Williams a few years back when we drafted Cedric. Nobody who pays attention thought we'd actually draft Williams, but the Williams lovers were all flat out furious when we didn't. I'm not trying to compare Mendenhall to a worthless piece of crap like Williams. I'm only trying to compare the situation: Nobody paying attention thinks we'll draft Mendenhall or any other RB in round one, yet members of this board are going to be flat out pissed when we pass on him.
  16. If you guys are all going to be hanging out in Rockford, who the hell is going to be on here to go berzerk when Angelo drafts a defensive end with his first pick? (Which also reminds me I need to ask what chat-room members of this site will be frequenting . . . the draft is seriously the only time of year I partake in chat-room chatter.)
  17. One thing nobody has mentioned: Don't we really need to draft o-line in rounds #1 & rounds #2??? Christ almighty we are thin at that position. As deep as this draft is, it wouldn't hurt us to draft two offensive tackles. Nicks might be available, or even a guard like John Grecko could still be around when we draft in the 2nd round. How do we pass him up? I know you want a QB, but I think we'll wait till later to draft a guy like Woodsen, Henne, Brennen, etc. As for RB, there's no way in hell we draft a RB in round 1 after we took Cedric at #4 overall, and drafted Wolfe in the 3rd. IMO in round #3 we'd take the top running-back available, (Hopefully Forte) and with our 2nd #3 we'd take a WR. I'm looking at the Sporting News Draft Guide, and they have 11 WR's marked as 3rd round talent. That means we'll have one helluva a lot to choose from. With the rest of our picks we'd look at DT's, WR, and probably two safeties (The way we went through them last year we'll probably need them. )
  18. Is our 2nd rounder too high for these guys? I mainly point that out because Johnson, Forte, and Charles could easily be around in round 3, where the Bears have the 9th pick. Swapping picks with San Fran all of a sudden seems incredibly vauluable.
  19. Agreed. Profootballtalk.com had a list of all new rules. That one was possibly related to Hester, another was related to a Bear's play: "The league also has changed two rules regarding fumbles: A legal forward handoff that is dropped is now a fumble, as is a direct snap from center that hits the ground before it is touched by the quarterback. In the past, the forward handoff would have been an incomplete pass and the botched snap would have been a false start." Was it vs. Minnesota that Kreutz's snap got caught in the mud and didn't get close to Griese? Minny or whoever thought they had the ball and it was ruled . . . I don't even remember what it was ruled. I'd never seen that before and I couldn't believe it.
  20. What you're missing is that "AT BEST" were hoping to get a guy similar to Orton: A guy we can draft later who will maybe develop into a decent QB. Angelo WILL NOT be pinning his hopes on Colt, but he's pinning them on Orton & Grossman. A guy like Colt would just be a gamble on a guy who might develop. Chances are the coaching carousel will continue. We need to draft TWO o-linemen fairly early, a running-back, at least one WR, a safety, and probably a defensive-tackle. With Orton & Rex still on the team, drafting a QB is more of a luxury then a necessity at this point, and none of the QB's in this draft are outstanding. Bottom line: We will likely draft a 2nd tier QB: Whether it's Brennan, John David Booty, Erik Ainge, Paul Smith, Andre Woodsen, or Sam Keller. We won't be pinning our hopes on any of these guys, but we'll hope one of them could turn out to be great.
  21. That's not calling him out. What Lovie should have said about Cedric is, "Slow, selfish asshole, says ignorant things, throws his teammates under the bus, cocky without reason, overpaid, bad hands, bad blocker, won't play hurt, worthless piece of crap . . . we might as well have drafted Mike Williams or Troy Williamson . . . at least we'd have gotten a draft-pick out of them." It's too bad Lovie didn't say how he really felt.
  22. I'm looking at the Sporting News draft Guide, and they have him projected as a high 4th rounder. In the big scheme of things, these draft guides aren't worth a damn. But if he is that good and he drops, his injury doesn't mean a thing. If he's out 12 weeks he'll easily be ready for training camp. Since he's our 3rd stringer, it's not a big deal.
  23. Agreed. Whoever we draft will be sitting far behind Rex & Orton and Kyle has been very durable. In other words, I don't see any player we draft taking the field this season anyway. We have an extra 5th round pick. We could do worse then to draft him.
  24. At 6-7, 310 lbs, the guy is built more like a tackle then a guard. Although there have been questions about his motivation. Either way, I'd be shocked as hell if he went in the top 10. That being said, if the Bears view him as the top o-line talent available, I'd be happy with it.
  25. So we have FOUR 7th round picks??? Wow. I'd have been much happier with just one 5th rounder.
