    Peyton Manning

Man, I would have drafted him with my 4th pick in the talkbears keeper league. Thankfully Nopper beat me to it. Although now I'm stuck with Peyton's brother and that one dude who likes to ride motorcycles and rape women.

    Joshua Moore cut?

If he's bad, I'm glad we cut him. But I'm wondering why we couldn't figure out he was bad last year? So we just kept him for his potential which never appeared? Maybe I'm wrong, but it appears like we have a lot of really bad players at the bottom of our roster: --Enderle's bad & should be on the practice squad. If he leaves we can get Nathan Enderle. It's tough to immediatly cut picks. --DE's: We found not one but TWO UDFA DE's. I understand we need depth since Wooton is hurt, but there is no way in hell Nick Reed and Mario Addison are both ready to contribute in the NFL. --Dom DiCicco: I hope he's just here to keep Pisa's seat warm until he's healthy --Winston Venable: He'd better be one helluva a special teams player cause he won't play safety. --Kyle Adams: I know we like his potential, but don't tell me he's better then Dez Clark --Dane Sanzenbacher: We'll never play him because he's too damn slow. I hope like hell I'm wrong about these guys . . .
  3. In the Trib article, http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/rosen...,3929156.column Rosenbloom writes, "Word is, safety Brandon Meriweather is a Bear because Bill Belichick believes he freelances too much on the field. It also has been said that Meriweather piles up hangers-on the way he piles up interceptions, perhaps to the point that his posse has a depth chart." We only see these guys from the media perspective. So I'm always interested when a media guy mentions "hangers-on" which implies Meriweather has a lot of bullshit going on in his life that overshadows football. We've seen it with guys like Tank & Cedric. That being said, all I give a damn about is if he produces on the football field and I'll take him over Craig Steltz. But I have cautious optimism as there are red flags.
  4. I know they did this before cutting Leftwich and had some success. But Luke McNown and a rookie? And you couldn't make this decision last week??? I know there were salary cap implications, but when you make a decision this late, it makes you look unorganized and incompetent. For all the grief the Bears have taken the past month, like cancelling Family Night, the Chester Taylor FUBAR, if we were to randomly cut the best starter at any position 5 days before kick-off, I'd be furious.
  5. I like the onion, but we did just finish 11 & 5 and make it to the NFC championship game. Ever since Lovie's first year, our worst season was 7 & 9. Love him or hate him, he's been successful. Calling him an idiot is just stupid.
  6. Manning was a damn good strong safety and return man. The problem is, he sucked at free safety, and it took us 4 years to understand that. Granted, I'm glad we didn't pay him 20 million, but he's a better SS then Chris Harris. Not a great move.
  7. My uncles an Indy fan and when they signed Tommie he thought that was the best thing ever. Did anyone else breath a sigh of relief when Indy cut Tommie? Not because I wanted Tommie to fail, but because I was scared to death we'd regret the decision. That being said, every time we've let a d-lineman go I thought we'd regret it. Wale, Mark Anderson, Alex Brown, Jarron Gilbert, even that guy we drafted the year we took Grossman (Haynes?) I agree with what you said. Hopefully, Okoye & Melton will more make up for the loss.
  8. First off, several of the above commented wondering what his status would be. Until he's with the team, who knows? Major Wright's natural position is at SS. That's what he was drafted as when he came out of college. That's the position he played. With the addition of Brandon Merriweather who is more of a pure FS, that means less time for Major Wright in that spot. And because Major Wright is one of Lovie's coveted projects and a former 3rd round draft pick, the Bears are putting a lot of stock into him being a productive player which means they want to give him every chance in the world to succeed. Don't forget, D-Manning was a natural free safety. We started him at FS, then benched him. Two years ago, we made him our starting nickel-back, then days before the season started, we announced he would play FS & Nickel. Even more confusing: Chris Harris is a natural SS. D-Manning a FS. So we flipped the two. I bitched that we did it, yet it was the best move. I bring this up because D-Manning, like Major Wright, is a Lovie pet project. That being said, coming out of college, they said Major was a SS. Watching him play, he's too light for that position IMO. Moving Wright back to his normal position of SS next year would allow for both he and Merriweather to play at the same time and ultimately, that's what I think the Bears are looking to do. It really all depends on how BM fits in this season, but he is not just coming in here to "Fill in" for the injured. He's a talented athlete that's going to see the field quite a bit. Our goals for FS is simple: don't give up touchdowns. Don't bite on the run and watch your guy dancing in the end-zone. To me that doesn't sound like Merriweather. If Major gets hurt or is bad, I see us moving Harris back to FS. I would definitely like to keep Chris Harris, atleast until his play starts to decline, whether that be as a starter or backup. However, I'd seriously doubt he'd resign here if he isn't going to start. Chris Harris is like Anthony Adams in that we never seem to like him, yet they are still the best we have. We can worry about next year next year.
  9. Thank you sir! I was actually sitting here going, "Brandon . . . I think is name is Brandon. But am I just thinking that because we signed a safety named Brandon . . . and it was McGowan. That was killing me. As for your second thought on him not being an o-lineman, our defense is better then our offense. Why do we jump on the scrap heap to add defensive guys but we're happy with our offense??? Makes no sense.
  10. Good info. I actuallly looked at the Patriots web site to see if they still have the guy who was cut by the Bears (who couldn't stay healthy). He's gone and in fact they only carry two safeties. (as opposed to the Bears who now have 6) Still it's mind boggling that he was a first round pick 3 years ago, made two consecutivbe pro bowls, and now he's out. That being said, who's the safety whose name I can't remember? (it's killing me . . . )
  11. I was thinking that yesterday. More importantly, how the hell does a 27 year old who made two consecutive pro bowls get cut? It doesn't make sense. Not to mention, we like our safeties to be disciplined, and that's one of the reasons they gave him the boot. That being said, it's a one year deal that's probably cheap. Is he better then Craig Steltz and a rookie Chris Conte? Hell yes. Nice move.
  12. The nice thing is that he's only 27 years old and he's got talent. Now we just need to upgrade the depth at the linebacker position. Who are we dumping to make room for Meriweather?
  13. Also Chester Taylor. I read that on yahoo.
  14. Hasn't Hurd been injured most of the pre-season?
  15. He had a good chance of making it anyway since he was running with the top ST's. That being said, I have 2 questions: 1. It just realized I have not heard Gholston's name or seen him. Is he getting the Chester Taylor treatment? 2. Does Will To 'O Fu (bad spelling) make the team? I never thought we'd keep a fullback, but he was out and active early.

    SANZENBACHER

I stand corrected. Damn good first down catch. Dane's looking better then Roy Williams. Dane makes the team.

    SANZENBACHER

Don't get me wrong, I'm really rooting for the kid. He has some of the same intangibles that Earl Bennett has. Great hands, precision, etc.. Heck, IMO Earl Bennett is by far the best WR on the team. He's the only genuinely consistent and reliable WR we have. If it's 3rd down, I want Cutler looking his way. The thing is, Bennett's always been an afterthought due to his lack of speed, or whatever. Sanzenbacher is slower then Bennett and smaller. Bennett is listed at 6-0, 206 while Dane is 5-10, 180. Having stood next to them at practice, I'd say that's close to accurate. (as opposed to Hester & Knox who are listed as 6-0 but aren't) Pix's saying that 25 teams wanted to sign him just means he's a legitimate 8th round draft pic . . . Part of my reasoning is that he's this year "Mike Hass." (who actually did spend one year on the 53 man roster). Ultimately it will come down to numbers. Do we keep 4 TE's, 4 WR's, 4 RB's, 10 d-lineman??? I think you only have a handful of guys battling for that last roster spot and they all play different positions. Special teams and injuries may be more of a factor than a guys actual ability.

    SANZENBACHER

I predict he's cut and will make the practice squad. He's too damn slow. I just don't think we'll keep more then 5 WR's. (Knox, Bennett, Hurd, Williams & Hester) Either I'm right or I'm wrong. We'll find out next weekend.
  19. Yeah, the link to the story. Which basically said what you said. One line. That being said, PFT reported the Bears made an offer with a plan to move him to linebacker.
  20. Huh??? Not everything that goes to Cincy turns bad. Hell, they made Cedric look mediocre. Did you really need to include a link that says, "Mays traded for undisclosed draft pick"?

    Oline test

What scares me is that the Giants are rarely blizting. It makes me wonder if Coughlin & Lovie had an agreement, "don't go out of your way to kill my QB and I won't kill yours." Is it improved play of the vanilla defense?
  22. Damn. I'd have been happy to have jumped in if I had seen that.
  23. Who are everyone's keepers? The rules are we get to draft one player one round ahead of where we drafted them last year. I'm taking Arian Foster in the 3rd round. (I took him with the 1st pick in the 4th round last year). This beats the hell out of last year when I kept Tashard Choice in the 15th round (and eventually dropped him)
  24. Agreed. Not to mention, we keep hearing about teams who are all of a sudden desperate for a running back because of injuries (Detroit, Arizona, Texans). About the time we traded Taylor, Forte would likely blow something . . .
  25. I heard it wasn't heat exhaustion, but Cutler stabbed him in the gut after he let his man beat him for the 12th time in a row . . .
