Not a slip of the tounge. It's no secret how the Bears cherish their special teams players. It's a matter of fact the 3rd running back has to play special teams. As bad as Taylor has looked, I don't think we've ruled out the notion of keeping 4 running backs. Taylor would likely be deactivated pending injury. Last year we kept 4 TE's (Olsen, Clark, Davis & Manu). That will be reduced to Spaeth, Clark & Davis. I still don't see us keeping a FB. That being said, I think Taylor gets cut. I just think we're still considering it.
-
If you'd seen Roy Williams in real life you'd have to laugh at the notion of him not being shape. The dude is trim and cut. You take one look at him and you'll know he wasn't sitting on the couch eating Cheetos this off season. He's no Marcus Harrison. The SCORE mentioned football shape. Maybe cardio? I'm not concerned.

That's not exactly news since JA himself said they wanted to develop their young offensive linemen. But nobody believed it 100% since we went hard after Willie Colon. What's baffling is that we appear loaded with talent on the d-line, and we're ready to bring in Maybin as competition. Meanwhile, we have o-line guys who should be unemployed, and we refuse to make a move.
-
True, but on the d-line, we've traditionally not been that impressed with "bust ass" guys. If you don't believe me, how many times did we bench or deactivate Anthony Adams for guys like Tank, Dvoracek, or Harrison? We also kept moving Idonije around and rolling out Mark Anderson as a starter. We've been too concerned about "potential." Just when think we've learned our lesson, by cutting Mark Anderson and resigning Adams & Toeania, we bring in Okoye & Gholston.

This makes me sick. I can't believe Hester wasted illegal recruiting money on rims and an engagement ring. Maybe that's why he had a reputation for being stupid. The NBA tickets and food I get . . . On a serious note, Terra mentioned this being about ghetto kids never having anything. He's getting hundreds handed to him, getting free VIP treatment at bars and restaurants, and hanging out on yachts. Unless you're family's extremely wealthy, it would be tough for most college kids to turn that down. I've never known anyone who had that kind of scratch available. I don't blame him one bit.

Chester Taylor to the Texans might make sense for the Bears: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...-for-bears.html This is by Sean Jenson. The Texans have their 4 top running backs hurt so they might be interested in giving up a late round draft pick for Taylor who is due 1.25 million this year. He also mentions that Khalil Bell is a core special teams player and looked good Saturday. Meanwhile, Taylor carried the ball 3 times for 3 yards. I can't remember ever seeing Taylor with the Bears and thinking anything but, "He might be a servicable running back who blocks well." Marion looked like a freaking beast. On a side note, Unga rushed 9 times for 27 yards. There's nothing that indicates he'll make the team. On a second note note, if we kept a 4th running back, we might be better off bringing back Garrett Wolfe then keeping Taylor. While Wolfe is an inferior running back, he's a much better ST's player.

To me this seems more "agent driven." Even if the Bears have had discussions about him, the discussion could have been, "No way in hell we want to sign that dude." Do that many guys really want to play for Marinelli? Especially when we're not looking for a starter, we seem invested in Corey Wooton and we already have one top 10 retread on the roster. Hell, at 228 pounds, the only way we sign him is give him a 2 year deal and place him on IR. (I know teams aren't supposed to do that but I'm sure it happens.) Wooton is supposed to be back by week #1 or #2. As of right now, I think Gholston makes the team. You want your 5th DE to be someone young/hungry/cheap who has potential and is just thrilled to be in the league. This kid Mario Addison is a definite possibility . . .

We never had more than 9 D-linemen last year. Your list included Mark Anderson, and it also left me with two questions: 1. Who the hell is Barry Turner 2. What the hell happened to him. IMO, Harrison's gone. He was inactive all last year and showed up fat. I agree with the rest of your list. Although I will add, this group is far more proven then last years. We had no idea what to expect from Henry Melton and we thought Tommie Harris would be hurt all year. I can't see Toeania being active much. Although, we gave Toeania something like 6 million for 3 years. That an expensive back-up.

Jamarcus Webb sucks..he's a 7th Rounder outta nowhere. Get over it and end it Supposedly he has first round talent . . . Okoye has a ton of potential for us. Think he is gonna be huge and a steal. Gholston on the other hand looks rather lost. Agree with Okoye. Rewatch the game. Gholston looked good. Major Wright will end up killing someone or himself (figuratively). Plays with a ton of passion He could be huge if he stays healthy. Chris Williams truely stinks. After every play he stands next to ball and chews mouthpiece. Reminds me of the fat kid wearing the Darth Vader helmet from "Little Giants".. Typical Jerry's Kid Nice! Chester Taylor is packing his bags, in turn Barber is buyin a condo on the north side somewhere Yep. You can't have a 3rd string RB chewing up 1.2 million in cap space. Especially when the #4 looks better. Spencer will end up being the starter at G or C. If u are drafted to C, shouldn't you be a C? Of course it's Jerry. Louis is getting benched IMO. Garza will go back to RG where he's the most comfortable. Get 'er done. Conte missed a huge tackle near the end of the 3rd... Otherwise played tough He's looking better then I thought he would. By that I mean he's already better then Craig Steltz. Podlesh sucks - has a look that makes u wanna smack the smirk off his face, let that rookie play. Hell, Podlesh makes more then most of our offensive starters. I hope that kid Sanzenbacker makes the team... I still think he looks too slow.

Why is the #2 QB always the most popular guy in Chicago? Hanie would be a nice #3 QB on most teams and a bad #2. All Hanie proved in the championship game is that he wasn't as bad as Todd Collins. That being said, Enderle was sacked 5 times. How the hell do you get sacked 5 times against 4th stringers???

I don't think Martz control over the o-line. Maybe it's the media's portrayal, but I get the impression Tice has the final word on the o-line. Martz likes quick o-lineman that sustain long blocks. Meanwhile, we draft Carimi who specializes in run blocking. Daryl Drake was pissed at Knox's demotion. Lance Louis starts because Tice calls him "elite" . . . . Either way, Martz sure as hell doesn't like Hanie, but JA does . . .

No chance Melton moves. He gained 20 pounds in preparation of playing DT and he looked damn good Saturday night. He's slotted to fill Tommie's role which is viewed as the most important position on the defense. I predict we'll see him and Okoye starting on opening day. Not to mention, Gholston impressed Saturday. He had big plays including a tipped pass, shoving the OT into the QB and setting up the special teams fumble. As of right now, Gholston makes the team IMO. We could do one helluva a lot worse for a #3 or #4 DE. Not to mention, unlike Maybin, Gholston's in great shape. He's ripped and lists at 6-3 262.
-
Try safety. Hell, he's damn too damn undersized to play linebacker. Lance lists at 6-1 244, while #54 weighs in at 258. Per nfl.com Taylor Mays is 6-3 230 while Chris Harris is 6-0 211. Maybin needs to add at least 20 pounds of muscle. That ain't happening over night.
-
Not that I necessarily agree, but the "experts" have been saying that the most natural position for J Webb is LT and Carimi is best at RT. Carimi is more of a mauling run blocker and not as strong in pass protection. The Bears agreed with the experts. The thing I don't get about J Webb is that he's so big with the huge feet, he's always going to struggle against quick ends. Would someone remind me why Chris Williams was moved? Nobody ever said he was bad at LT until long after the fact.
-
You're correct. Williams is the LG. As for going into the season with the offensive line not sucking, I think that's inevitable at this point. If we could "bad" instead of "real bad" it would certainly help. After all the bad I've heard about Gholston, I was happy with what he did last night. On the one play he shoved the LT all the back into the quarterback. He set up the strip on special teams, and had a couple nice tackles. From what I saw last night, he makes the team.
-
Lance Louis admitted he played like garbage and J'Marcus Webb said that Merriman out hustled him. Note to young players: Don't speak after the game even if you're telling the truth. Garza also got burnt my Merriman. The first step should be benching Louis for Spencer. If we put Spencer at Center, Garza has to play RG (because of his missing knee ligament) and Chris Williams would move to LG. So you'd be changing 3 spots.

Excellent! Now I can waste a chunk of my Sunday "mock drafting." With no good sports to watch today, I was starting to worry I may have to be productive. -
I'm in Manito, IL, which nobody has ever heard of since it has a population of 1595. It's not too far from East Peoria, IL where I work and 189 miles south of Soldier Field.
-
On one hand I agree, on the other, why did Buffalo's d-line outplay ours? (I'm guessing it's because the o-line sucks)
-
Yep. Even Gholston is getting into the mix. Before tonight, the way the media talked, there was no way in hell Gholston made the team.
-
I do have to point out that he was running behind our 1st string offense against a 2nd string defense. That being said, he looked awesome. Especially after Chester Taylor did absolutely nothing. More importantly they keep talking about his great blocking.
-
Cutler's done for the night. In 3 pass attempts, Cutler was chased out of the pocket twice and sacked once. Nothing's changed.

By reverse order, do you mean if you finished first you pick 10th? I'll vote yes to that. I also would like to know where I pick ASAP. I vote to raise it to $30.00. -
Not only does he sport the bad facial hair but he also wears a fanny pack. True story.

Glad to have you aboard!!! It's nice to have some new blood. At times on here it feels like the same old guys with the same old arguments. I don't mean that in a bad way fellas. This is the only board I frequent and I love the fact there is such a core group of dedicated Bear fans. That being said, I'm not concerned about Major Wright, just his ability to stay healthy.
