  1. The one thing I'd disagree with is I think Carlson is more talented than a 5th round guy. The difference is the dude can't stay healthy or is inconsistent. So give him 25 million??? Wow that's stupid. I agree with you that like Greg Olsen he doesn't strike fear into an opposing defense.
  2. McCown's a veteran which means he's likely to earn 1 million per if he makes the roster. That combined with the 3.5 one year deal we gave Campbell, that's 4.5 dedicated to the back-up QB. From a football standpoint I love the idea. From a financial standpoint,it's terrible. These 2 QB's are making more than most the guys on our roster. Not good.
  3. Agreed about Davis. He's solid. Far from great. With the money Carlson got, it's important we resigned him. I agree about Okoye. I'm surprised we haven't made that happen yet.
  4. This reminds me of closing time and I'm drunk looking at the ugly chicks from the bar. When in doubt, try to take to home for the double team. It looks good at the time but it sucks the next morning. It's tough to distinguish any of these guys, and the only thing we get from the Bears is that we love Kellen Davis, who is likely drinking a beer at the Alamo as we speak.
  5. Considering the cap space we have left compared to what he'll demand, I don't blame him.
  6. True. Someone on here used to get totally pissed about that. Was it the capmeister? Terra liked to taunt him. I found it amusing . . .
  7. HIP HIP!!! HOORAY!!! Aside from Mario Williams, it's better than anything we could have imagined.
  8. It doesn't seem like it's free agency until we have an official "Sign OJ Atogwe" thread. Now it's offical. I was THRILLED with the Brandon Meriweather signing. Please do not bring in anymore high priced safeties. Thank you. Atogwe is cheap. He can compete with Conte and Major Wright. He's Better than anybody else we have. Get it done.

The safety position is close to becoming as jinxed as the QB position. Granted, we have about 50 years yet to go before it gets that bad, but it's bad. Conte seemed invisible this season. He didn't give up any big plays but he didn't many. He was one helluva an upgrade over Meriweather. We've invested too deeply in this position already to invest heavily. Resign Craig Steltz, sign a guy . . . this just made me realize I need to start a separate "Sign Atogwe" post. The "sign Atogwe" is a tradition around these parts.
  10. Actually, as per PFT, the Bucs gave Jackson 13+ per year for 5 years. Garcon is not great. WTF is Washington thinking? I'm still trying to get my mind around the fact we've spent 2 months debating V-Jack vs. Colston vs. the guys who got franchised, and we get BM? Effing awesome.

Meriweather cost us roughly 3.5 million to give up the deep ball and get us penalized. Hell, that's back-up QB money. Every year I get excited about our safeties, and every year the guys I'm excited about are terrible.
  12. Why can't you trade a pick acquired in a trade? That happens all the time on draft day. You can't trade a compensation pick for losing a free agent. When we received San Fran's pick when they tampered with Briggs, we couldn't that. While I hope we didn't give it up, we should be able to trade the Olsen pick.

Where's the report that Landry is visiting?
  14. This is what pisses me off about the Jason Campbell deal. After adding Jennings & BM, we need every dollar possible. We put 3 million to a back-up QB??? Terrible. That's a move you make after the market settles. Not 2 hours into free agency. I love the BM move. That being said, there's a reason you don't see the great teams like the Patriots and the Packers never rushing into free agency. Signing Campbell was a knee jerk reaction to putting our faith in Caleb Hanie.
  15. Yep. Peanut is now a pro-bowler and we resigned Tim Jennings. Grab a top CB early and hope to solidify things now and in the future.
  16. Looking at his stats, he doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade over Idonije. I just hope we don't overpay for him. On the first day you typically overpay (See Campbell, Jason)
  17. As per PFT. They say he signed for 5 years for 55,555,555. I mention this because while that's a ton of money, all things being equal, IMO the Bears could have had him for the same price. That being said, I'm much happier getting Marshall. Younger, better, and a good relationship with #6. It sucks to lose the #3's. The next Michael Okwo is just waiting for us . . .
  18. Any clue of what we're offering Mincey??? I can't get a feel for what he's worth.
  19. I'd love to run with 2 QB's and save the roster spot. If Cutler & Campbell both go down??? Forget about it. That being said, Campbell is too damn expensive. You can't pay your back-up starter salary. Rex Grossman didn't make near 3 million last year. I only mention Rex because he's an adequate back-up. If we have him instead of Hanie, we make the playoffs. If we're going to resign Cutler, we can't pay his damn back-up 3 million. I'm saying this because we have to draft a guy. Enderle ain't it and Campbell walks after this year. This is a knee-jerk reaction move by the franchise.
  20. Don't forget that right before we signed Julius Peppers, Angelo went on record as saying we wouldn't be major players in free agency. Then we go out and not only make Peppers one of the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, but we added Manu & Chester Taylor. I'll never forget it's 6:30 a.m., I'm driving to work and the SCORE reports Lovie if flying back with Peppers. By 10 we had a deal done. I couldn't believe it. Today my buddy at work says, "Bears just traded for BM." My response. "Bullsh--! There's no effing way. You're effing with me." I'll never forget the Cutler deal was April 2nd because I thought Boers & Bernstein were having a belated April Fool's joke. Like you I'm wondering what next. That being said, I don't see us doing anything as unpredictable as trading for Marshall anytime soon. We want Mincey, we want to resign Kellen, and we're interested in John Carlson. For the love of christ, can we please look at an o-lineman?
  21. The SCORE said Royal signed with the Skins. Although PFT says the deal is not done yet.
  22. The SCORE reports Marshall will cost us 9 million in cap space. We started with 22+ million. That brings us down to 14+ million. Things I'd like to see before we sign Campbell: Mario Williams (maybe not possible now) or any pass rushing D-end Okoye resigned John Carlson or any TE who's an offensive weapon that can stretch the field (not named Kellen Davis) Starting o-lineman LaRon Landry We can't find a back-up QB who's not awful for 1.5 million?
  23. The SCORE reported Jason Campbell will cost the Bears 3 million per. Shouldn't the Bears spend that money to keep Cutler upright? Or to give him a TE that can stretch the field? I agree with you we need a good back-up. But the Bears have so many needs, this is not a luxury we can afford IMO.
  24. It's awesome. He turns 28 in March and he's salary cap number will be one helluva a lot less than Jacksons.
  25. Moss was worthless in 2010 and out of the league in 2011. Off plus old typically equals bad.
