  1. 1. I really like Rashied Davis as a 5th/6th WR. He knows the position and he plays special teams. He's the kind of player you want filling out the bottom of your roster. 2. Agreed we need a dependable #2 RB. Is McGahee much of a pass catch? If we hire Martz, that's a must. 3. Vasher is good enough to make the team but not good enough to start. Is it now worth paying him a bunch of money to go away? 4. I think we owe it to ourselves to find out what we have in Knox and Aromoshodu. Marshall would cost draft picks and a ton of money. 5. Isn't Shepard about the same as Vasher?
  2. Agreed. It's concerning that it's between him and the Vikings QB coach. What the hell has the Vikings guy accomplished? It's interesting that Martz brings out such strong opinions in people. Most either love him or hate him. I like the guy because he is a proven OC who has had success. For me it just comes down to whether or not he'll tone down the offense. Either way, on paper he's far and away the best candidate.
  3. I personally don't want to see anyone who doesn't have OC experience. After Terry Shea, I'm just afraid you run the risk of gross incompetence. Not to mention, we can't afford to give up any more picks. I'd easily give up our first rounder for Cutler again. I liked the idea that we traded our #2 pick for a great talent who could develop. But no more please.
  4. Why would you even consider promoting a coach who was not successful? The only truly successful coach on the staff is Dave Toub. I figure we'll promote to DC . . . that way our defense will be mediocre and our special teams will suffer. This would be called giving him the Devin Hester treatment.
  5. It is pointless, but I've got to admit that I'm mildly interested for a change with it being before the Super Bowl. If the Bears had better representation I might actually watch it.
  6. Maybe the perception is wrong, but it would appear the Bears have their heads up their asses. After 3 weeks of searching we have no clue who our OC or DC will be. Why do I have a bad feeling we'll decide to promote from within, giving the jobs to Marinelli & Tice?
  7. Yep, I meant Fewell. The thing is, after the press Aconference I assumed we would either see, a) A slam dunk candidate hired immediately, like Fewell or possibly Bates, or A continuous revolving door of potential candidates being interviewed. It's concerning that we don't appear to know who we want and we're not making much of an effort to find that guy. I don't get it.
  8. Huh? Are you saying you want me to mail you a check or send you money via pay-pal?
  9. The article didn't say if this was Chud's decision or the Bears. I wonder which? You really have to wonder what the hell the Bears are doing. It's been 3 weeks we announced we needed a new OC & DC . . . why the hell aren't we interviewing anybody? Frazier turned us down, we interviewed the QB coach from Cincy, and that's it.
  10. I'm the other person who has yet to pay. Check or Paypal. Just give me the details.
  11. As per ESPN, 16.7 million. Wow. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?i...ce=NFLHeadlines Wale'd be worth it if we played really bad offensive lines every week.
  12. What about Rod Chudzinkzi, the Chargers TE coach? He's been an OC before and he helped Derek Anderson make the pro-bowl. None of these candidates jump out as being spectacular.
  13. Maybe, but weren't we genuinely unhappy with Ogunleye? We heard all season long that our safety play wasn't nearly as critical as getting pressure on the QB. Against good teams our DE routinely did little to pressure the QB. Upgrading the DE position was our #1 priority which is why we traded for Adams. Not to mention there are few available via free agency. One option is Henry Melton. Supposedly we've been thrilled with the progress he's made. I'm not optimistic. We've also looked at Jaron Gilbert at DE . . . but our DT position is still a mess. Mark Anderson showed signs toward the end of the year, but we've seen what he does as a starter. What's worse is that IMO we're likely to address the d-line with our 3rd round pick.
  14. Yes it's terribly sad, but how far do you take it? Should the NFL cancel all games and push back the Super Bowl a week? I'm thinking we should not even try to replace him. Keep a 52 man roster out of respect and only start 10 defensive players, leaving that LDE spot open for the season. If there were any of his family reading this board they would have spoken up when most were bitching about the trade. How about we have 2 Gaines Adams threads? One for expressing condolences and another expressing concerns about what the hell we're going to do next to beef up our mediocre defensive-line. Either way, debating about appropriate remorse is pointless. I sure as hell hope JA doesn't wait a week to figure out what we're going to do next.
  15. Disagree. It's incredibly sad for his family and an unfortunate death, but for the typical Bear fan I don't think it's too soon to start wondering: 1. Did JA do his homework? Did we know about the enlarged heart when we made the trade? 2. Does this mean we'll attempt to bring back Wale? With Mark Anderson being restricted, IMO it makes his return a must. 3. If there is a cap next year (not likely) do we get that money back? 4. Why couldn't this have happened to Brett Favre??? (KIDDDING!!!) I don't mean to be insensitive and callous but on a crappy Sunday in January when many of us our planted on the couch watching football, these are all damn good questions.
  16. Helluva a good point. It's important to remember this is entertainment and escape. The fact that we have original ownership is one of the things that makes this franchise unique. Not to mention, why would anyone subject themselves to rooting for the Bears to lose because you hate Lovie or the owners? That's not healthy. On that note, I promised a Cowboy fan co-worker I'd get a Dallas Star tatoo on my entire back if: 1) Farve has his spleen ruptured during the game 2) Farve suffers a Lawrence Taylor on Joe Theisman type injury 3) Farve suffers a Dick Butkus on Charles Hughes type injury (See, wishing for bad things is just sick, wrong and unhealthy )
  17. I thought the same thing. But this is just one position and Tice has a great resume as an o-line coach . . . which makes me wonder if Lovie will declare Tice to be the best free agent acquisition of the offseason. That being said, along with an OC, we need a QB coach, TE's coach, and probably a quality control guy or something like that. In other words, he'll still be able to bring plenty of his own guys with him.
  18. IMO he'd make a nice assistant to the Tight Ends coach.
  19. Everyone keeps talking about all the holes we have but that's not true IMO. #1 Priority: DE--We used our #2 pick on a guy who has lots of potential. #2 Priority: Either RT or LG--Omiyale looked pretty good at LG by the end of the year. We could move him to RT. We definitely need one o-lineman. #3 Priority: Safety--I'd like to see us get the guy from St. Louis. How many years in a row can JA take a guy in the late rounds? We basically have 2 positions we need to fill and I wouldn't be shocked to see us maintain the status quo at either. Granted, were likely to make a lot more moves, but there's nothing else major.
  20. You work 3-6? Yeesh. I think it's been slow in the news for Mully & Hanley. Today all they could talk about was Lane Kiffin going to USC. I still got the damn "Rocky Top" song it my head.
  21. Why is it New England never hires a bad coach? Yet the thought of the Bears hiring an inexperience OC makes my stomach churn. Where would Tomlin be without Dick Lebeau? Lovie's not interested in offense and Angelo's more of a defensive minded guy. Terry Shea was a guy everyone in the NFL seemed to praise as a great hire. While he had no talent, his decisions were horrible and he refused to adjust. At this point I'll take average competence over unproven potential.
  22. What if we gave up next year's #1 pick for a high #2 this year? Assuming a player like Matt Forte was available who we believe could help the team immediately. I throw that out because IMO, a scenerio like that is the only way we get back into the 2nd round. When we go to the Super Bowl next year it's close to a fair trade With the lock-out looming, why is everyone assuming Lovie will be gone? I can see him going 7 & 9 and being retained for one more.
  23. Which SCORE show was it? This idea seems ridiculous to me since, 1) The last time JA traded up was for Craig Krenzel in the 5th round, and 2) JA wants to win now. That means, at least to some extent, to hell with the draft. Everyone applauded Dallas for giving up so much for Roy Williams and the Jets for what they paid to get Braylon Edwards. I think most of us would have loved either of those two. On hind-sight, both teams over-paid badly. While the jury is still out on Edwards, Roy Williams sucks. We gave our #2 for Adams to get him in here, see what he could do, and get him ready for next year. The only difference in trading for him or drafting Dan Bazuin is that Adams has one helluva a lot more potential. Any player we give up for a #2 would weaken this team. To hell with that.
  24. After the Terry Shea experiment . . . and the John Shoop experiment, it scares the hell out of me to get any inexperienced quarterbacks coach as the OC. Hell, for as bad as Turner was, he should be in the hall of fame compared to other Bear OC's over the past 50 years. The worst part is, after we hire a guy who's never been an OC, we'll hire a guy who's never been a QB coach, and one who's never been an o-line coach . . . hell, let Dez Clark coach the TE's.
  25. I vote for one keeper (I was acedthesobrietytest . . . thanks Cedric) Also, I STILL owe $20.00. Just let me know who to pay.
