  1. Nor did Belichick's performance in Cleveland and Pete Carroll's performance in NE impress me.... "Way over the top" is what you want, especially coming from a Hall of Famer who played Defense....isn't that how Ray Lewis "appears"?
  2. What? In 2009, Singletary's start as HC: Michael Crabtree drafted #10 Round 1, (coincidently the 49ers traded their 2nd and 4th round picks for Carolina's 1st round in 2010) where they selected Mike Iupati and before that, in the same round, picked Anthony Davis. But getting back to '09; although Singletary didn't draft him Dalshon Goldsen (sp?) started to come on strong and five players made the pro bowl. Finishing the earlier comment on 2010, Singletary was still head coach when they drafted Navarro Bowman in round 3 and made a trade for Ted Ginn Jr in later rounds. (All of this was found on Wikipedia by the way...don't tell Brian). And who could forget: "Cannot play with them. Cannot coach with them. Cannot do it. I want winners." after he sent Vernon Davis to the locker room during the middle of a game against Seattle.
  3. Funny how this article leaves out some interesting information that Graham talks about in his experience with Baltimore. I found this by way of BleacherReport....(I know, heaven forbid). Don't worry Brian, it was linked to this USA Today article... http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2...graham/1840227/ Some excerpts: "Ayanbadeio started three games late this season at inside linebacker with injuries to Ray Lewis, Jameel McClain and Dannell Ellerbe. He recently ceded his starting job to Lewis, back on the field after right triceps surgery." "Graham says he knew he would get that opportunity even before practicing with the Ravens. He could tell from conversations with coach John Harbaugh, despite the Ravens having a surplus of capable corners in front of him. It took injuries to Lardarius Webb, Jimmy Smith and Chris Johnson to make it happen." So even with the Ravens, Graham (and Ayanbadejo) wasn't projected to be a starter. He's just (as some have pointed out here) being stupid because its an opportunity to pile on. He'd be in the same boat had the three other corners not been injured. Make the most of Corey while you can...now's your chance at the Hall of Fame.
  4. Right but it does fly in the face of most of the other articles you read where the Trestman/Cutler link could be amazing. It just causes one to pause a minute and not get swept up in all hoopla. And one way it does that is drawing comparisons to the Josh McDaniels debacle back in Denver, who by the way was supposed to be a great offensive mind.
  5. I know Brian, you've made that abundantly clear before. That you don't consider Bleacher Report legit. Nevertheless, its a source. And although you can "write whatever you want" into Wikipedia, most entries are backed by citations.
  6. Interesting point you make... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1487484...h-trestman-hire
  7. I'm not media but obviously I wasnt a fan of the Lovie release. (water under the bridge). But I have taken what Mad Lith suggested and a semi open mind to the changes. Am I excited? A little. Admittedly I was anxious to see who they hired. Now that's it's done, the real work begins. To the credit of detractors, Trestman must first prove himself. These first few moves are telling but really we won't be able to judge until the season starts anew next September. And as far as Chip Kelly and the Eagles "stealing the limelight". They can have it. It's better to work without the media spotlight in your face anyhow.
  8. Actually I'd have to say that the offseason in '06 (who knew the team wouldn't make another run at the SB? right away?), '09 (when Cutler was traded) and '10 (when Peppers signed on to the team) were all higher on the list....but that's just me. But like you, I'm welcoming it with my "glass half empty".
  9. Howdy 'neighbor': Thanks for the great insight. Looking forward to what is in store from Coach Trestman. Funny how some of the original thoughts you mentioned above are similar charactersistics we saw in Lovie ("player coach", no "exciting press conferences", little emotion) - which coincidently are a lot of traits that people listed they didn't like about Lovie. But I also thought, like you noted, he reminds me somewhat of Belichick as well..not just the sweatshirt but the cereberal unassuming approach that I've heard referred to. And I thought of this (along with the bolded above). I know you meant players as "his guys" but could be concerned with the role Trestman sees himself in if Emery is driving the boat and bringing in the coaches he wants to work with Trestman, instead of what Trestman wants. I would be curious to see what the conversation was between the two when/if the discussion came up about "who do you want as your DC, OC etc?" I recall Emery saying something to the effect of hoping to keep Marinelli and part of the Defensive coaching staff because they were the consistently strong part of the team, but that it wouldn't be required of the new HC. What I didn't hear was the Offensive side...did Trestman suggest Kromer and DeCamillis as his assistants or was this Emery's call? I have to think with Trestman being out of the NFL for awhile it probably was Emery's call...after all they weren't in Canada. Not that that is totally bad, as you pointed out, Trestman has been out of the NFL for awhile so it would be good to have someone(s) working with him that are in tuned to the idiosyncrocises of the NFL. My point and concern is, I hope that it doesn't turn into a dramatic mess just as the season is beginning to kick off because the similar philosophies weren't there.
  10. For that matter see where the heck Clutts went and see if he'd be willing to come back. Why did they ever let him go?
  11. All this and then some. Well played.
  12. To be fair the point he made is valid. Of the "retreaded" type coaches, the only ones really being mentioned for the newest rounds of hiring are the likes of Lovie Smith, Ron Turner and Andy Reid (who WAS hired) obviously coaches that were recently dismissed from the previous posts. Gruden, Cowher and Holmgren were mentioned early on but really didn't seem to gain ground after that with any of the teams.
  13. Money is still on Trestman or Arians. Think about it. Trestman wasn't really mentioned in NFL HC circles until after it was found out he was a candidate for the Bears. Then it seems one or two other teams started talking about him. I'm going to go out and predict Trestman will be it. And Arians will be backup.
  14. My money is on Arians or Trestman. And picking on either Thur or Fri works for the 19th deadline.
  15. In just a matter of three short weeks, all three teams with a winning record in the NFC North are done for the year.
  16. Ah, accusing someone of trolling. How classy. The "problem" with my post is that it shows you as incorrect. Something you are incapable of realizing. And the odd thing is we actually agree on the point of this whole exchange. That Colin Klein could be a good QB project for the Bears. But your arrogance gets in the way of admitting that it was the very same discussion we had a few months ago only then you were against it but not you're for it. And since I'm here, Terra is right in wanting to do FA before drafting a high round OL (when compared). And you're right that we'll need to find another one in a few years. But guess what, they'll be another available then too? And Klein will have had that many years in the league.
  17. So "try again" I will. (Feel like Yoda here). Anyhow, you didn't apparently read all of what I wrote or refused to. You "thought I meant" that wanted to pick someone like Klein in round 1 or 2. I did not. In fact referring to the Sports Illustrated article I read: "If he enters the NFL draft, Klein might go in the fifth round. Perhaps even the third." And this was still with him being a contender for the Heisman. So your theory that I thought he was deserving a 1st or 2nd round pick, even IF he had won the Heisman, is flawed. Heck the "experts" were even "demanding" it as you implied, not according to the article I referenced. As I said before...and again here "'they' are expecting him not to go early on drafts". The word "they" is in regards to the experts in case you were wondering who I was referring to. If you're referring to my "tounge in cheek" concession to you then you really don't get it. I did say that I would give you the 1st round pick for OL but said so in jest mostly to give you something to chew on. I went on to explain that I don't agree with it but instead would prefer value over blindly picking OL.
  18. Ok, then draft Klein in the 6th or 7th. Then he would probably be a value pick, if available.
  19. Apparently Trestman has weighed in to deny the rumors http://blogs.montrealgazette.com/2013/01/1...s-bears-rumour/
  20. So explain, if I draft a"starting NFL player...right off the bat" I would assume you mean somewhere in the first round or two? Why then would picking Klein in the fourth be not "worth it"? Especially if he's not going to be ready in 3-4 years? The team has Cutler. Shouldnt you have some developmental player (QB) on the roster? Especially with a new head coach who will probably be offense oriented?
  21. Nov 19 on Talkbears under the heading "Collin Klein": Me - "I know, I know, I decry the very idea of "mock drafts" but just finished reading the referenced Sports Illustrated article about the QB for the currently #1 ranked Wildcats. Base on it he seems he would be a fantastic pick for a town like Chicago. And "they" are expecting him not to go early on drafts... So why not? Please don't tell me "we need OL help"." You - "Horrible idea. And since you don't want me to tell you why, I'll leave the thread." However, in true "Jason" fashion, you couldn't resist.... Same string, your sidekick (in this case) Brian Bear joins in... Brian Bear - "This just has to be a joke." BB - "Right?" You - "Sadly, I'm sure it's not. Same thing every year...distracted by the pretty, shiny things and the functional, dirty things get ignored." And later, this in a reply to me: You - "Call it what you want, but anyone who wants to draft a QB for the Bears this year, unless it's a late round pick, doesn't have a damn clue about football. QB is probably lower than 10th on the list of needs for the Bears. " We continue to banter (at some point the word "sub-moronic" is used) and I continue to attempt to impress to you that I never said anything about a 1st round pick and conceded (after his team had just lost the 1st place ranking) that he should be looked at for later rounds. However, just by what you wrote more recently above you indicate that the QB could be addressed as early as the fourth round, certainly higher than the "10th item on the list". There were no strings attached or "extenuating circumstances" in our exchange. Nor did I suggest a "caveat" of releasing/trading Cutler for the opportunity.
  22. See link above. Maybe explains it a little better. But not so sure his re-hab will be as quick as you suggest.
