Nope, just that she’s not as informed or an insider as she may let on.
Look I used to be a semi-fan of hers when she used to be a semi-contributer to the LeBetard-Stugotz show while on ESPN. Since LeBetard went on his own I haven’t heard from (or about) her in awhile.

Well said and I ageee Pix. I wonder if behind the scenes Poles never really wanted to trade JF but wanted to put up appearances to help drive the market for #1? Not all that long ago many here and several “expert pundits” were speculating Justin might be had for a 1st or very worst 3rd round pick. And now, it would seem “no one wants him” is the new flag to bear. 🤷🏻♂️
Like I said in an earlier post, the lying season is indelibly strong this year.

I've been doing a deep dive in Waldron's offensive scheme and when I saw Swift get picked up, I looked for the similarities of Swift to previous Waldron RBs. Interestingly enough both Swift and Kenneth Walker's (Seattle's' lead RB last season) were very similar last year:
2023 stats
- Swift: 229 rushes for 1,049 yards (4.6 yards avg and 5 TDs) 39 receptions for 214 yards and 1 TD
- Walker: 228 rushes for 1,050 yards (4.6 yards avg and 9 TDs) 29 receptions for 259 yards and 1 TD
Swifts' offensive production, especially rushing, picked up considerably when he joined Philly last season. And although his overall average of receptions for his career is 50, he had his lowest last year at 39. And his ypa for rushes (4.6) has been pretty consistent with his career average (also at 4.6)
So on paper, it makes sense Waldron wanted to get Swift as he mimics his previous RB in a lot of ways.

Remember when we heard of a contingent of Bears staff flying private to the West Coast to allegedly talk with Kingsbury and ??? (Before he was hired in WA and the Bears had hired Waldron). Many speculated it was because Kingsbury best knew Williams as the OC in USC and that the Bears were set on getting Kingsbury.

I did as you requested and here is what I came away with (apologies to others for the length).
I should preface this by saying on another podcast Warner said he has never tried to project how well a college QB will do in the NFL. Just that he can comment on the traits of QBs and how he thinks they'll do going forward. Also of note, others in the social media world pointed out that Warner predicted Bryce Young and Zach Wilson would do great in the NFL, that CJ Stroud's play wouldn't transfer to the NFL and that Justin Herbert would struggle. For the record he still ranks this year's QBs as:
- Williams (although he does say he needs to see more tape on him)
- Daniels
- Penix or Nix (interchangeable in his mind)
- Maye (sorry Mongo)
- McCarthy
I watched pretty much the whole video you included and did some screengrabs in a few instances. Unfortunately, I'm not tech-savvy enough to stick them next to the narrative so they may have been posted out of order.
So about play 3-4 we see Williams do an RPO with a deep read. He opts for the deep read and overthrows him by a bit. The very next play, same thing but along the left side. Again, he overthrows the receiver.
Play 5(?) ends up having no receiver open to begin with so "he makes things happen" and eventually finds a receiver open. (Justin does this type of thing all the time and it's called "hero ball" and considered a bad thing).
About 8 mins in was a screen throw and an example of Williams being able to throw from different arm angles. Something we've see Justin do time and again. In fact some have commented on how often Justin has had his passes batted down. How much better do you think a QB that allegedly is 6'1" (and some change) would do compared to a QB that is 6'3"?
At about 9 mins in we see what you and Warner refer to as progression reading. I would agree, except... He starts by working from right to left. Warner in fact points that out. Williams ends up throwing to a receiver along the left side when a receiver is open on the right-hand side he was just "reading" (1st picture below).
At 16 mins. in we see him go to the receiver along the right side with single man coverage. Warner says he's not a fan of this throw but 'not mad at him for trying' (he missed). Meanwhile to his left he had the check down receiver and another receiver about 20 yards up field coming back open.
A question I ask is maybe he is better at middle of the field passing (Justin's weakness) but so far hasn't shown a lot of overly impressive deep passing success. That is unless you count the aforementioned improv play (aka hero ball).
Case in point: just around 19 mins he starts with a read on the left side and has no one open. Meanwhile he has a similar play development with a slot (?) receiver working back to open space and about 15-20 yards beyond LOS (picture 2). Instead Williams tries deep and gets the INT. Warner remarks? "Caleb tries to make too much out of nothing." (aka hero ball).
A few plays later shows the slot wr execute a hook route on the right side. Warner asks out loud why he doesn't do like he did before and throw quick to the open receiver (picture 3). Instead he takes off and gets the sack.
After watching this I would pose the same question to you that you ask of Fields. On those short and quick reads, how many of them are "scripted"? We see in the last illustration a play that he apparently has done time and again but misses the open read and takes off, only to get sacked. Warner mentions at the beginning of the video how this is Colorado and that they didn't have a very good defense (he admits as much in other podcasts of looking for stats and not how they do against ranked competition). Nevertheless, this plays into the concern (I have) when he is pitted against better teams. So far he hasn't proven he's really all that great against that type competition. His three game losing streak from last season sorta shows that.

Adam has asked that several times. DJ Moore has also repeated this commentary and said he brought it up during the exit interviews. My response to Adam (and others) is he could have left well enough alone and said nothing at all or just been vague in his response. Like ‘it’s been great playing with Justin and I trust the team will do what’s best for the team’. But he has been pretty specific. He also went as far as saying if he had to choose between the “top two” QBs in the draft and Justin, he’d choose Justin. (I’m paraphrasing of course).
Now ask yourself this. If the player you made ‘the move’ to get last year says all this AND has the career year he had. What weight do you think his opinion has? And no do I think he’s running the team.

If you have a QB as capable as Fields and with Moore…yes it’s realistic. DJ Moore has said it himself.
“His growth has been phenomenal. If you look at the games where he came back off of injury, he’s been everything you could ask out of a quarterback. Puts us in a position to win, getting the ball to his playmakers and if he’s gotta do it himself he does it himself and takes it like 50, 60 yards and does his thing. That’s all you can ask, is just steady growth and that’s what he did.”
And added that he and MHJ grew up together and ran on the same track team. He also suggested it would be “all love” if he were to join the Bears.
But what does Moore know? He only played with Justin and had a career year while doing so. 🤷🏻♂️

Seriously ask yourself this question again, what are the odds of one player busting (IE: Williams) vs 2-3 other high end players that could be gotten with trading the 1st overall? And consider one of those could be another first round for next year?

Ironic if Floyd were to come back to where he was drafted. Would that be considered a ‘success’ by Pace? After he left the Bears he was picked up by the Rams and eventually won a SB. More recently has been playing with Buffalo and is familiar with the Bears current DC Washington.

Still you haven’t explained how comparing ‘apples to apples’ between Williams and Fields collegiately makes you sure Williams will be able to make the NFL transition successfully. You’ve asked me to watch your films, which I will, but nowhere have you been able to explain based on his product and performance SO FAR that he’ll do better in the NFL than will Fields.

As awkward a scenario as that could be I wouldn’t totally hate it. As it stands right now, the Bears only have 5 picks in the draft. I’d prefer they have more. But this might be the compromise we all end up having to accept.
