He can block and he will fill the role he was drafted for. AP will not be our 3rd down back, as Forte and Jones talent will keep him off the field. 3rd and long will be when you see Wolfe.

As a 3rd down back, if he makes one play a game and contributes on special teams, he has value and matters. When Jones is healthy, Wolfe will be the 3rd back and AP will be a full time special teamer.

That's one of the reason's that the most improvement occurs in the 2nd year. These High School, then NCAA studs come in and really don't know what to expect when they hit the NFL. Unless you are an elite talent, you have to work. It's good to hear he's got it, as Cedric never did. Now's let's look forward to seeing he get's it.

I don't think they are all that similar. Berrians' is much better. Berrian doesn't have to become a stud reciever to earn his contract. Hester stands to lose a greater deal of money, if he under-performs. I like Hester's contract for us and Devin's growth. I think Berrian would have laughed at it.

It depends on how many years he has left on his rookie deal. It also depends if any of our rookies develop. If he could be brought in cheaply as a backup, if we let Rex go next year, it may be beneficial as we groom our 1st round QB.

Yes. If you draft a LT and he can't play LOG, you have majorly screwed the pooch. That's why I was do adamant about drafting two OT's, as you can usually convert them to OG if they need help.(It makes them more of a sure thing) Tackles usually have the premier talent.(That's why they make the big bucks) That's also why Albert rose so high in the draft, because he was rumored to have LOT skills.

Let's tear the contract up and do one up. Start with the greatest KR ever and he's only 23. I give him 4 years at 18mil, with 8 mil upfront and performance incentive. Now, to do his wr next. I want that on a 6 year deal with incentives everywere. If he doesnt hit his incentives he gets3 mil/year. If he hits them, he gets 5.5 mil. Now add the contracts los side is 7mil, high side is 10mil. Factor in the overlapping responsibilities you can the low merged would be 5.5mil, while high side would be about 8mil. So, I'll work him in at 5yr/35 mil(10mil guaranteed)

I have to disagree. You have equate that Hester is the greatest return man of all time, instant offense at times, provider of best field position in the NFL and future face of the franchise, on top of going into camp as a starting reciever. Hester does not have to prove to be a bona-fide #1 receiver to be paid as one. He's just that valuable in other areas.

Wrong. The Bears have been negotiating with Hester on a new contract. Angelo and Hester both made that clear. Hester is that unique and Angelo knows that. As I've said before, the scheme doesn't make Hester great, he makes the scheme great. Tell me this: How bad would have our scoring output been without Hester? Count the TD's and the field position. How many field goals did he enable us to get? I'm not saying give into his demands, because he has put Angelo in a position to where he can't give in. It doesn't mean it's not going to have an impact on our team though. My guess is that it will work itself out with Hester eating a humble pie then getting his money.

I posted this to equate to the Hester situation. It may belong in the Hester thread. Both are 3rd year players that have way outdone their rookie deals. Maybe JA and Parker will look at that as a reference. Hester should make no less than Colston, but not a lot more - IMO.

All told, we all know Hester has outplayed his contract. JA has a policy of NOT re-negotiating with 2 plus years remaining, but has shown a willingness to compromise to reward the elite of team. (Urlacher and potentially Hester) Here's what I think Hester should have done through his agent: Have Parker contact Angelo to come up with a PR spin as to why Devin is not in camp, with the agreement that he would not return until a deal was hammered out. Maybe this happened and Angelo hung up the phone. Anyway, we all know how JA likes to lowball to start negotiations off. Maybe that was enough to send Hester off the deep end. I'm really stuck in the middle of this issue. We've all talked about how unique Devins contract would have to be. I really don't want hear any crap about him being paid special team money. Regardless of position, he was aguably our MVP the last two seasons and an elite player. I don't believe for a second that the scheme or support personnel is what makes him great. He is naturally great. He is the best I've ever seen.(Including Dieon) If he's going into camp as a #1 reciever and the best return man ever, I have no problem paying him as a top reciever. That's how I'm on Devin's side. On the other hand, If I'm JA; I've been called to task by a 3rd year player being represented by an agent that I've always gotten good work done with. I'm hot as hell and have to make a stand and save face. So I tell him we'll get you a fair deal after you get your ass back in camp. Hester needs to accept the scolding and apologize to get his payday.
