WE better not let them back in it in the 4th Quarter. Here's when we find out if the Bears can deliver the knockout blow.
-
Defense really has stepped it up this half we've been enjoying great field position. We need a TD and need to get the running game going
-
Need to take full advantage of the turnovers. Two big detroit turnovers deep and we only get FG's out of them.
-
Fumble - Bears Ball!!!
-
That was a heck of a draw on that kick. Looked like it was badly hooked and came back good job Robbie 52 yarder
-
Good three and out Go Bennet
-
how many muffed returns have the Lions had I count 3 so far
-
Thats the way to start a second half TD Knox
-
it was horrible they were given that first TD every time they were force to the FG the refs bail them out with a penalty that gives them a first down. On that last drive the big run by Stafford should have been negated. The guy who could have tackled him was himself tacked by the offensive line. I'm so freaking sick of watching our guys get held and no call but anything that could possibly be a on the Bears is flagged. Now that said the defense is not holding up their end of the bargain. Way too many easy open catches for big gains. They are making the Lions look like a high powered offense. for the most part we've let them do whatever they wanted. Crappy/iffy calls and blatant no calls only add insult to injury. As it is we are tied 21 all and will get the ball to start the second half. Till the defense wakes out of it's coma the offense is going to have to keep the tempo up.

Comments? Regardless of what happens here we need to win today I'd like to see a decisive win but I'll take a win. GB wins and they improve to 3-1 and Minny drops to 3-1 and if we win we improve to 3-1. 3 way tie for the division with the 1-3 lions at the bottom GB looses and they drop to 2-2 and Minny improves to 4-1 and if we win we improve to 3-1. we would move into second place. I have to think that this matchup favors the Packers. Minnesota hasn't had a true test like this yet. The 49ers should have beaten them last week but due to a fluke didn't. The Vikings have been flirting with failure and this time I think it bites them. I personally don't see this one being lopsided either way but wouldn't be surprised if it did get that way. Either way it should be an entertaining game.

I'm all for a strong start we've started sluggish on both sides of the ball every game and I'd like to see us take our first possession and drive down for a TD. I'd like to see the Bears start out sharp.

Stop the presses Turner admits he was wrong? You're right admitting it and changing are two different things, but let's hope that he does in fact change it. I think he needs to change the way he uses wolf altogether. Running the shortest guy on your team up the gut is not a wise use. Wolf has speed and would be better utilized in the short passing game out of the backfield, RB screen, and outside runs to utilize his speed. We run him into a wall of defenders and you negate his best asset.

Thanks, that does make sense. if he were to field and and advance it out of the end zone into the field of play, retreat back into the end zone and be tackled or run out of bounds then it would be a safety. I just was wondering because he possessed the ball inside the end zone as pictured below, then retreated out of the end zone to down it. Not sure why he didn't just let it got through the end zone. no point in attempting to return that. But thanks for the explaination I wasn't real clear on it but figured it wasn't since the refs were right there and no one reacted to it and the announcers said nothing I figured it was legal. But this is one of my fav shots from the game. and this one

I was re-watching the game and got to thinking...Isn't this technically a safety? He fields the kickoff in bounds backpedals out of bound and downs the ball out of bounds? Always thought if you on your own step out of the back of the end zone it's a safety? I could be wrong if the rules are different on Kick off returns as opposed to being on offense and stepping on the end line. Probably a dumb question but curiosity. Along those lines the kickoff pictured here is the one following the roughing which honestly that's a worthless penalty to simply kick it off 15 yards further up field. Unless you have a kicker who struggles with distance it's going to be a touchback. Too bad it can't be tacked on to the end of the ensuing kick return.

Anyone else happy the Lions got off the schnide this week?

For this year Favre is in the NFC North who knows if it's just a one year thing or if he'll pull the retirement crap again this coming offseason. Or will he be back with the Vikings next year. But you are right if Stafford shakes out then the division could be interesting with four good competitive teams. The NFC North could become one of the tougher divisions in the next few years. When was the last time that all the teams in our Division were good? -
Makes ya miss ol Roy Williams during Lions week lol

I'm glad they got the win. It's really mind blowing to think that their last win came in the 07 season. That my friends is sad. They acted like the won the super bowl yesterday the coach paraded the team back out to celebrate with their fans. Having them get this monkey off their back is huge and it will take a little of the motivation now it has been mentioned that the last time they won two straight was when they beat the bucs and then us I think that was the 07 season as well. The lions are still a bad team. But I do give them credit for fighting and week one and two they put up a good fight for a while but eventually fell last week they beat a bad Redskins team I want to see us not only beat the Lions but beat them convincingly. We can only do so if we come out and establish the tempo early we need to dictate. You let a team like Detroit hang around you will be in a dogfight. -
That is my hope that it is mostly an in sync issue but that only excuses the offense this defense for the most part has been together for a while. Biggest problems I see is the obvious lack of wrapping up that TD by JJ would not have happen had one of the two guys on him wrapped up and simply pushed him out of bounds instead he breaks away from two guys who had him in their grasp and runs down the field for the TD. Effective use of the pass rush. I see guys rushing their way out of the play. Over running a running back It's good to come after the back and QB with speed but you need to stay under control and not run yourself out of the play. On the flip side the positive is that we didn't let that early slow start keep us from getting in a position to win. We were in position to win at GB and won the next two. They could have laid down and let the thing slip away. But they kept fighting.

he was getting stymied by a rookie in his third game. It's time to say goodbye to Tommie if that's all the better we can expect. Get someone in there who will make an impact.
-
Listened to it as well and he's not all negative, He pointed out many positives as well. He was ripping on Tommie and questioned whether our only constant pressure will come when we have statue QBs and below average tackles. He made some comments about the OL and the run game. first three hours of that conversation is linked on the score's website http://www.670thescore.com about half way down the page and to the right

I have to wonder if the hammy Forte tweaked this offseason in workouts is still bothering him. He looks like he can't quite open up or is tentative to open up. There also aren't a lot of holes to run through. Our biggest run plays have been outside runs. The thing with Forte is he looks like he's lost a little confidence.
-
the game could have gone either way but the Bears made enough plays to win so I wouldn't say we didn't deserve to win, In an ugly game we found a way to win. Should we have won with less drama, yes. But I'd have been ticked had we lost a game we should have won. We're 2-1 whether we won going away or barley won. There are things that need to improve but there are positives as well.

Let's not forget when he was drafted he was rated better for his pass blocking than his run blocking and that has played out true to form he needs to work on run blocking but he is young. Building an effective OL is not an easy task. OL is a group effort all pieces need to do their part. Each man has to execute his assignment but all 5 need to do their jobs for the whole to work. I do remember hearing that Beakman is waiting in the wings and that his play during OTA's, Training Camp and Preseason that Omiyale would be on a short leash. I would not be surprised to see Josh get the nod in the next week or two. Pace does look old. Kruetz time may be winding down he looks like he may be getting slow especially when he has to pull to block on screens. Now the thing we have seen with Kruetz is that he will try to help out a teammate who is blowing their assignment and neglects his. The OL is a mess. But so was Denvers, Jay is used to compensating so that does buy us some time to figure out how to plug some holes while the line gels I do get tired of seeing the line of scrimmage being re-established in our backfield.

excellent analysis. That doesn't even include Olsen and Davis (other than part of Jays numbers). Lots of positives going on here. As this season progresses I think the various receivers will find their niche in this offense and we will start to see this offense emerge and gain confidence. I love the fact that Jay is spreading the ball around. There was a comment that I think I heard on the pre-game that I'll echo, whoever is open is his favorite receiver. He doesn't lock on to guys and keeps his eyes down field and moves with intent to throw first run second. The telling thing is when you include the stats of the GB game in and he still is above average with his stats. We get this running game going and Jay can use play action he will scare the heck out of opposing defensive coordinators. He's more dangerous on the run than he is in the pocket. I like how our receivers are getting it as far as giving Jay a target when he is on the run. The more on the same page and the more trust they develop in each other the more effective they will be. another intersting thing is the stat he came in with is his record when opponents are held under 21. I forget the stat but this season he's 2-0 in that situation. GB scored 21 and both Pitt and Seattle were held under 21. THe former was a loss the latter two were wins.

Cutler is much different than Rex though they are somewhat similar in style. Jay has better arm strength, body, and mental control. I hear so much about Jay being a mental case and other fans and such think that he is basically Rex 2.0 and all you need to do is get into his head and rattle him. But what I've seen from him says otherwise. Put Rex in the same situation as the preseason game against the Broncos he would have crapped his pants, when adversity hits Rex would melt everyone knew it and so goal one in the game was to get him unsettled and you'd be gold. With Jay when adversity hits that's when he takes a breath and works through it he doesn't seem to focus or dwell on prior mistakes but instead focuses on making the most out of the play at hand. It keeps him calm and it's a quality that a good QB has. You are going to throw picks you are going to have bad passes, there are times where you may get striped of the ball, times when you hold the ball to long and get a sack or have to throw it away when you had someone open. We are so used to seeing these mistakes as the norm from our QB's that we've begun to expect it and when we see it we only anticipate more of the norm. That is how we've coped with crappy QB play over the years we've prepared ourselves for regular mistakes and misscues. Where Jay differs is he can fight through those mistakes and miscues. A bad start doesn't automatically = bad game. The better QB's in this league rebound from mistakes. I know that I'm so used to mediocrity form our QB's that when I see a pick it's so easy to start thinking here we go again. Fact is they happen. The important thing is how the QB comes back from that, do you sulk or go into a shell or do you just acknowledge the error and move on. Cutler is different than the guys we've had before because he can put it behind him and move on. When your in that offensive huddle after your QB threw a pick or two and his demeanor is timid and seems unsettled it spreads like a cancer to the rest of the offensive unit replacing confidence with lack of confidence. But if your QB approaches the huddle unchanged and encouraging his teammates to let it go and we'll get this one that shows leadership and the other 10 guys in the huddle can feed off that and you begin to build on the positives rather than dwell on the mistakes. Favre is a good example of this he has had a multitude of highlights but as had his share of low-lights as well but he doesn't fret because he believe he'll make the next big play or clutch throw. To be successful in the NFL you must have a short memory. With the Bears history we are used to dwelling on the mistakes. Knox has really stepped up. I was jazzed about this kid watching video of him after we drafted him. I had no clue who on earth he was till we picked him. He is ridiculously fast and shows very good instincts and body control and has good hands. That TD was a thing of beauty, he jukes a guy out of his jock then keeps his balance and stays inbounds long enough while being hit and knocks the pylon down with the ball. The game doesn't seem to big for him he looks comfortable plays like a vet. Teams will have to start accounting for him. How funny is it that the throw in 5th round pick in the Cutler trade turns out to be a stud WR. LOL Hester has really impressed me this year, he has consistently made big plays and key catches in the clutch. I like that he is catching balls with his hand then bringing them in rather than body catching. I'll admit my expectations of him were quite low I figured him to be little more than a gimmick WR who's only skill would really be burn his man deep for the bomb. While I don't think that he'll ever be a great WR I think he'll be more than serviceable. As far as the games go: In Green Bay as ugly as that game was we still had a chance to win it but in the end we couldn't make up for our mistakes. Against Pittsburgh we had 2 missed FG's in the Steelers game which would have made us down by 6 rather than tied on that last drive. We'd have had to drive the length of the field for a TD. Instead we had the luxury of milking the clock for the FG at the end of regulation. Worst case we miss and go into overtime. Had Reed not missed the FG's we'd have had one option score a TD or lose. With over 2 min to go and time outs plus the 2 min warning we would have had time to work our way down the field and would have been more aggressive. We very well may have won that one regardless In Seattle we had two turnovers early in the second half deep in their end which we got 10 points off of. They missed like 2 or 3 FG's in that game. In reality they very well could have been milking the clock on that last drive to give us as little time as possible to get in FG range to try and tie the game for overtime. In my book we were lucky they missed those FG's Their miscues bailed our defense out several times.
