Week 10 Official Game Thread - NYG @ CHI, Nov 9th, 12PM CST, FOX, CHI -3

Biggs had something a week ago breaking down the red zone issues - it was very good and highlighted how much penalties and the bad snaps really contributed to being too big of holes. -
He really has been playing well and making a ton of splash plays. He’s a great fit in Dennis Allen’s defense.
-
The trend has been solid too - let’s see them continue stacking and trending positive - and see more growth from offense and Caleb and cleaner execution. They do that and I think we will also see them start to show up against better defenses (may not be good enough given injured to D - but still would be even more progress!).

The oline with exception of Theo’s pass blocking has been very good of late. Theos run blocking has been excellent - his pass blocking is beyond bad of late. Wright has been downright elite - despite playing with one arm. Kudos to him, Poles and the coaching staff on this. And I rip Poles everywhere but outside of LT, it is starting to gel quite nicely on the line - a huge step up compared to last year. -
Bears trade for DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (CLE) and a 7th for a 6th

The Jets did exceptional. No clue why Colts did what they did - but they clearly believe in Daniel Jones. Cowboys got a great player - no idea why they did it now. -

I was so glad to see they basically did nothing. Was very against any big moves - but this is low key and basically gets you a former 1st rounder for what will likely be moving down 15-20 spots from middle of 6th round to early in 7th. -

I will say - Drake Maye looks very good. He reminds me of Herbert. Has played some bad defenses too (like Caleb this week) but he has looked the part. -

I agree - I expect a lot out of him, but I don’t see Stroud or Daniel’s crushing it this year. I see a qb being pushed a ton vs coddled this year. BJ didn’t just have him doing a bunch of shotgun / read option stuff - he has him doing playing behind center a ton - something he never did in college and which required new footwork etc. That takes time. He is 12th in yards and 19th in TDs. Great - no - but awful - no. His sack rate is down a ton - YPG is up - yards per play is up a qb rating and qbr are up - all in a new system. I see more good than bad, but acknowledge he hasn’t proven shit yet - but he also flashes some real good stuff too. -

They have had some good games with Dart and D is still banged up pretty good. I hope you are right - would be nice to get a comfortable W - with that said - I just want them to keep improving and grinding. Play your best game of the season Chicago!!! -

I think of it more of - they are that good and Caleb is certainly a part of it - but he also has a lot more room to grow and take it up another notch - which is real exciting! This team still has lots to work through - but I expect a lot of growth this second half of the season. Not sure they make the playoffs but this team is going to learn and grow a ton this year and a foundation for sustained success will be built. -

I was glad to see some young players show up today - Loveland had some big plays and Monongai was a beast. Caleb played good - still had some misses - but plenty of good too. Defense was pretty much trash - Higgins was absurd though and Joe throwing to those wideouts with our secondary is like shooing fish in a barrel. I hope Gordon and JJ will be able to come back and play meaningful football this year. Special teams - awful everywhere. But finding a way to win and getting TDs in the red zone. Rome - I expect you to pick yourself up and have a big game next week! -

Special teams is awful. Santos is either hurt or needs to be cut. -

The officiating was awful. Getting sick of it - so one sided. -

Odunze is not a bust but he’s going through some struggles catching. He also is getting open all over the place - it will come together but it is frustrating. Far from a bust and I expect we will see him bounce back. Jamar Chase had some cases of the drops early in his career too. -

He had barely played from center in college - Ben is having him play from center and forcing him to develop from there - but there wil be growing opportunities. Offense was quite good today which was nice - despite another couple drops from Rome. -

There is zero chance they should be looking at a qb change. Caleb is 1.5 years into his career and half a year into a new system. -
Yeah - bummer. Hope he recovers quickly and ends up becoming a dude for the bears. I saw where BJ talked about how he played a big part in the run d improving.

I think Ben is putting some emphasis on players this week - in particular with the penalties. It’s a long season, I hope we see a 4-5 TD outburst and a Bears win on Sunday!!! -

It’s interesting - Rome looks open from there. -
I think I with this past draft it comes down to best use of draft capital and the Bears just didn’t do it - period. With that said - I expect Loveland and Luther are both going to be good football players - they just weren’t the right picks or right positional value with the Bears. I do think both are very good prospects though at their position. Trapillo was solid value and I haven’t seen any reason to think he couldn’t become a good RT, but like the guys above, not right use of draft capital relative to roster. Bears literally took a guy top 10 at position 2 years earlier. So unless they plan on flipping Wright, it’s bad roster construction. Shemar looks like the worse pick in terms of production - but in fairness injuries - but at least he was a pick on the dline, which was an area of need. Poles did do a good job on both oline trades and Dalman is fine, but good god did he piss down his leg on his defensive free agents, yet again. But it’s his sheer waste of relevant draft capital and inability to hit big in draft with roster construction that leads me to believe he is bad. I hope I’m proven wrong though.

Especially with two elite wide ups going against our preseason #5-7 dbs (JJ/Gordon/Stevenson/Smith out). Hopefully Stevenson somehow is back and healthy. -
Red Zone efficiency is probably the entire difference between first few weeks and last few weeks in all honesty.
-
Caleb is part of the problem but there has also been plenty of good too. He has to be better and more confident throwing guys open and getting through his progresssions but he has had his positives too and has massively reduced his sack rate. The whole offense continues to false start (literally and figuratively). Too many mistakes between penalties, drops and poor execution too - in particular in red zone. Even mediocre red zone execution and we are having a different story. I expect to see real progress these next few weeks. Let’s see Bears dig deep and grow vs wilt!!!
-
I want to see Caleb take a big step forward next week and play his most complete game of his career!
-
Maye is a specimen.
