Simple Question: How does Frank Omiyale still have a job?
DABEARSDABOMB replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
Williams hasn't been great, but he also hasn't been the problem either. -
Noots, I usually like your stuff but this week I disagreed with you a lot. You were overly harsh on Cutler, who still played a very good game, especially when you factor in the play of the o-line, the blitzes he saw, and the lack of support from Forte. The picks and the loss prevent him from getting an A, but he deserved a B (B- at the worse) for his performance. Heck, given how he played in the 2nd half, I'd get close to giving him a B+ but at the end can't because that redzone pick was costly. Running Backs - You are being way too nice. Forte might not have had good blocking in-front of him, but he's been one of the worse starting RB's in the NFL this year and last night he was awful. There were a few times where I thought I saw holes and he would not hit them with any authority. He's playing passful and its pretty dissapointing. Garret Wolfe has been more explosive and a better runner so far this season. The Backs deserve an F since our starter has sucked so badly. Receivers were strong. Really can't fault anything from there game. Would have been great if Clark could have hauled in that 4th down reception but regardless those guys had an A- type of game and made some big plays. Plus, along with all the receiving yards there were the PI yardage as well. On the defensive side, completely agree. As always though Noots, I enjoyed your pieces. Just thought you were too harsh in some areas and not harsh enough in other areas.

Are there any big time FA Olineman this year? Cause the Bears need to sign at least one, especially given how few draft picks we have. -
If we don't win, than we deserve a new head coach and with Cutler at QB plenty of good coaches will be lining up to take the job.

Time for Beekman to start. -
The Bears tried a play action, a run up the middle, and a sweep. I don't see too much wrong with that. They failed on all three and on two of them it didn't even look like we had an oline...so ya, again, I'd put that on the freakin line and our back who couldn't hold onto the freakin football.
-
The sweep wasn't on 4th down. It was 3rd down.
-
Rip on Turner all you want, but when you can't hammer it in from a few inches away and you try a run, pass and another run, it ain't the OC. It has to do with the horrendous run-blocking and the even worse running by Forte. Forte is our 3rd best back on the roster right now, behind Wolfe and Peterson. Both have been far better and Forte has been one of the worse backs in the league with the exception of one game against Detroit and even in that game he looked bad with the exception of a few big runs. Forte has zero burst right now. I just hope he's still hurting a bit and that there isn't more to this.

I was at last years debacle. Lets get some revenge this time around. Big game for the Bears, easily our toughest game on the season (on the road @ Atlanta...tougher than vs Pitt (w/o Troy), imo). Gonna be a huge test and I'm excited to see what the Bears show us. Lets go Bears!!!!

I'd consider it, but I certainly wouldn't give up a 3rd round pick for him.

Anybody watch the MNF Game Yesterday? Bears Related
DABEARSDABOMB replied to Noots's topic in Bearstalk
I think this comes down to Turner having a preference for a different type of fullback in his system and I don't agree with that preference, especially since McKie is pretty poor. -
Definitely our toughest opponent of the season. I hope we show up ready to play and that we play well.
-
Wasn't Currie hurt his entire Bear career? Bradley pretty much was too so I don't see how you can blame Turner for those two.
-
Ya, I saw it right when it happened and was like oh shit, I hope they don't challenge this.

I'm lucky enough to watch Bears game with a former college coach who now scouts part time and works closely with Bill Belliceck. Prior to being a college coach he coached at a premiere SoCal high school which had produced a copy 1st round picks in recent years. Usually we only chat briefly (he's a die-hard Bears fan and has turned down a couple jobs with the Bears over the years, in scouting roles) each week about the team, etc. But this past week we were talking a bit more extensively and he was telling me about the Bears coaches and what he thinks of them and what he's heard from his colleagues around the league as well as something about a few players. The big things he told me were the following (and again, this is just one opinion, although I'd qualify that point by saying it is a pretty well respected opinion): Ron Turner - One of the 5 best offensive minds in the game. Around the league he's very highly respected and he gets a lot of credit for getting as much as possible despite poor lines and mediocre talent. Brian Urlacher - Been a league average linebacker at best the past couple seasons and that is a league wide reputation. Lance Briggs - One of the 3 best LB's in the game and he should excel with Urlacher out

Lets keep the winning streak rolling!!!!

Cutler has been absolutely brilliant these past two games despite lots of pressure, etc. He's also shown the ability to be a leader and that he's very resilient as evidenced by his ability to lead this team on go-ahead drives during the 4th quarter of each of our games. Yep, when you got a QB like that, you should be optimistic, imo. Add in WR's who are growing, the fact that our oline will get better as the players build chemistry and the fact that our RB, whose legit, hasn't gotten going, and I'm very very excited. Lets take care of business against Detroit and head into the bye week at 3-1.
-
I'd say the coaching staff has done a great job making adjustments and right now it is just taking a bit for guys to get in sync early in games and I expect that problem will go away shortly. This has been the best coach season by Lovie thus far, imo.
-
Enouhg of this shit, time for the win.
-
Yep and it is why I wasn't so pissed when Urlacher got hurt. I thought it was time for a new voice and a new leader to emerge. Briggs is the best player on the D and is now fittingly the leader.

Welcome aboard!!!!

He pretty much has a series of one year contracts going forward which pay him pretty good money. And to cut him would essentially cost nothing at this point, so I would think the Bears would be better off looking elsewhere and getting the consistent DT than putting good money into a DT who has been breaking down for a number of years and is only getting older. I can never see Harris even being a shell of what he once was and therefor I think the smart thing to do would be to move on at the end of the season. I could also say we could renegotiate and use him more as a part time player, but I don't think he'll do that, and I'm sure some crazy team like the Redskins would pay him based upon his past reputation. The sad thing was, at one point, Harris was by far and away the best DT in football. I love the guy and like his attitude for the most part, but I've gotten sick of the act and I don't like when guys can't stay on the field and perform. It really is why I haven't been so concerned about Urlacher going down (even though he's much better than Hill) and I look forward to seeing how the Bears can maybe find a new MLB starting next year (as I never supported Urlachers extension).
