2008 draft class
Also, didn't Chris Harris make the pro-bowl. So I'd say he's found 4 pro-bowlers in his tenure while never having top picks. And when you look down the list of position pro-bowlers they are typically 1st rounders from what I recall so I'd say Angelo is on the better end of things as a talent evaluator. In fact, I feel he is an elite talent evaluator on the defensive side of the ball. Sometimes he gets a little too caught up in things and doesn't go based upon need and we get burned ocassionally but as a whole he's done a real freakin good job drafting NFL talented players and in various rounds to boot. That is impressive, imo. He also is the guy given a lot of credit for finding the talent in Tampa so I'd say he has a long track record of being an exceptional talent evaluator.

2008 draft class
Very few high end draft picks though. And I'd go by the number of pro-bowls as opposed to anything else. Plus, didn't Tillman/Vasher make a pro-bowl or am I mistaken. Both have been near pro-bowl caliber players at different points in time of there careers. I swear Vasher made the pro-bowl. So all things considering I'd say he's done pretty bell. Berrian was a borderline pro-bowler too, but at a position where it is very difficult to make the pro-bowl.

2008 draft class
I'd say that is a pretty good track-record of drafting. Now some of the players didn't become starters on the Bears but that is a whole lot of guys who have gotten significant playing time in the NFL as starters and a few pro-bowlers.

Other OC Candidates
Also of note, the Bears have not yet contacted Mike Martz.

Other OC Candidates
Both have done exceptional jobs with young QBs. I also recall Clements being highly regarded. He could be a great option as well.

2008 draft class
Last year you could have made the case that Forte was better than Johnson because he carried the load and had less around him. Clearly Johnson backed up his rookie campaign and is now the best RB in the NFL.

2008 draft class
Forte was the best rookie rb in the NFL last year and played this year on one leg most of the season. I'd be hard pressed to not see how he isn't considered a bonafide starter. He was one of the elite RB's in the league in his rookie season. Yes the 2nd year wasn't so good, but most teams in the league would take Forte and start him. Bennett is a borderline starter and a very good 3rd wideout and as much as you guys are ripping on Harrison, he's two years into the league, has a lot of talent, and appeared to be humbled by his 2nd season which could be a strong indication that he has a pretty big season next year.

2008 draft class
That type of draft is incredibly rare and it is what seperate the elite GM's from the not so elite. Angelo has a pretty darn good track-record at drafting talent and a lot of you guys constantly under-sell him and the organization, imo. Go down the lists, pick even the great teams, and you'll see most would be pretty exstatic to have that 2008 draft class.

How soon do the Bears announce replacements?
Bates won't go to Washington, imo. I also think he should be an offensive assistant, not the OC. Get him in as the QB coach and have him work with a Weiss or Martz for a few years with the plan of having Bates take over when Weiss/Martz excels and gets a new head coaching job. That should be the plan. It might now work out that well (ie, the guys excelling) but that would be my plan.

Next defensive coordinator? Meet the candidates
Zimmer's experience in the 4-3 and 3-4 would make him a very intriguing candidate. I would be exstatic over him or Fewell.
-
Next offensive coordinator? Meet the candidates
I believe Bates called the plays in Denver his final year there. He just didn't have the title of OC.
-
I might be okay with this
Al Saunders would be a fantastic hire as well.
-
Perry Fewell for DC
Buffalo had a strong pass defense despite a lot of injuries. Fewell would be a real real nice fit, imo.

I might be okay with this
NFO, I'm settling into your camp and I'm quietly optmistic based upon the names I've heard from the media.

Cutler "Coach Killer"????
Ron Turner is too much of a professional to say that. Say what you want, but he is a professional and wouldn't stoop to those levesl. I assume it was Pep.
-
Score (Haugh) reporting Marinelli not the DC
He turned the job down last off-season as well because he wanted to focus on his roots, ie, the dline.
-
Score (Haugh) reporting Marinelli not the DC
I'm ok with this. I like what they are doing. If they weren't going to oust Lovie, go high profile on some coaches. If you hire a high profile OC, than you at least can tell him he'd likely survive a potential firing.
-
Turner gone, Marinelli Won't be DC
Excellent. I would like Buffalo's interim head coach that just got let go for that job. At OC, I would like a high profile hire. A Mart/Weiss. At QB coach, again, go big or go home. Jeremy Bates would count as big, imo, as would hiring a guy like Jim Zorn.
-
Turner gone, Marinelli Won't be DC
You guys are under-estimating Marinelli. Still, I was hoping we'd keep him as the Assistant Head Coach/Dline coach and bring in a different mind-set as the DC so we could run a variation of the Cover 2.
-
Your Fired!
Sounds like a lot of PR coming out that wholesale changes aren't coming. I'll be freakin pissed if we at the very least don't bring in new offensive coaches and a new DC.

Cutler Trade Year 1 Review
I'd do the trade over in a heart-beat.
-
Hester handling all return duties
Hester needs to be traded or put at WR. He isn't the Bears best return-man and he probably has value. I dont' mind keeping as a wide-out either though, if the value isn't right.
-
New WR Problem?
I would trade the two for a 1st and a 4th. I don't know if anyone in the league would make that deal though. And I really like Tillman.
-
I just lost some respect for Jaws
But given our offensive problems, 20+ TD's and under 20 picks wouldn't be all that bad from our QB, imo.
-
Piso wants to come back
I'd rather keep Jamar Williams, but Piso is a solid player and I'd welcome him on our club. It also depends on who our coach is and what defensive scheme we are running.
