Closing the book on Season 3, this is where Fields ranks as a passer (All-Time), in 53 qualifying QBs with 38 or more starts in their first 3 seasons: Passing yards - 3rd lowest (6,674) Completions - 7th lowest (578) Attempts - 3rd lowest (958) TD Passes - 10th lowest (40) Sacks - 4th lowest (135) Wins - 2nd lowest (10) 4QC - T-last (2) GWD - 2nd lowest (3) Since 2000, 33 QBs fit this criteria: Passing yards - Last (next closest, Leftwich +1,209 yds) Completions - Last Attempts - Last TD Passes - 2nd to last (David Carr) Sacks - 4th to last Wins - Last 4QC - T-last GWD - 2nd to last (3) QBR 56.3 in 2022 > 46.2 in 2023 (-10.1) QB Rating 85.2 in 2022 > 86.3 in 2023 (+00.9) From 2022, in the same system, with an improved O-Line, a true WR1, playing the last place schedule, Fields numbers should have been better by default, even if he didn't improve. They weren't. There is really no debate on this. In my opinion, Fields has plateaued, just like in the GB game, teams that fill the escape lanes make him one-dimensional, taking away his greatest strength. What is left is a subpar passer capable of occasional highlight reel plays. The inconsistency week to week shows that you can't win on the broken plays every week, because they won't always be there. At this point, Poles has to figure out if he can make the team around Fields good enough to compensate for the QB position, or replace Fields and saying the QB position is what is holding this team back from success.

Again my assessment means absolutely nothing. I am just going off the other trades with players either near Fields in terms of production/years of service, or draft status. Those are the two I picked. There are more but those seem the most the relevant to Fields.

Just like the anything comments thread, if you have something that is not worry of starting a new thread about, and it is related to free agency, the draft, or coaching changes, post it in here. This will be pinned at the top for easy access, twss.

Yep, I agree, 110%. If they stick with everyone, I will be disappointed, but I will still support them. If they blow it up, it will be exciting to see what they do next. I just hope he makes the right decision. I know there is talk about what happens if the Bears keep Fields and Caleb Williams or Drake Maye become the next Stroud, or if they draft Williams and Fields balls out. Nothing external matters as long as the Bears get it right internally. The QB they keep needs to be a top 12 Passer next year and score TDs in the 4th quarter. If the QBs that go elsewhere excel, who cares.
-
Yeah, it's 1, 2, or 3. Poles runs the draft. It is arguably the biggest decision for an NFL GM in as long as I can remember. Can you remember another team that had such a high stakes decision like this in recent memory?

After seeing Lance go for a 4th round pick makes me leery. There is more bad tape out on Fields than good, and definitely more bad tape than Lance ever had. For Sam Darnold, the Jets got a future 2nd, future 4th, and current 6th rounder, and even he was more accomplished as a passer than Fields when he was traded. The Darnold trade is probably the starting point. Also, CAR is a terribly run team, no other team in the league is giving that up for Darnold. So for Fields, I believe it starts with a 3rd rounder at best with a late future year 4th or 5th thrown in.

I don't think any team is trading a 2nd for him. There is a huge risk that he doesn't improve. He is so late in his development that very few QBs turn it around, the numbers are astronomically low considering his current numbers. The new team also has to consider it would be his 3rd system in 4 years, which is not easy for a lot of QBs, and doesn't seem to be Fields' strength. I am thinking a team like Buffalo or Baltimore would be the best fit if they wanted him in a backup role for Allen or Lamar. He could even come in for wildcat and trick plays to get him used to the playbook. Any team that takes Fields has to sell it that they can turn him around in the first year. Like he doesn't get an entire season to figure out the new system. The team that trades for him is assuming he is ready and they are only a QB away.

I know this sucks to say, but that game really hurt Fields' trade value. I don't know what team looks at that performance and says I want that guy and I am willing to give up a top 60 pick for him. Just two weeks ago, Bryce Young put up 312 passing yards, 2 TDs on the same defense. I would say his value has dipped to a 3rd and maybe a future late round pick. I doubt any team in the first half of the draft is going to give up a top 50 pick for Fields seeing that performance. Not that fantasy pts mean anything, but they are honestly a quick way to see if a player did anything of value at their position for the game. Fields had the 4th worst performance against the Packers this season, only Winston, Rypien, and Pickett were worse. Tommy Devito, Jimmy G, Derek Carr, Desmond Ridder, Russell Wilson, and even Nick Mullens last game had a better game than Fields, and Mullens came in, in relief of Jaren Hall and only played a half of football.

The best option for Fields is to go somewhere and sit for a year or two. He has taken a beating.
-
Going to 2 or 3 seems like the most likely option if they don't use the #1 pick. I don't think they go lower than that.
-
Trades are still in play for both of the picks I believe.

I do feel terrible for Fields, he is such a warrior. He went the entire season without a single call on those late hits. That was BS.
-
I have no clue what he is going to do, but the progress has to be assessed on it's own. If they throw away last year fine. what were the goals this season, and if they were met, cool, but if not, then thats cool too. Flus' teams have only beaten Goff and Murray as average to above average QBs. Fields has NEVER won when the opponent scores 21 or more. The division record for me is the kicker for Flus. It's great that you went 5-6 outside of the division playing the last place schedule, but only going 2-4 in the Division this year, and 0-6 last year is terrible. Rushing 4 when you absolutely need pressure was the kicker for me. He went passive when they needed to be aggressive. Playing soft zone against a Shanahan offense is shooting yourself in the face.
-
Flus has 10 wins in two seasons and is only 2-10 in the Division in the last two years. Poles motto is "take the north and never give it back". If you can't even go .500 in your division, you are not even close to "taking the north". So to me that is the more damning stat. The Bears needed at least a 3-3 record this season in the division and couldn't do it. Also, the Bears finished LAST in the Division again. So as much as you can point to win-loss improvement, it didn't mean squat in the division. He is out.

It may not be the most popular route to go, especially because Fields is such a great leader and teammate, but this group has won 10 games in the last 34. A 10-24 record. Fields is 8-22 in those games and 10-30 overall. This is not a tough decision. There is no way Fields returns. For Flus, you have to win the Division before you do anything else. He is 2-10 in the Division. I could care less about the improvement. It was clear it came from player acquisition and health, not some Flus magic. The Sweat trade and the players coming back from injury turned the defense around. Playing CAR, ATL, and ARZ helped. Also playing MIN with Dobbs. They are 1-3 in the last 4 games against real teams, 1-1 against DET, loss to CLE, loss to GB. Those are the only games that matter. I feel like I had some recency bias lately and the wins, because they are so rare were fool's gold. The Bears were beating bad teams, like they should. The roster is solid, but there are still holes to fill. I feel like the team would be stuck in neutral if they run this back. Could they make the playoffs with Fields, sure, but that is not saying much. This offense scares no one. The same QB that played against ATL at home was AWOL today in GB. That is sad and unfortunate, but it is the reality of the league. Take the name out of the equation, and just look at the body of work. It is subpar and the QB position needs to be upgraded to take the next step.

I have been teetering on the fence to keep Fields or draft a QB. It is really a tough decision, but today made it very clear for me. The entire time it has been talked about that the offense looks like gaining yards is tough, scoring is tough, well today that was on full display. They had nothing to lose and that is how they played. The Bears offense scored 9 points. If I am an offensive player, I am embarrassed. The only highlight is Santos broke Gould's record for FGs in a season, but the sad part is that means the offense left A TON OF POINTS on the field. I do not control what Poles does, but if I had a vote, I would go with a clean slate, new HC, new OC, and new QB.
-
Bears lose, draft #9. They got 2 top 10 picks! That is the silver lining. You feel ok taking a QB knowing you have a 2nd top 10 pick.
-
Yeah, even in wins, most were brutal unfortunately. There were about 4-5 good games, the rest sucked, and the year before all 17 sucked.
-
For how bad we felt the defense played, they only allowed 17 pts.
-
9 points on offense
-
Welp, thats it boys.
-
Game over, even if they stop them, it will be 15 seconds left to go at least 60 yards. Fields last drive as a Bear, with a chance to tie the game, in the 4th quarter, they gained 18 yards and had to punt. Unfortunately, the Fields era is over.
-
Love has torched this soft coverage, but the Bears have made it super easy. The TE came out late, so no one was assigned to him in coverage? He was wide open.

On 3rd and 8 on probably the most important play of the game, you rush 4, seriously.
