That's only if you use read option. The Pistol has nothing to do with whether a quarterback gets hit or not. It's just a different formation. Not sure how much read option we would run here, if any, but you can run a variety of plays that aren't part of the read option package out of the pistol. Look at what the Buffalo Bills do, and the Lions, and Chiefs.

The most glaring thing to me from the entire press conference is that he did not call Cutler a franchise quarterback. Doesn't mean he doesn't see him as part of the future. I just took that comment as someone telling him that he has to "Earn" it, and a contract extension, at least this offseason, doesn't seem likely.

Yeah, I didn't really like the vagueness in some of his answers regarding players/scheme etc.. It's not a terrible thing that he didn't talk about it, but as a fan, you would certainly like some sort of idea of what the team is going to play like, style wise, before 3 months from now. His answer about the 3-4 4-3 defense was odd. He said he wouldn't know until a few months after analyzing the players.. Then how will you even be able to hire a DC if it's going to take you that long to figure it out? He knew more than he was telling us, and that was a little frustrating.

That's a damn good staff. Hard to believe Emery would pass that up.

I heard a stat that was thrown around on the radio this morning. The year before Trestman came to the CFL, the Montreal team gave up 68 sacks in just over 600 pass attempts. The year he arrived, they only allowed 22 in just over 700 pass attempts with largely the same group. So there's that.. I think the Kromer hire is very encouraging sign that things will start to get better in the O-Line department.

Sounds like Greg Williams would match Trestman's approach to defense .

How does his offense rely on deep drops? Everything I've read about him says he's a West Coast guy. A lot of 2 yard crossing patterns that gets the ball out of the quarterbacks hands quickly. I think you read up on the wrong guy. Regardless, none of us know what he will run HERE. I'm sure he has a specific plan already in place. We won't know what that will be until the season kicks off.

I'm excited for the Trestman era to begin. Hopefully this offense can finally be a top 10 offense for once and it will get us to the Superbowl. Also getting anybody associated with the Saints is a plus in my book. Both good hires!

Trestman and Emery have similar personalities. Unless Bevell or Arians nail their final interviews it's gotta be Trestman's job to lose.

I'm fine with any of them, but my personal preference is still to go with somebody young and innovative. Would have loved for it to have been McCoy, but Bevell would do. Either way, if it's Arians or Trestman, I'm fine with it. You have to give them a chance.
