Bears one of first teams to skip voluntary...

Featured Replies

So the Bears are one fo the first teams to have players vote to skip voluntary workouts.

Tell me Nagy has this locker room, and these guys will give it all to win.

This team is past its expiration date.

The whole NFL is probably going to do it.

yeah but our guys were one of the first. they werent worried about how it might look, or who might be mad.

"I dunno, if we make coach Nagy mad he might take away our disco dance parties."

I hope our next coach is a SOB.

Good Grief. I read a few days ago three teams opted out. I think Denver was one of them. Can't remember the other two. Now I read a total of nine teams have decided to opt out. There will be many more. If you don't like Nagy, fine. There are plenty of reasons one might think he should be replaced. However, IMO, this shouldn't be one of those reasons. (Personally, I think he deserves one more chance to right the ship.)

This 100%. This isn't about the locker room. Most teams are going to opt out which I have no issues with.

If the Bears don't make the playoffs this year, Pace and Nagy will be gone. It's as simple as that.

like it or not.  There is a battle going on between the NFL and the NFLPA.  They both are positioning for future years after covid.  Almost all players should be able to get shots sooner than later so I don't believe that is the only reason.  I think they want to eliminate the whole OTA schedule going forward.   And as far as Pace is concerned he is here for at least a year and I believe more no matter what.

This is a direct shot at the 17-game schedule (with a cap decrease). I know the NFLPA agreed to the terms, but this is a way to "recoup" some of that money.

I agree that this is between the NFLPA and the NFL first and foremost. Then again, tell me a Bill Parcells coached team would be one of the first to declare...

It's really much of nothing.  Once covid19 is gone, things will go back to normal.

I dont think it makes any kind of statement about Nagy,  the only narrative you here is he is well liked by his players.  I think it's just the union rep pushing the policy and the writing is on the wall. They will all end up doing it.

It doesnt sound like a team looking for every edge to win to save their coaches job.

Seems to me, from this quote from ChicagoBears.com, that the claim that the Bear Players show a lack of motivation to succeed is completely false.

Quote

Good attendance: Pace is pleased with how many Bears players have been participating in Phase 1 of the voluntary offseason program since it kicked off April 19. In Phase 1, all meetings are virtual but a limited number of players can work out in the weight room and individually on the field—but without footballs or coaches.

"We've had really good attendance with that," Pace said. "I think it's a credit to our players and their passion and our staff as we work through that. Right now, it's voluntary and we've got a good amount of guys coming up here and lifting right now and taking advantage of the facilities that we have. It's safe up here with a lot of the COVID restrictions, so that part has been good.

"In regards to when they'll be here, right now our plan is Phase 2 will start May 17 for us. That's when we'll start our in-person activities and that is when we expect the guys to be here, and it will be good to see everybody in-person."

Pace anticipates a strong turnout when Phase 2 of the voluntary program begins May 17. In Phase 2, all meetings will remain virtual but players can participate in individual drills on the field for the first time.

"As we approach that May 17 date, I expect it to be good," Pace said. "With just the feeling I have with our guys and the excitement of this offseason and the upcoming season, I feel it. I feel it from our leadership. I feel it throughout our team. I can already tell from the guys who are coming in now and just the energy and the momentum that I feel from that group.

"I expect it to carry right into May 17 when they can be here at Halas. And I think with us having the facility that we have, and you've seen it, we're lucky to have the resources that we have. And I think our players are excited to take advantage of that."

Pace was asked whether he expects 90-100 percent participation like a normal offseason.

"That's what our hope is," Pace said. "We'll see. It's such a unique time. But we're optimistic that a lot of the guys … We have a really close group and a really close locker room. I think they enjoy being together. I think they enjoy the competition. And there are tweaks too. With Sean Desai as the [new] defensive coordinator, I think it's important for us to all be together and continue to grow as a team, especially with our new additions."

OK, so its good to see the team wants to attend, and that portends well.

Of course it cant be both ways, if attending means they are a team, then not attending would have meant that they were less of one.
