Year 2 QB QBR Tracker

In their last 8 starts each, Nix and Maye are 8-0, and Williams is 7-1. So combined those 3 are 23-1 in their last 24 starts. Has there ever been a trio of QBs from the same class do that ever?

What matters most is that the Vikings got McCarthy

He won't last long. They will give him this year to fail and I would expect them to draft another one or sign a proven vet if he does not improve (which he won't).

If anyone watched any Michigan games, he handed the ball off 80% of the time, and was only asked not to make mistakes, but because he was a good kid and the ultimate hype man, MIN bought into the "winner mentality".

I also think the league got over their skis on KOC. Solid coach, etc, but a little overrated. Not hard to beat teams when you have a Flores defense holding team to under 20 pts and giving you great field position.

It’s outside the thread topic but I checked out a couple Viking’s fan post game discussions on YouTube.  That loss hit them like a hard kick to the Skol sack.  The fan base is definitely out on McCarthy right now.

I am sure their fanbase is split, some will want to give him more time. Others are probably done with him.

He did nothing in college to warrant being a first rounder. Williams, Daniels, and Nix all had the pedigrees. Maye had a shorter period of success but that plus his stature made him at least enticing. Everyone knew Penix wouldn't last with 50-year-old knees.

Winning a national championship, having a 27-1 record as a starter and setting records while in Michigan (same school  Brady and Harbaugh went to) doesn't get your name at least mentioned? Harbaugh (although biased) seemed to think he was.

That was ALL he did though, he was on the winning team. Just like Stetson Bennett, Georgia was 29-1 the last two years, and he actually threw for 4K passing yards.

The biggest red flag on McCarthy was his inexperience. That reminded me of Trey Lance. There are so few QBs that work out when they have limited college experience. McCarthy can still improve but I don't know if he will even get to a Mac Jones level.

Bears Receivers have been hit with the drop bug, I believe they have 17 drops now. If half of those were caught, that would bump Caleb's Comp% to 62%, much closer to his 2024 number, but with an ADOT over 0.5 yards farther.

Caleb's 2nd lowest QBR game of the season, only the NO game was worse.

He now needs to average 239 yards passing per game for the last 7 to hit 4K.

Yeah, his arm got bent backwards like Gumby unfortunately. Arms should not bend that way. Hopefully WAS can protect him better and he learns how to slide without using his arm to brace him.

I knew what you meant.  I’m just disappointed in myself for not coming up with that one.

Oh lol, yeah. Injury was always going to be an issue with Daniels, and now had upper and lower body injuries. Penix also looks to be out for the year with his 17th knee injury.

Williams had the highest QBR among the 2nd Year QBs this week.

Williams now 10th in Passing Yards, ahead of Jordan Love, Bo Nix, Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts, all with the same number of games.

Stafford (MVP) and Hurts are the only QBs with more Passing TDs and fewer INTs than Williams.

EPA/DB is 13th

26 QBs have been sacked more times

Some context to Year 2 QBs, McCarthy starting in his 2nd year, who sat for a year, taking over a 14-win team with arguably a top 3 WR in Jefferson, a great defense, and a QB Whisperer HC is one of 3 QBs since 1980 to pass for less than 1K yards, less than 10 TD Passes, and 10 or more INTs in their first 6 starts to start their careers. He joins DeShone Kizer and Ryan Leaf in that category.

Williams is the first QB in NFL history with more than 6K Passing Yards, 750 Rushing Yards, 35 Passing TDs, and 10 or fewer INTs in his first 28 starts, and that includes 17 games in a season where his HC and OC were fired.

Wow.  Time to buy a jersey!  For the record my Jersey collection:  Sayers, Ditka, Urlacher, Butkus.

Basically every game he hits another milestone that no one has ever done.

Like to end the season with 7K Passing, 1K Rushing, 40 Passing TDs, with fewer than 15 INTs would be another milestone that only he has ever achieved in the first two seasons of a career.

Between his errant throws and our WR drops, how many yards and TDs were left on the table? My Guess? He could easily have another 6 TDs and 300 yards added to his totals this year.

I have a friend that spent 10,000 on Justin Fields collectable stuff based on he will one day be a top 5 QB. Boy did he guess wrong. It was after the year when he run for 1143 yards. Cant imagine what all that is worth now. He did have some nice stuff, my investment was a JF1 shirt.

The incompletions can be a result of:

1. Bad throw/accuracy/timing
2. Receiver bad route/timing
3. Receiver drops pass
4. Defense caused - QB is escaping pressure/great PBU
5. Throw away (forced incompletion)

In some cases, I feel like they are trading incompletions for INTs and sacks right now, so I will take that. However, we want to start to see an uptick in Comp% over the remainder of the season.

McCarthy is putting up a historically bad season. Bottom 5 QBR Season since they started tracking it in 2006. He just passed Will Levis for 5th worst, next up Josh Rosen.

2025
JJ McCarthy - 24.8

2024
Will Levis - 25.2

2018
Josh Rosen - 24.1

2011
Blaine Gabbert - 22.2

2010
Jimmy Clausen - 13.8

2006
Andrew Walter - 23.0
