This is Ben Johnson’s team

That title isn’t meant to be snarky. While we’re all thinking, or at least I was thinking, we need to build a balanced roster. You know as in Caleb is good enough to overcome some deficiencies among the offense. Nope. Today made it clear Ben is determined to build an unstoppable offense with a full suite of weapons around Caleb. So it’s not going to be good offense and good defense. It’ll be great offense and good-enough defense. That’s the way the Colts ran all those years with Peyton Manning. KC did the same with Andy Reed for a few years and then just added in Mahomes.

Never having seen a great offense in Chicago I don’t know how to feel about the effort to do this. I do like the three offensive players we drafted although the WR seemed like we could have drafted in the 4th. Being a Bears fan my focus has always been defense.

I been making jokes here or on social media that they need to lock BJ in a closet. I have also mentioned they need to build around the QB and today they showed that. The good thing is I have 2-3 DTs i wanted and about 2 DEs that I would have taken in earlier rounds in mocks. If the Bears get those players, genius. If not, then maybe having two heads at the top is to many. With those players still available, I or none of us know true value.

Totally agree. The scouting dept brings the players and then Ben and Ryan sort out their needs and create a board. They are sticking to their board, not fan and pundit perception of values of players. I was disappointed last year after the draft and boom, best draft in a very long time and its not done paying dividends. Clearly BJ states what he wants, this draft as well as last year, push for a dominating offense. They attribute a bad defense last year to injuries and not all players fit DAs scheme.

I think they may have drafted Jacas but he went two picks before 57 and then would have drafted Jones with 60. It didnt work out. Drafted Jones and moved back for the next guy on their board. This is not over and we have to see how it turns out. Then UDFAs and a second wave of free agents. If they dont get who they wanted, then you may see Cam Jordan, DJ Reader, several options still available. That is the point you see these type of players signed after they didnt fill their needs in the draft.

Went back and looked at last years comments and very similar to this year. Questioned picks, needs and where we drafted them. I did see where everyone like the Shemar Turner pick. He will be like getting another pick this year at a position of need. He will contribute this year. Hyppolite was question but stated as a developmental player. We get to see what he does this year. Same with Frazier, he could be this years DuShon Wright and surprise everyone. He has the traits. We need to look at the roster entering training camp not on day 3 of the draft.

This draft isnt going to be received well because of the last of prospects on the DL but I think it overall upgrades the roster.

Theineman with Bryant are definite upgrade over the two starters last year.

By reading the profiles Muhammad and Elliott could be eventual starters that have speed.

Roush , Thomas, Jones all add to the offense .

I wonder what the combined RAS is for this draft. Seems like all the guys selected were top of the chart. Last year there was some grumblings and the Bears were rated the best draft in the league. Lots of questions over Loveland, but once the training wheels were removed the guy took over games and now looked at as an all-pro talent.

The defense ranked 1st in take aways, with the improved back 7, can they repeat? The D interior added speed with Galimore, Lynch, and Street to go Jarrett and Dexter. Drafting Van den Berg adds to that.

I thought Sheman Turner was a 3T, but looks more like DE with the moves at the interior. He'll join Sweat, Dayo, Booker, and Hardy. We have bodies on the dline, not the blue chips we hoped for, but we can look at Thieneman and Faulks career to see if the right choice was made.

Overall, the Bears added elite athletes that love football.

Basically the most athletic class for this year.

I had a feeling they had to be one of the top ranked teams. Hope it turns out on Sundays.

I like what they did on 3rd day - took swings on guys that could turn into legit starters. They may not and some might be projects but you take enough swings like that and it will pay off.

Last years draft was a great success and still can pay more dividends with Frazier and Hyppolite. Until it proves differently this class looks like it added to the roster.

I hope I am wrong, but this draft felt too cute. Too much I am smarter than everyone else vibes. I could be wrong, but it just feels that way. A lot of the players were mocked to the Bears, but almost all were a round or even two rounds later. What that means is you are only getting 1-2 starters out of this group when you really need 3-4, especially when you had an extra 2nd rounder.

DJ Moore was basically traded for Sam Roush.

Look at the list of the top 25 fastest WRs in the NFL, the list is basically 90% garbage, like 2-3 guys actually became decent, but for the most part, none of them could actually do their primary job, run routes and catch balls, they could just run the 40 really fast in shorts.

I would rather have tangible production and experience. QB is the same way. Traits guys are cool, but rarely do guys with very low volume ever amount to anything in the NFL.

I know the team has to use some metric to evaluate, but when it is strictly athleticism, that doesn't always translate.

I agree 100%. It was the only pick I’m still pretty unsure about. I’m sure they have a plan, but I would rather a more well rounded receiver than what seem like a speed/gadget/return guy. Skyler Bell or Bryce Lance seemed like better picks at WR with some return ability over Thomas. But I guess we’ll see.

Sam Roush at 6'7 270# will be playing a big role helping the LT. I've seen experts say that they had him in the 2nd. Now WR Thomas, I thought was a round early but who knows, Witgen who the Steelers drafted round 4 is a similiar player that I was taking round 7. Thomas has more juice and maybe the Bears have Hester 2.0 We watched those DT/DEs go later than we took them in simulators, so I feel the league told us how they feel about their readiness to see playing time this season. The Bears roster is pretty full on the dline, so they are going with those guys and will emphasize better coaching to get what they need. The Bears selections fit their needs, not ours. Believe me, I wanted a DE and DT. The kid we took in the 6th basically outperformed Woods who went in the first and you know he will be a full effort player.
