Very disappointing regarding Kyler. He’s been hurt all offseason after being hurt all season. Not saying it is his fault - but availability is key and he just isn’t.

Kyler really didnt want to play football. It was out there somewhere. He is going to milk any injury and collect the last dollar until its figured out.

Too Bad. He's good but you just cant count on him.

And with JJ needing a big payday soon (and not deserving it) and Stevenson being a wild card, it's no wonder we drafted Muhammad. And we will draft another CB next year.

I hope they are being careful but like you said, its been a problem ever since he got paid.

I have to believe Ben Johnson is fuming over Kyler's soft tissue vacation. BJ likes players who are dedicated, with a balls-to-the-wall attitude. Kyler reported to camp last year with soft tissue issues. He was basically lost for the season, and now, 6 months after last season ended for the Bears, he still has soft tissue problems? I never heard of soft tissue issues taking a year to rehab, unless the soft tissue they are talking about is Kyler's brain.

I guess it is because he ended the season on IR and once he reports to camp, the Bears doctors have to clear him. He could be on the practice field Tuesday if given the green light. We will find out soon.

100%

I read a couple places that all summer hes been a regular at the clubs, staying out late, maybe even doing coke. These are rumors not reports, but if it's true, then he is gone after this year, maybe sooner.

You cant really afford to cut him for a while, it'd cost an extra $9.6M against this years cap, or cut him early next year where his $15M dead money would only bring $800k in cap savings. BUT if you trade him this year, right now, you clear up $10.4M this year! If you trade him next year before june 1st, you clear up $8.3M of cap space.

If we could find someone to take him now, we'd eat the guaranteed money, he'd play for them for $10.4M, $10.8M and $10.8M the next three seasons (2026, 2027, 2028)

Maybe someone wants him?

If you are talking about Kyler he played the final two games. If it is Edward’s he practiced with club earlier but had some minor injury I guess come up.

But Ayo who ruptured his Achilles is not on the pup list which is a good sign.

You are correct, I forgot he came back for playoffs. He didnt or couldnt participate in OTA and mini camps, so he needs to pass the physical. After the Bears doctors evaluate him at camp, he could be removed.

I think it’s Cam Lewis we’ll see at NB. He’s a good player, versatile, just not special. I believe they’ll leave Muhammed outside to push Stevenson, and that’s his more natural fit anyway. Trying to fit a rookie into two positions is not ideal, but sometimes luck is on your side. I think early on they’ll also leave Thieneman at safety to learn those roles. However, last year at Oregon he proved he can play at NB and that might be an option later in the season. Coby Bryant can do a little of that too. I’m not totally enamored with our depth at Safety but if Allen feels confident enough in someone like Hicks, I could see scenarios with Gordon injured where he puts 3 safeties on the field as opposed to the traditional NB. That might cause some confusion in a QB’s reads depending how players shift at the snap. If they start tinkering with the DBs later in camp that might be a little something to watch. Or if we pick up a DB after cuts.

cool - I dont know anything about him, Id forgotten him honestly. I agree that Muhammad is there to replace Stevenson, but i thought it Gordon was injured, he might play there. But Cam Lewis. Cool. Im here for it.

I'm thinking, if we know they know. If rumors are true, cut his ass, with contract violation. Let the courts play it out. At least, you've sent a message to an ascending team. Hopefully, none of it is true...

yeah, like i said its rumors not reports. I surely dont KNOW anything. But capwise we cant afford to cut him right now, but we could absolutely trade him.

If we sued etc, we might be able to recover some money from the player (unlikely) but to get cap relief, I dunno if thats possible.

It still feels like they will bring in a vet at Edge if they don't like what they see in the next few weeks.

I know its a longshot, but Vita Vae would elevate this defense immediately. Maybe we can trade Kyler Gordon for him :)

Yes he’d make us better but I don’t want another old over-paid DT on the roster. Poles needs to hold off and let things play out before deciding what player or position to add. If they really want a NT they can always find one in the draft. They do not go early.

well the others are off the books next year, and Vae is a true stud? Hes probably the best DT in the league?

Vea is better than anyone we have but 3 things stand out for me. DA is moving to a quicker DL, Vea does 5.1 which is great for a man that size but adding a slow DT that is going to cost 25+mil a year doesnt seem to be the direction we are going in. He is also 31 years old. Not sure that is idea for a younger team. As AZ said, we tried adding a vet for good money in Jarrett and that wasnt a success. None of this seems like a good idea for me. At 31 , you may get him for a 3rd round (maybe) but if he is good as everyone thinks, 2nd is more likely.;

The Bucs are reportedly wanting a 2nd rounder for Vea.

its a little steep given his age, but someone will probably pat it because he is such a game changer. Also, maybe we can trade a player to lessen the cost. I'd trade anyone on the DL except for Booker or Sweat, and Id trade Kyler Gordon if possible.

I dont know what kind of money he wants for his new contract, that would probably be the deciding factor for me if he was available to us.

Spotrac says $31.5M /year - hes probably worth that.

Id love to see him on our team, i think adding him would make us instant Super Bowl contenders. We might already be that now, but with Vae, we'd finally have that pass rush (and run stopping!) that we've been lacking.

I guess it comes down to what kind of player you think he will be in 3 years. If you think he will stay at his level of production, then it's worth doing, if you think he will drop off, then not. And that decision is above my pay grade. I can see what a disruptor he is now on film, but I dont have an opinion on how long he will maintain that level of play.

JULY 29: Vea is holding in at camp, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports, though head coach Todd Bowles said the lineman tweaked his back during a running test on Tuesday (via Greg Auman of Fox Sports). Bowles added that the Bucs have not had any talk of trading Vea.
